Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Nope , still waiting

I usually get mine in the first batch but I haven't received this years one yet.
I'm hoping it comes soon as I have a sub gone in for a new rifle and I'm expecting a request for a copy of the licence from AGS

Received today, the young lads’ .22 hornet grant letter in the same delivery. The postman was a bit of a saint in our house today.

    Fron NPWS web page.
This really could do with a modernisation, this annual carry on is a joke.

    Deer Hunting Applications
Date Released: Friday, August 7, 2020

The Department has received a large volume of telephone calls in the last few days from applicants enquiring about their deer hunting applications. The NPWS are currently processing deer hunting applications and licences will issue to applicants in the coming weeks. There may be some delays in the issuing of licences given current working arrangements due to Covid-19 but the NPWS will endeavour to issue as many licences as possible prior to 1 September, the start of the deer hunting season. You can also email the Wildlife Licensing Unit at wildlifelicence@chg.gov.ie relating to your application. Your patience in this matter is appreciated.

So if the delays are past the September 1st date and you don't receive it what can you do? Wait patiently for it ? And what if it doesn't arrive like what then??
Pretty sure the signature or stamp of approval doesnt take 20 employees to do like

thanks for that. i was going to go phoning them in morning but now I've read your post i will wait until mid week before i ring them to find out where they are. One would think they could generate a email stating that they at leased received the application and were reviewing it. surely its not that hard to do that at leased .

Beats me why the heck this cant be done on a 3-year renewal basis with the onus on us to inform them of any changes in our shooting land status or circumstances?
At this stage is there really any necessity for them to know what rifle and ammo we are using? This is another holdover from the troubles apparently too.

Probably would involve changes in the process of applying based on having a lease which would expire every season currently

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 284 ✭✭kunekunesika

Fairly sure the legislation refers to an annual licence. Would require that to be changed. The same must have applied to the annual gun licences and they changed that?? Should be possible if anyone was bothered.

Got mine in the first batch for once. Normally near the third week before I got it in the past.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,064 ✭✭✭clivej

I wonder if getting your license has anything to do with the time you applies for it?
I'm always getting my license in the very first batch, within the first week.

But I'm sending in my application at the end of March, start of April. So I say I could be on the top of the pile early on.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 975 ✭✭✭mallards

Got mine through the post yesterday. Sent it first few days of April. As it was the height of the pandemic sent them the email I sent the previous year with a note that is no access to a printer to fill out the 2020 docs as we were all in lockdown and that I wouldn't be getting any of my permissions to resubmit their documents for me for the same reasons. Just told them nothing had changed since the year before and a call to my permissions would confirm that. Delighted that common sense prevailed and the department issued my licence. Great job by them.

    From the WADI FB page!
As usual NPWS = Utter goat rodeo!

    Hi Barry

We are processing deer hunting applications and licences are currently being issued to applicants. It is our intention to issue as many licences as possible before 1 September. However, there will some delays in the issuing of licences given current working arrangements due to Covid-19 and not all applicants who have submitted applications will receive their licences by 1 September.

I appreciate that your members are anxious to start hunting next month and we are doing everything possible to expedite the issuing of licences. I note your suggestion that applicants who have submitted applications but not received licences should receive a waiver until the end of September. Unfortunately, the provisions in the Wildlife Acts do not allow for the extension of deer hunting licences.

As you are probably aware we have published a notice on the NPWS website on this situation.

    Regards

    Gerry

Seriously people really need to get off asses as do our Deer and shooting organisations and demand a meeting with this minister to discuss this disaster of a dept she runs on numerous issues.
Issueing liscenses, deer poaching, the wood piegon ban ,are we doing that craic in 2021 again?Makey up law by NPWS on calibers and acerage.

I wrote several letters to the minister. I requested that the licences simply be reissued to all who had a licence last year.

Rang them yesterday.Temp closed is appropriate...Its transfered to the Dept of heritage,Gaeltacht and the islands...And things... At least the switchboard lady was as helpful as she could be on this, which was unfortunately not much, apart from them all working at home issuing the liscenses.

I was stopped once (hunting deer 10 years) and had go to my local station and get them to fax a copy of the licence to the station close to where I was stopped

At present or up until recently they were under the remit of the Minister for Media, Tourism, Arts, Culture, Sport and the Gaeltacht but during the summer I was talking to a chap in the licensing unit and he told me they were moving promises again, down to the Custom House.
It is now with or going to the Minister of State for Heritage Malcolm Noonan, a Green TD, and will be located in the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage with responsibility for the NPWS. (Jul 2, 2020)

    The Greens God help us....

By the way, two lads I know one in Meath and one in the Midlands received their licence today. Applied in June and May respectively.

Feral goats can be shot all year round, day or night.

Just be careful they're not somebody's pets.

Feral goats are not in the wildlife act and considered vermin and can be shot all year.

