    Ms

I had it a couple if weeks to a month ago. Apart from a mild headache, runny nose, a few odd pains here and there, a sore chest and cough it was not that bad. Have been worse. All good now :) .

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

  • Is this normal for COVID?

Started out as a “head cold” and I thought I was feeling way better yesterday and that was it but now I feel like my sinuses are burning, the inside of my mouth at the back is kinda like wrinkly, rough which is bizarre and I’ve a cough as well and a bit of chest tightness beginning.

Previous runs in with it, it just followed a pattern of getting a bit worse peaking and getting better. I didn’t have this getting better and then worse thing…

I’ll have to crack out the Neurofen again.

  • Well, it cleared and tested negative but still keep falling asleep and am going around in a bit or of a daze and feeling like a total dumbass.

I have what could only be described as like a mild ‘sensation’ across my chest, but it’s not bad more like a tickle or itch and I’m just falling asleep a lot and getting a bit stupid before I do - was calling someone the wrong name earlier and making some really bad typos in emails. Couldn’t seem to remember pins and passwords…

Also my legs feel kinda weak and have a sort of ‘electric’ feeling in them and I was a bit wobbly to one side.

I assume it’s just me getting over it though. The antigen tests came back totally clear, so at least it’s gone.

Tested positive 9 days ago - still positive today first time to get it. Is there any advice on when to return to exercise. Headache and temp for a few days but not too back since - intermittent phglem since.

Once symptoms are gone you can go back to normal I wouldn't even bother testing again.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,542 ✭✭✭yagan

I reckon I had it last weekend. Sore throat Friday that gave way to spluttering, sneezing and a nose drip that was constant for 24 hrs and then over a couple of days it cleared up. Lots of phlegm in the clearout. No headaches like I had with covid last year.

This dose seemed just contained to my sinus area, no cough.

@riddles They don't advise pushing through . Just be guided by fatigue . Rest more in between excercise .

Covid is as much an inflammatory condition as respiratory .

I managed to dodge the covid bullet until a little over a month ago. I was feverish, fatigued, some breathing difficulty. But it felt manageable and symptoms started to ease. That was until 8 days after my initial positive test. I woke up with a deep ache in my lower back, a stinging/scalding sensation on the surface of the skin in the same site, but a numbness to the site with touch. I was very confused, I even wondered if I had falling down the stairs while sleep walking. Later that evening I became feverish and lethargic again and with other symptoms such as running nose of covid came back but multiplied.

It turned out that I had developed shingles during covid. I was prescribed anti-inflammatories, decongestants, and anti-virals. I became very lethargic. I was even experiencing shortness of breath while resting, but it never got to the stage were I couldn't breath and needed an ambulance (but the thought worried me). I found it very difficult to wash and even feed myself during that first week. The pain and shortness of breath eased over time. But it is, and continues to be, a gradual process. I am still feeling fatigued, shortness of breath on exertion, a dry cough and runny nose, and left with lingering pain from the shingles site with a condition called postherpetic neuralgia.

I remain positive. Things seem to be gradually improving with some days of set back, but overall heading in the right direction

  • I’ve never tested positive before or had symptoms that would correlate to Covid before. It’s decases din e I had influenza as I always get flu vax, also up to date with Covid booster as I have MS. All recent respiratory tract infections were bacterial and responded readily to antibiotics, so it’s an awfully long time since I’ve had this kind of thing.

Last night started shivering, bone pain, temp 102.4, ferocious headache, this seemed to be a little more than a cold.

I started feeling slightly ropey yesterday afternoon, but only as if I had a cold coming on, and it’s years even since I had one of those. I have a series of appointments this week so I got one of the leftover Covid tests from the medicines drawer, result in no doubt.

  • What I’m seeing here is a lot of Covid newbies, I’m sure the virus has changed its face, but overall doesn’t seem very serious. I’m slightly concerned re MS as that gets much worse during an inflammatory load, and I could end up being hardly able to move, as my disease is well into a progressive phase, and I’ve had an episode of weak respiratory muscles before, but without apparent active infection, although scans showed resolving lung lesions at the time.

  • Temperature rising through the day, over 104F atm, feeling like death warmed up, starting to find it slightly difficult to breath. I’m dreading this getting worse as I live by myself.

  • Headache slightly less, temp rising again, lungs filling with phlegm, SPO2 dipping to low 80s

I'd be getting on to a doctor with an spo of low 80s tbh

Official advice is to call an ambulance if SpO2 is below 92 with Covid.

  • I’ve been an inpatient 3 times this year, have MS, have had bad experiences of ED spending 18 hours on a chair with peritonitis. I am highly reluctant to go near ED unless o have zero other choice.

