Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Time to get rid of Porterfield! Walking wicket for Mujeeb. Hasn't a clue how to play him despite playing him god knows how many times. That must be 10/12 times he's got him. Ave of 19 in 22 games against Afghanistan. Terrible from an opener. Just hasn't a clue against spin!

Singh a 4 is an absolute joke.

Selectors and coaches should all be sacked. No improvement in the batting despite playing Afghanistan 8/9 times a year. Every time a spinner comes on it's rabbits in headlights. Surely if the coaches were worth theor pay they'd be able to coach some sort of technique to help?

The wrong team is constantly selected. Why was McCarthy dropped? Afghanistan play spin very well, why play FOUR spinners! Especially as none are exactly wicket takers

At 90/5 the game was there but couldn't buy a wicket and then as per usual smashed about at the death. Again do the coaches actually coach death bowling?

This team has turned into a complete mess.

Time to start digging for Granny rule passport players.

Personally, I think some of that’s a bit harsh. Afghanistan has 3 players in the top 15 ODI bowling rankings at the moment. India are the only other team to have 3.

Yes, we would like better performances but these guys are no easy prey. The test match will be interesting but in T20 and ODI, this is tough opposition. They’ve an excellent coach and a not so bad fielding coach!

New blood is getting into the squad and getting match time. That’s an improvement on a couple of years ago.

Balbirnie and Dockrell with a useful partnership here of 65 so far

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,234 ✭✭✭VillaMad

Balbirnie and Dockrell playing very well at the moment, keeping Ireland very much in the game.

Big six from Balbirnie and Ireland now need 87 from 84 balls.

Rashid Khan is probably the key now as he still has five overs left and if Balbirne or Dockrell get out, it will be difficult for a new batsman to face him.

    Balbirnie ton

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,234 ✭✭✭VillaMad

Brilliant hundred from Balbirnie! He has anchored this innings and has been superb. Can he now continue it on?

65 needed off last ten overs

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,578 ✭✭✭✭KevIRL

    Dockrell 50 up with a 6

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,234 ✭✭✭VillaMad

Balbirnie almost caught in the deep but is dropped and then Dockrell hits a big six to bring up his 50!

    Ireland need 41 from 43.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,578 ✭✭✭✭KevIRL

14 runs off 43rd over. Run a ball needed now

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,578 ✭✭✭✭KevIRL

Dockrell given out last ball of the over

Dockrell caught in two minds as he came down the wicket and is stumped.

No need for that as Ireland were well on top and a big shot wasn't needed.

Oh George!! Don't be doing that.

    5 down

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,578 ✭✭✭✭KevIRL

    Poynter duck

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,234 ✭✭✭VillaMad

Poynter picks out a man on the deep and he could have gone on his previous two balls before that as well.

    Afghanistan back in it. 217-6.

Great to see a competitive tie today. Though another wicket down isn’t going to help! Time for a hero to step up.

Rashid Khan has 3 overs left - they'll probably decide the game.

Balbirnie showing the importance of picking specialist batsmen with this knock we are getting into dangerous territory if we are putting all rounders at 4.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,234 ✭✭✭VillaMad

    27 needed off 4 overs.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,234 ✭✭✭VillaMad

    Six from Balbirnie! Great shot.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 924 ✭✭✭lambayire

    9 off 14 balls

No messing about from balbirnie with ones and twos. Just take it by the scruff and win it. Super knock.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,234 ✭✭✭VillaMad

Misfield gives Ireland a single and Ireland need just 8 from the last two overs.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 924 ✭✭✭lambayire

    And Balbirnie is dropped!!

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,234 ✭✭✭VillaMad

Another drop by Afghanistan. As simple a catch as you will get.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,234 ✭✭✭VillaMad

Lovely shot by Balbirnie for four. Scores level!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 924 ✭✭✭lambayire

    Level scores!

Tha's just brilliant by Balbirnie to win it.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,234 ✭✭✭VillaMad

    what a knock!

Well that must have been sensational. Had to go out for a while to return to a nice surprise. Fair dues to Balbirnie & Dockrell, they've stood up :)

  • Registered Users Posts: 729 ✭✭✭wicorthered

Wow what a performance from Balbirnie. Never as happy to be proved wrong. The skill set might be on the wane but the fight is still in the team.

If the selectors can get the team right this series is there for the taking!

    Stirling
    McCollum
    Balbirnie
    KOB
    Dockerell

    Poynter
    Tucker

    Singh
    McCarthy
    Murtagh
    Rankin

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,578 ✭✭✭✭KevIRL

Amazing stuff from balbirnie, credit also to dockrell who put in a fine supporting knock. Balbirnie had 8 ODI sixes before today, he doubled that total today.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,023 ✭✭✭✭Joe_ Public

I imagine that must rank up there with the very best batting displays in irish odi history? KOB out clear in front obviously.

Tim Murtagh got a bit expensive there at the end of Afg innings - was it 24 in two overs? Suppose he could have been deliberately serving up full tosses in the hope of a catch. Think I'd prefer tight accurate bowling and make the batsman work.

Murtagh hasnt the pace for the death overs. I'd bowl him out early. Our best bowler with the new ball.

Going well enough but no give away. Runs seem to be a little hard to come by. Weather looks cool and cloudy? Chance of rain? Afg could get to 200 handily enough.

Why is this the decider though Kev. Thought there was a 5th match on Sunday?
