Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

no mention of the miles. Id be interested to take a look, wouldn't be shocked if 310k became 210

Something that came up on my bookface feed today ...

    50066076218_460b34fa39_c.jpg

I bought this BMW 740i 10 years ago ... for a ridiculous low price. We are talking low 3 digits. Still have it .. it sits in the back of my yard ... must go wash it and take it for a spin one of these days.

It served 2 Scally Rallys. A friend of mine drove it for 2 years in Dublin just to get to the shops and it's been borrowed by friends between selling their cars and buying new ones. The saying is, that if people see the skull on the bonnet in their rearview mirror, they just move into the hard shoulder. We consider it the perfect equivalent to the Blues Mobile.

You'd give up an annual holiday to drive that for a year. Well I would anyway.

It’s hard to believe that you can get such a car for this kinda money nowadays. I remember my old boss buying one of these back in 2008 and the cheque written was over 100k. At the time I fell in love with that car and aspired to own one at some stage.. I think now is that time, just wish his old car was for sale 😂

Talk about travelling in style, I did a banger rally up around Scandinavia back in 2009 and our chariot of choice was a 1995 VW Golf with a 1.3 litre engine :D I think I'd much prefer that luxobarge

We did the irish and the UK one. The Nordic one was discontinued at the time, would have loved to do it.

And here's a fun fact: both years we did it in the 740i, the team consisted of 3 danish and 1 irish (and I ain't the irish, I just live here).

But yes .. the 740i was the business. That is for sure.

A months tax and test for €1500. If COVID was no issue, I'd be tempted to buy it and hit the road in late August (nothing on at work anyway). Road trip Turkey, Central Asia or down south to Togo? No better way to travel once the air con works. CD player and tape deck to listen to local tunes is the cherry on the cake.

It’s hard to imagine that colour wood ever being in fashion, it’s horrendous.

There was a Bentley for sale on Carzone for a long time with a similar colour.

I absolutely adore cream and wood interiors, mad for it, the only way to have a car imo. theres most wood and cream combos id be sold on but jesus h christ that is ugly. if that brown leather was more a cigar shade and that was a deeper burl wood that would be class, but that is all over awful. Looks like the continental Ikea edition.

for 1500 an absolute steal, the cheapest way to get in to a v8. But if it was more money than that it would be awful, thats the most base spec ls430 I've seen, even for Ireland, the home of 'base spec'

    A very nicely spec’d W221, tasteful-ish bodykit, LWB all the toys, €4950.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,485 ✭✭✭KevRossi

All the toys except the NCT, which ran out in January, so COVID not an excuse. Would need to be a bit ballsy to take that one on.

Buying a luxobarge with a nct is a ballsy move, luxobarge motoring is circling the financial drain of a car at the best of times.

These cars are one repair bill away from being the automotive equivalent of anglo Irish bank.

I’m fairly partial to a bit of wood myself, there’s no better feeling that driving with a wooden wheel, but both of those colour combos are god awful.

I would even dare say overpriced. We've had atleast 1 of those in here before and theres a few that were hitting 6-7k a year ago. 1809 tax still, If it was a 6k car it would sell all day long.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,079 ✭✭✭✭Duke O Smiley

Agreed yeah, they don't really command very much it seems. The low mileage is a nice bonus though

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,717 ✭✭✭Midnight_EG

    That's strange, they usually pop up over 10k for a 600h and up to 15k if it's a 600hl

maybe an 08 on the cheaper tax band, but not an 07 in the 1809. its still a 13 year old car.

Either or, that's from keeping an eye on them too. I'd a 600 on my radar for the last few years but couldn't justify spending 10k+ on any car let alone a 600 :P

Even look at the prices in the UK

It’s a very nice example, but I think it’s asking a touch too much at €4999, should be sub €4K at this stage, 14 year old German saloon at the highest tax band, maybe I’m wrong?

€2800 asking for the 730 which isn't too far off it engine wise, so I'd reckon you are correct.

The w221 merc aesthetically from the outside is on another planet to the bm... wouldn't pay 5k or close for the merc. Unless there are being given away. Unless they are in lwb and black, the really dont look that impressive!

The bm v that merc is far better value and at least its 1494 and not e1809

the w221 has definitely aged better. can easily be facelifted to look like the 2010-2012 model too.
