New Zealand complete victory in 16.1 overs.

I'd expect a few low scores early on in the tournament with some fresh green pitches, especially with early morning starts, giving the bowling side a huge advantage.

Afg under the cosh now alright, down 5 for 70+ and a long way to go.

Zampa hit for 22 in the 29th over

Seems to be a lot of short pacy bodyline type bouncer bowling so far in this tournament. A good few batsmen caught off balls rising steeply into them. Will the umpires come down on it I wonder? Any views?

Another wee twist, that was a great partnership, pity it ended. Can Afg get 200+ - be great if they can and then make the Aussies work.

40 off two overs. Don't you love it when the underdogs just show complete disrespect! :)

Well that has slipped steadily away from AFG. They gave a reasonable account of themselves, don't think we would have done any better and quite possibly worse.

Still be interested to see if anything comes of the arguably excessive use of bouncers directed at batsmen heads by the winning teams so far. Seems to be a clear tactic; short, fast and rearing off the pitch. Maybe one of those an over is reasonable but there seems to have been several overs where 2 or even 3 were fired in. Was it Amla yesterday who took one straight in the face guard and went off to check for concussion. And regular wickets being taken from them.

See that SA have won the toss this morning and unsurprisingly have opted to bowl. Expect the Bangladeshians to be ducking & weaving, in between trying to hook..

Bangladesh going brilliantly, look likely to set their highest ever ODI total, previous best was 329-6 against Pakistan.

    Bangladesh finish on 330.

Oh well, give me an easy life and a peaceful death.

Cracking effort by the Bangladeshi lads, that. 51 off their last 4 overs. The Proteas will do well to chase that total down.

good match this, SA need 103 off 11 overs.

    just gone 228/5

    they've done it!

fair play to bangladesh, and SA are struggling now.

At least we got a bit of a contest today.

    Impressive enough from Bangladesh.

Not sure how many wins you will need to make the semi finals... 6 I'd think, maybe 5 at a real push. Either way SA have little room to left to manoeuvre. I think Australia, India, NZ and WI would expect to beat them.

Was out all day and just dropped in now & then to check the score. Great win for Bangladesh - pleased for them.

Is it Pakistan playing Eng tomorrow? Will be rooting for the Pakies!! :)

True but I doubt they'll care much as long as people are cheering them on :)

See England are bowling first and again likely looking to bounce them out. Let's hope the Pakistanis can deal with it like Bangladesh. How much will the umpires allow.

Anywhere else on this site and you would in all likelihood get a card for using that term. Please do not do so again

In separate news, England have a savage batting line up, and a pretty good bowling attack. However it may be their fielding that makes the difference in this tournament. After a stunning Stokes catch, Woakes just took another spectacular catch in the outfield - Pakistan now 119-2 after 21

...and I well and truly jinxed Jason Roy there!

Pakistan heading for a decent score at this rate.

Anyone here going to any of the semis / finals?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,691 ✭✭✭s3rtvdbwfj81ch

    348 for Pakistan

England could be in a bit of trouble here.

Actually there's no "could be" about it, it would be the record WC run chase if they do it.

    Well done!

Always nice to see Roy being jinxed, he's such an ugly batsman to watch, unless he's in absolutely top nick, which occurs rarely enough. So saying, he'll probably bludgeon his way to an ugly 70 from 40 balls today!

(PS I know you were referring to his poor fielding rather than to his batting.)

Playing on the same strip on which England scored a record 481/6 against the Aussies last summer!

Good effort by Pakistan :) They might be slightly disappointed they couldn't put up a few more in the last 10 but still the pressure will now be on the English bats, can they take it or will they crumble at home? Funny how things reversed a bit today and it was spin that took the first 3 wickets, but sure there was 200 up by then.

    12/1 early on

Big drop of Root in the slips. It came hard but they have to be taken.

Any good reason (or even a bad reason) why lots of teams (SAF, ENG, PAK) will have played 2 games before India have even started?

With 10 teams the obvious structure would be blocks of 5 games with everyone playing once in each block.

TV, sponsors, festivals back in India??? That's where the money is, AFAIK. So likely some financial reason :)

96/3 now - this is going to get interesting! Either Eng will stage a solid innings (up reasonably with run rate) or they'll implode :)