Seems like you have no other choice with oxygen that low.. Is it still the same level?

Post edited by Boards.ie: Paul on

  • You’ve no idea what my GP service is like. I like my own GP personally but he’s as good with computers as Ray Darcy is with the sound buttons, and I always get sent the wrong route. If I need it will be the ambulance service, they are 100% but getting into ED, even though I have significant difficulty walking there is always a sense of “hurry up”. I had to discharge myself last time in a public hospital as consultant was not allowed do a certain scan. I got a taxi to a private hospital, had it done, diagnosed and treated. Also I had a uterine perforation this year due to careless gynae procedure, that’s when I ended up with peritonitis. I hate hospitals.

You have MS phone an ambulance. I’m an ex nurse and you sound in a bad way. Do you have home oxygen or a nebuliser?

  • I’m keeping a close eye on SPO2, if it consistently drops down eg 80-90 I will call an ambulance but they want you to be at death’s door before they attempt to treat you. I live alone and couldn’t get myself home if they just threw me out. ED doctors are seriously unpredictable in how they handle things in my experience. I was nearly sent home with peritonitis only they observed me have rigors. They told me my lactate was up but that they were very full and could I not be treated at home. This is my experience.

  • Another complaint I have about recent stay in public hospital. I have an ileostomy and get dehydrated quickly. I was denied fluids for over 12 hours for absolutely no good reason. Doctor actually agreed I had been let down but said they work a lot of the time with hands tied around the back. Nursing in a certain public hospital close to me is deplorable. I have relatives who died because of medical neglect there too, so going near the place is a very negative emotional experience for me. I’d rather die at home than there any time.

  • Day 3 symptoms: fever down this morning, headache diminished, neuralgia in arms (could be MS related though), abundant phlegm, weak, mobility worsened as is expected in MS during any infection at all. Trying to distinguish Covid versus indirect stuff.

This afternoon, much improved again. Cough will inevitably be persistent as with all respiratory viruses, main issue now is weakness, but mostly quite comfortable. SPO2 much improved. MS symptoms always become worse with any infection as B cells, already toxic to the brain in people so affected, are triggered into activation, par for the course. I imagine the booster vax has is being effective in helping to limit what could otherwise be an extremely nasty infection.

  • Day 4: no more fever, bit of sinusitis , bit of a cough, feeling lots better, really regaining my strength. Out of curiosity retested myself, still testing positive, no surprise. Although initially unpleasant, I’m certainly putting up a good response to it as far as I can see.

Just take it easy with this. If you think you feel better, rest some more. Because doing too much while you think you're better, can set you back.

37 year fit and healthy guy here. I got what I can only imagine is covid during the week. Never experienced anything like it before and I got covid in the past. I had a huge temperature but was non stop shivering cold everyday. Deep persistent cough with a very sensitive chest. Sore throat, sore eyes, very weak all round. Loss of appetite with sometimes a pain in stomach. It was only after a few days when the symptoms reduced that I noticed I loss my sense of smell and taste.

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,943 ✭✭✭YellowLead

I woke up with a bad sore throat headache and fatigue on Thursday so I took a test and sure enough it was positive. I had a cold since the previous Saturday (tested negative) and so I also had a blocked nose. Friday felt much worse and had to stay in bed. The worst fatigue but also aches and pains all over incident every part of my face hurting. My chest hurt too. Yesterday I felt much better apart from fatigue so I was delighted, but today (day 4) all the symptoms are back again with a vengeance!

  • Registered Users Posts: 105 ✭✭zisdead

48 fit and healthy. Woke up with a runny nose and a little tired. No headache or body ache , ever so slightly chilled. Two days like this so took test and positive.

    Cough starting.

Last time I had COVID it was exactly the same. Only problem was although my head was as clear as a bell on day 3 , the cough was persistent for a further 10 days after I showed clear which was annoying as you get the inevitable looks from people.

Looks like this go around will be exactly the same.

Felt like a cold on Xmas day and did a test as I was having guests. Was negative. Test again on the 27th as I felt awful. Came back positive. Very sore throat, cough, aches and pains, tired, no appetite

Feeling a lot better today (28th). Had a shower but needed a lie down after. Last time I had Covid was March ‘22 and similar symptoms.

  • I found the Covid illness short and sharp enough, made a quick initial recovery but a bacterial pneumonia set in badly enough in left lower lobe and some patches in upper lobes, so put on antibiotics, and it is a little stubborn as these things tend to be. I have MS which means I tend to have depleted immune response cells so would be a bit more prone to this kind of secondary infection.

I had a really sore throat and a headache that came and went. I had a pos test, 3 days later a negative test then a pos test 2 days after that. I did the tests the same way all 3 times is this common?

