Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    5 wickets in 4.2 overs for the addition of 15 runs. That's turned this match round big time - SL may not see out their overs, and are perhaps showing why they are the second lowest ranked ODI team in the tournament, with only Afghanistan below them

    Real chance for Afghanistan to make their mark now

    Off for rain, and, looking at the weathermap, it could be a lengthy delay. But a Duckworth-Lewis target would suit the Afghans very nicely methinks.

    Aye Afg could be stiffed of the points if they don't get back on. 17:51 is the key time.
    Hello again, it's still hammering it down in Cardiff but there are a hardy band of supporters still at the stadium who seem to be enjoying themselves, despite the elements. Huddling together for shelter, they are taking in the music being played on the PA system and remain hopeful.

    The position is that play has to resume by 17:51 BST or the match will be abandoned and it will be one point each. Now the Cardiff groundstaff are used to mopping up the rain, it has to be said, so if it does stop raining their expertise will be invaluable.

    Making a little work of it now - 2 down for 43 but only 4ish needed an over, assuming rain keeps off. Assume they wanted to score heavily and quickly as possible in case game has to be stopped.

    Watched part of it on Sky. The outfield was saturated and the Sri Lankan fielders were sliding all over the place. I'm very surprised that the umpires deemed it playable, but such is the power of the television channels that the unfortunate players are merely pawns on the financial chessboard.

    Well done to Sri Lanka, I couldn't see them winning that one.

    Yeah, the Afghan batsmen up the order let it slip - got off to a good start and instead then of knuckling down to 4 an over with singles, twos and the odd boundary, they went awol.

    3 defeats and its close to curtains for SA, its possible a few teams will tie on 3 defeats, and RRR will decide, but not a position they want to be in playing NZ and WI in 2 of their next 3 games!

    South Africa's last hope now really is Miller. He has to go big to give them something to bowl at.

    Looks like quiet a lean period now in South African cricket with them not looking like having anywhere near the talent to replace the likes of De Villiers, Steyn (who is as good as retired now) and Morkel. Even Graeme Smith has never been replaced and Amla is on his last legs as an international player and looks a shadow of his former self.

    Interesting tussle between SA & India, great to see a legspinner taking wickets like that. Will SA get 200 and can they make similar inroads into India? The match will hardly go the 50 overs each one way or the other.

    It's a terrible format because the tournament takes too long to get through it won't be finished until July 14th which is insane.

    It's basically the international cricket league rather than a world cup style tournament , people will be fed up of the games well before it gets to the end and the fact that all the teams bar Afghanistan are playing each other constantly takes away any kind of real intrigue to most of the matches.The structure also allows for too much margain for error, Englands loss the other day will probably have no impact on their chances of winning the tournnament.It's a disgrace that more of smaller nations were not included as in previous editions one of the intriguing aspects was how would some smaller nations perform and would they have any real star performers, there's almost none of that with this tournament.

    Of course I am sure the tournament structure is like this purely for generation of revenue and thats all that sports bodies care about anymore.

    Yep.

    Leading sportsmen (and women) want huge salaries and the only way that can be funded is by taking the TV dollar. Take the TV dollar and you've gotta dance to the TV company's tune. That's probably why the Sri Lankans had to field in pretty poor conditions last evening.


    As an aside this is from the Guardian'd report on yesterday's game in Cardiff
    "Given the drama this nerve-jangling contest offered up it was a shame so few people were present to witness it.

    The official attendance was fewer than 5,000 in a ground that holds 15,200.

    More disappointing is the fact 8,500 tickets were sold and 3,000 given away to local schools but the vast majority, presumably put off by dire weather forecasts, failed to turn up."

    It's not on free to air TV and many people aren't willing to pay the very high prices required for tickets to the 'bigger' games. But I bet it will still be described as a success after it's all over.

    SAF looked a washed out side, batting, bowling and fielding, apart from the 2 opening bowlers. Bowled well but luck wasn’t on their side today. India should have wrapped it much sooner, but on the other hand showed good restraint to finish it off without much stutters. Pitch was bowler friendly - good bounce and movement off the pitch for both sides, not the batsman paradise which usually is the case. Hopefully this will throw up some good contests.

    Hopefully the West Indies and Australia can serve up another close one at Trent Bridge tomorrow, particularly as I'm on the first flight to East Midlands in the morning!

    Some fairly savage bowling from WI. Cost a few extras but only Carey & Smith have been able to cope with it

    Although the weather has been pretty good a couple of raindrops makes me wonder if we'll see any rain disruption later
