Yes, metcheck are showing precipitation early Monday morning for some eastern counties, but theyr.net are showing little or no precipitation at all ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,780 ✭✭✭✭ninebeanrows

Who is up for Monday...Snowy Monday?? :D

Well Eastern counties should be but the west will
have to deal with sleety crap.

    http://www.wetterzentrale.de/pics/Rtavn484.gif

Totals of accumalated snow should reach 15cm's or more in the east after that :D;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,780 ✭✭✭✭ninebeanrows

Snow flurries should start to affect the east from
tonight and continue through Sunday. Accumaltions
of 1cm or 2 are possibly by tomorrow morning! ;):D

In Eastern counties yes :) Heavy snow will arrive early morning 3am ;)

Might turn a bit wet by 6am before turning back to dusty snow ;)

This little run through shows how the mild air nearly makes
it to the east but doesnt

    Sunday mighnight

Monday 12am - Cold air pushes any mild intrusion back

How come met eireann are still going for rain / sleet on Monday? I would have thought by now they would indicate snow if it was on the way, by your reckoning its less than 48hrs away now.

Abit from the latest UKMO warning that concerns us
    DURING MONDAY A MORE
GENERAL AREA OF SLEET OR SNOW WILL RUN ACROSS SOME WESTERN PARTS.
THE EXTENT OF THIS IS UNCERTAIN, BUT NORTHERN IRELAND MOST AT RISK.
IT IS ON MONDAY THAT THE HIGHEST RISK OF DISRUPTION TO TRANSPORT IS
EXPECTED, AS SNOW AND ICE ON UNTREATED ROADS BRING DANGEROUS DRIVING
    CONDITIONS.

I honestly dont know Felix, it's shocking really although as i say
the snow is on a knife edge but ground temps at 0-1c and dew points
below freezing will swing the pendulum in our favour for snow. They
wont mention it until maybe tonight or even tomorrow but hell
    they will menton it ;)

I think I feel a bit more confident about it now, been so many let downs, not just this winter but for years! 2001 was good but from memory only lasted a day really. Other than that I think 1996 is the last decent bit of snow I can remember - if this week comes near that I will be happy!

Look at the Irish Met sneaking in the words snow in a few places!
    Tonight
Cloudy, damp weather in the West and Southwest this evening will gradually clear away overnight. Elsewhere there will be largely clear skies. A few wintry showers of sleet or snow are expected near North facing coasts during the night. It will be a very cold night, lowest temperatures plus 3 to minus 1 degrees, coldest over the eastern half of the country with a widespread frost.
    Tomorrow
    20 February 2005
    Wind speeds in km/h Tomorrow
Staying cold tomorrow but dry and bright for most areas. Counties along the North and East facing coasts are at risk of a few snow showers. Temperatures will typically reach 3 to 6 degrees in the cold northerly wind.

I saw that forecast when it was issued this morning and it was quite the different!

I wont even begin to talk of what some models are saying of thursday and friday as its too far out, but if it comes to pass(a lot of doubt) the country would be closed :D

I'm saying its going to be cold enough and the indications are that there will be active snow showers during the week along the East coast and temperatures near zero.
The snow will be a hit and miss affair because its in shower form but if you get it, theres little doubt that it will settle I think.

    There was!

I was in Kilkenny City last night and there was sleet around 12am, some wet snow flakes around Freshford and Cullohill on the way home.

Thought so. I'm just on the outskirts of the City. It's pretty chilly out there now. Lots of heavy looking clouds in the sky.

It is 6.5c out there at the moment - http://www.nra.ie/RoadWeatherInfo/Map/data/htm/WeatherTable.htm

It is rounded up to 7c for this - http://www.met.ie/recentweather/

Eitherway, far too mild for sleet or snow at the moment.

And the radar is showing sweet FA in the lines of precip around us: http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/ukweather/n_ireland/rainfall.shtml

Ooooh look, this does not happen often, and snow over Ireland is rarely pinned by the BBC, regardless of whether it will snow here!

Who would have thought at the start of February that we would
have a chance of entering our coldest spell and most prolonged spell
of weather in years! The cold spell WILL last until next Saturday
with most runs keeping it going until the following Wednesday  :D

There are few words to describe what we are about to enter,
it is a weather lovers paradise! The coldest and most prolonged
spell of weather since well i dont know somewhere in the mid 90's anyway!

Snow showers will affect the east everyday next week i have never
experienced that! All i remeber from the worst of cold spells is one
big snow and that's it, not this time folks! This is something out
of a fanatasy world and boy you'll know it :D

There could be a 20cm's of lying snow in Dublin on Monday

Okay okay Weathercheck, chill a bit!

We have seen quite a bit of snow this year already (compared to years since 1996)

It will snow, and there will be quite a bit for Dublin, after all you guys done poorly in the recent zonality setup snow showers.

I am very interested in the 3am to 12pm Monday period, looks very good for a regional part of Ireland:

North Kilkenny, North West Carlow, West Kildare, Laois, North East Tipperary, Offaly Westmeath, Meath South West.

    Basically, a 30 - 40 mile radius of Mountmellick.

    I dunno Weathercheck...

    http://129.13.102.67/wz/pics/Rtavn6017.gif

Shows 1c for the areas I mentioned earlier.

The areas you mentioned are at 3c, slightly too warm for snow, also with the 8-10c SST of the Irish sea, it would further dampen the snow - literally speaking.

Not trying to p*ss on your parade or anything.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,780 ✭✭✭✭ninebeanrows

Those temp charts are notourisly poor for coastal regions
as they mix up the temperature off the coast for on land :)

These tables represent better and more accurate
interpretations of the GFS output ;)

    http://wxweb.meteostar.com/sample/sample_C.shtml?text=EIDW

Basically those temp charts are useless for coastal regions..
    years of experience ;)

it all seems very touch and go weather we'll see snow here in the east tomorrow night, it will be cold but it has often rained here at 1C, and yet some other times we would get a snow shower at 4C, all we can do is wait and see what happens tomorrow night, it may snow in some areas and rain in others, i think the real chance of snow wont happen till monday onwards. I would love if it did snow alot here tomorrow night and in dublin too... i could really do with a week away from college.

Snow on the way, Laois beating Clare 1-06 to 0-06!!!

Monday night precip still there an the cold about 50 miles
further west :D As Gonzo said we really wont know until the
    day itself :D;)

It will snow in Laois and the other areas I mentioned, and thats for sure. I would put the coastal strip of the east on a knife edge.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,780 ✭✭✭✭ninebeanrows

Sorry i disagree Danno because the cold air will be
to the east and a milder intrusion will come into
    the west :)

So the east will be more at risk than the midlands.

Im 30m asl so we'll see what happens ;)

    FROM: http://www.metcheck.com/discussion.asp

Synoptic Discussion: - Western Britain, Frontal Wave -

There remains significant uncertainty with regards to a frontal wave moving down some Western parts of the UK during Monday, namely Western Scotland, Ireland and possible Western Wales and extreme Southwest England.

There is no continuity with regards to its location or development, however there is a reasonable risk that this feature will bring a mixture of precipitation of rain, sleet and snow to the above mentioned areas, with Ireland at the moment likely to be the main region at greatest risk of seeing snowfall from this system. Forecast atmospheric soundings over Northern and Eastern Ireland especially show that while surface temperatures will generally be a few degrees above the freezing mark, the overall atmosphere will still support snowfall. As a result a few centimetres of snowfall is currently possible in association with this system. It will continue to be monitored closely and any significant changes will be discussed here between now and the time of the event.