Apprently this is becoming more and more of a disaster.NPWS are issueing liscenses to those who applied late..FIRST!!!
Seems to be the only dept in the country that also cant extend any dates on their paperwork either.Strange that more important lics like drivers lics and NCTs and all the rest can be extended but not deer lics!
Our deer hunting orgs seem to be powerless or engaged in "diplomatic behind the scenes work"according to the WADI secetary in a FB response toa a critique post of this matter.:rolleyes:
And they hope to get all lics issued by the end of October...Thanks to their incompetence we lose 2 months of prime shooting, including the rut..

Seriously folks, this is now gone beyond a joke.Think it would now be in order that we start lobbying our reps that this dept is investigated and got shook up and cleaned up?

They should just extend the current licenses for 2 months if that's the case. Sent off a renewal for friend Wednesday got a reply back the following morning stating it will processed and sent out in due course.

Quick question. Of you had a deer licence last year and applied this year and nothing changed. Could you still go out tomorrow as the renewal is just late. And will be back dated to the 1st of September anyway?? As you will be covered you just dont have the licence in your possession yet

Unfortunately no as the current deer license is out if date and all new issued deer licenses are valid from tomorrow until 31 August next year...

Yea but new ones being issued valid from tomorrow and anyone thst had 1 last year and applied will be getting it again if none of their circumstances changed and licence will be back dated so what would be long with them going out

If you have no licence for the 2020-2021 season in writing
    You are not licensed
    Its very simple
    No licence= No shooty :pac::pac::pac::pac::pac::pac:

I saw this same question asked on a FB group which i promptly left after, the sheer levels of stupidity in some advice given was atrocious:pac:

And probably no shooty for the majority of us until about Halloween if the truth in the rumours are to be believed.:mad:
BUT apparently they can drag all the NPWS rangers out from wherever they are hiding for most of the year to start patrolling tomorrow too,to catch anyone without a license!!
Be better chaining them to desks and getting on with our lscenses being issued.

Seriously lads ,would anyone be on to petition a TD or ten and getting a online petition going to [1] extend the 2019 liscenses untill the 2020 are issued, and [2] A total review of this dept of the Envioroment ,etc, etc.
This has been an utter joke this year, and if things like NCTs,DOEs ,drivers licenses etc,can be extended at the ministerial pen, which by far are more critical documents.WTF cant the same be done for deer liscenses until say Nov 30th??

I'm not shy of giving the NPWS a verbal slapping, but when it's due. In this case i'd say not so. In essence they have been shut for over 4 months the same as everywhere else, and if i'm not mistaken are still closed so its actually nearly/over 5 months.

Granted if the "backwards" issuing of license is true it's a balls up, but they're working to get the licenses out and a little patience. By patience i mean i see lads saying how they've rang 5, 7, 10 times asking about their license(s). Do you not think things may go a little faster if people stop panicking and just wait o the license. I mean the umpteen calls won't make it be processed any faster.

Also don't fall for the crap about lads sending in their applications last week and getting their license this week. It's trolling or simply messing to get a rise and for the most part works.

No, and why would it. You cannot shoot until you get the license so it only needs to have the date of issue on it, not be back dated.
As you will be covered you just dont have the licence in your possession yet
You're NOT covered without a license. Like collecting a new gun with a grant letter and proof of payment. Legally and technically you have no license so you should not be able to collect your gun until the license arrives.
    Hunter456 wrote:

Small point but i've seen it elsewhere. Its NOT 31st August. Its the 31st July.

The license run from the date of issue until the 31st July the following year. It's right there on your license. I don't know why people think their license is valid until the end of August the following year. Perhaps it's because that is the day before the new season, but it's a falsehood.

In essence we have all been unlicensed since July 31st. I got my License on August 6th so i spent 6 days without a license.

I'm fairly certain that that is not true, between one thing and another I was a bit pre occupied with other stuff to even consider the deadline for sending in my application and it was only a pure fluke that I met a friend of mine while out fishing who reminded me that I had to apply that same day for my licence which I did, I also enclosed a note apologising for my very late application.

I have heard nothing back yet so it's going to be goat curry for me and mine until I get some news.

As far as I am aware letters have been sent to our now minister who is over the npws looking for them To extend last years licences. The reply was it is top priority for him and he will get his department onto it. I know the npws have said they can't extend the old licences so I'm hoping the minister will act soon.

    Our shooting orgs...
According to one FB spat where the Sec of WADI took umbrage at one poster who stated pretty much the sae as here that it seems our orgs arent doing very much, and pretty much overplayed his hand in protesting too much ,claims that "They are working behind the scenes and making diplomatic moves to solve this" I dont know about you,but when that crowd say they are working behind the scenes...I get worried!

These are extraordinary time, and it takes some extrodinary thinking and speaking up to sort this out.A ministerial sig isnt that hard to do and AFAICS possible under the acts as well.