To see if I had it initially. Then tested to see if I was negative so I could go out. Then the Mrs asked me to test agin as her mother was coming over and she was paranoid so I agreed to keep the peace and it was positive.

With the sore throat, did you test for the flu. have you taken the flu vaccine?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,980 ✭✭✭Pauliedragon

No I never get the flu vaccine. I didn't even know there was a test for flu

Got it for the third time (that I know of), antigen test T line instantly dark so I'm probably madly infectious. Taste and smell fine, lost my sense of smell on the first one but that's mostly come back by now.

Tight chest and slightly nauseous, mildest dose so far by some distance, hope it stays like that. I attended a family gathering a few days ago, so I either got it there or if not may have infected them all, the joys of it all.

Have it for the second time now and it's far far worse than the first time I caught it. Only beginning to feel better today after 4 days on my back in bed and have made it out into the garden for some air. Haven't been vaccinated since whenever the first jabs happened.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,411 ✭✭✭✭woodchuck

My parents are in their late 60s and have it for the first time. They're feeling absolutely horrendous. Aches and pains, high temperature, bad cough, migraines etc.

Got it for the first time in December.

Felt lethargic, headache, sore throat. No cough. Lost my smell after about a week. That was the most annoying part. I used essential oils to retrain my smell and had it back in time for Christmas.

I took over the counter meds and copious amounts of Udo's adult blend probiotics in the first few days of sickness. Which I think helped a lot.

Overall it was quite manageable. Personally speaking.

don't feel great and did a covid test earlier, came back positive.

BUT, sorry to be disgusting here, the swab was bloody so not sure if its even valid. thoughts?

My nose is still bloody and poking something up it will make it worse.

Could one just do it with a swab from the throat only? or is that another type of test kit I would need

just Over it. In bed for two days with fatigue and some body aches. Back to working from home today, still a bit tired. No cough or anything.

Had flus which were 10 times worse.

i tested positive tuesday morning and i tested negative this morning. so i've had covid for the last 5 days without realising it. no symptoms what so ever

  • Registered Users Posts: 309 ✭✭lillycakes2

I found it very annoying this time. I am in late 30;s and healthy. It started off mild- bit of chills, felt really off, diarrhea, then got worse very bad congestion, very bad headache, nausea, vomiting, fever, blocked ears. Day 8 and still not right, only turning the corner really. Is anyone else having it this bad ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,361 ✭✭✭mojesius

Just got the second dose of COVID here. Avoided it since 2021. Id a bad headache on Monday, chills/fever all night shaking in bed, cough started today. Yesterday, I felt a lot worse, just slept and slept and drank water. A bit better today but not much. My husband is definitely a day behind me with it.

Kids both testing negative but have to keep them at home. Will be great craic trying to entertain them while we are sick.

Apparently cases are up 20% this week.

It finally got me. I'm in my late 30s and it's my first time catching Covid. I woke up feeling rough on Tuesday and the test came back positive. I had a temperature, aches and pains, and very tired. My temperature went down yesterday, which helps a lot, but I'm still very tired, have a sore throat and snotty.

My Dad caught it for the first time during the winter and he's suffering from long Covid now. He can't walk for more than 5 or 10 minutes without getting exhausted.

  • Registered Users Posts: 312 ✭✭LetticebCivil

Very tired. It has moved from the head into chest. Coughed up a lot of sh1t this morning. Slept well last night. Hopefully it leaves me as quickly as it came.

  • Registered Users Posts: 209 ✭✭lillielad

Tested positive last Wednesday (started to feel shite on Tuesday).

Had a bad cough, bad cold, and body aches, hot and cold flushes, and had a high temperature throughout the last couple of days.

Feel slightly better today but still have a bad cold, stuffy head and exhausted, any idea how long this variant lasts, definitely the worst dose of covid I've had. This possibly coincides with the fact I haven't got a vaccine in a good while but sure look.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,494 ✭✭✭fun loving criminal

Variants are changing so much that vaccines are behind anyway. A well fitting mask helps. Not a fabric mask or those baggy blues. KN95, N95, FFP2, FFP3 masks help and good ventilation and not being around sick people.

I had Covid 2 weeks ago . The illness itself I can handle, I just play playstation in bed until it passes. It's the weeks of Brain fog and fatigue that follow that are a struggle for me. It feels like being hungover every day for usually about a month. I get this about once a year. I've read the experts believe the brain fog is a type of brain damage as the virus can cross the blood brain barrier.

This cant be good having this covid brain damage regularly, like over a lifetime that's go to add up and put some serous wear on the system. I'm tempted to get pre-emtive jabs but I could get covid any time summer to winter so it'd be hard to time.
