You can pick up a 6870 for 60 euros second hand these days, will be twice as fast
Hope to spend 200 blips on a new card shortly, so it'll do until then.

Jonny, but I dont remember the BF3 beta having the controls as wierd as this... i am happy enough with everything else, just the blasted movement of the player!!

Must say I am worried, this is the only game I play and the reason why I am buying a PS4... ARGH!

With the amount of time I played BF4 Beta, it didn't feel like Battlefield. I know it's just a beta, so I am only criticizing the Beta. In terms of vehicles and everything, it's awesome. However, there are so glaring flaws with the infantry controls and feeling.

    1. Mobility. I don't know why or how they managed to make the game so restrictive, clunky, and somewhat unresponsive, but they did. The light jog then sprint is a really awesome idea and it works. However, the movement and sprinting itself is trash. It feels like MoH: Warfighter. The whole time I played, it didn't feel like Battlefield to me. There was just something about it that made it feel very unnatural and clunky. This linear, sprinting STRAIGHT forward sucks. Bring back the diagonal sprinting used in BF3 because the movement in BF3 was near perfect.

    2. Gunplay. The minute I started to aim and use the guns, it immediately felt different. Again, to compare it, it felt like Medal of Honor and to an extent, CoD... Pistol aiming now is almost identical to Warfighter. In fact, the game felt very ARCADY. Whereas BF3 had a very realistic feeling with the guns, the BF4 guns feel very arcady. Not to mention the aim assist buff on console. WHY? Again, the aim assist in BF3 was very good. It wasn't too restrictive where it snapped to every little thing the game could sense but it wasn't loose to the point where it was nonexistent. In the BF4 beta, the aim assist is MUCH larger. I hate to be making the comparisons but it felt like the aim assist in CoD to a lesser extent, but it still felt like it. It looks like DICE REALLY played toward the CoD crowd a lot more because I can see some of similarities used in gameplay. I don't like it.

It's really quite hard to explain the disconnect... Even though it looks like BF3 on steroids, it plays like a COMPLETELY different game. I REALLY, REALLY hope some of these things will be addressed by launch. I'm not going to lie, this really detracted from my experience. Now I know everything isn't about me, but these are some of the issues I found to be pretty significant. I'm sure someone else shares similar thoughts..

My original post on BF3 beta.

    BF4 is ****e compared... worrying.

Don't see the controls being fixed... might have to join a gym or something as BF4 isn't so appealing... :(

    PS3 player here

Well guys, now that the Beta is closed I am wondering what ye all thought of the game thus far? I have a long post on my initial impressions somewhere else here so I am not going to bore you solid (once again) with such a long one.

In summary I think it is an amazing game, I played over 15-16 hours on Metro and still not bored. I've unlocked the UMP which helped and am loving the SVD or MOD11 with the Holographic sight, quickly started kicking ass with that kit.

I LOVE the mobile spawn point, it is a pity the plebs you end up with don't understand it. This means I am recon more than I would like but it essential to have a M.S.P. otherwise you will spawn on teammates and give away their position (fair annoying)

Whether you play stealthy or all action gunning the game delivers... ended up playing a lot better towards the end cos I was crap at first.

One gripe is that the UMP is on all kits so I reckon that will be used to death cos it is basically an animal of a gun. Another is that I can't get the handle of the earlier Assault Class guns (unlocked M416 but only played if for 2 mins) as they seem to have serious kickback.

The suppression sound feature is brilliant and I LOVE the tactical lights.

Overall 9.5/10 for me irrespective of bugs and debate over graphics.

I'm really trying hard to not read too much into it as it is a beta, but yeah, there is somewhat a worry from myself that BF3 -> BF4 will end up like COD4 -> MW2 or Black Ops 1 -> Black Ops II.

All they needed to do was just tinker with certain aspects that weren't poorly executed, better balancing of weapons, up the player count for next gen consoles and obviously upgrade the graphics. People can call it BF3.5 or whatever they so wish, but that's the crux of it for me.

I'll give the beta another bash over the next few days though, so far I've only played a handful of game and that was a couple of days ago.

If you're on an nVidia card you'll need to use the latest *beta* drivers.

I think it's to do with how well you play as a team. If you do lots of stuff to help your squad (revives, healing, ammo drops, killing the guy shooting them, cooperating in vehicles etc) your field upgrade score increases. If you die or go lone wolf, it starts to drop. If your score gets too low you lose the defensive or offensive bonuses you get from being a team player.

    Or something like that.

Think it can be very card dependent. I'm on a GTX 670 and every 10secs was getting serious frame drop. These drivers fixed it for me perfectly. Hopefully helps a few people out.

The auto-aim buff is pretty crazy alright, can't see the full game having that much assistance.

Unlocked the ACW-R last night, its awesome :D

I was surprised about how many unlocks are tied to them and I'm guessing EA will sell them too?

I agree with the idea of BF3.25. It's hard to judge a final game from a beta, but this has really dulled any excitement I had. Having loved BF3 (plus its beta) and played over 100 hours.

I could easily wait a year for a bungle deal on BF4 now (all DLC + game for the same price as the launch game).

    Played again last night;

    - seriously don't like it

    <> movement is kack
<> aiming is odd and out of tune with movement and sensitivity settings
<> it is too arcadey and seems very childish

These are issues I don't see being fixed so I won't mention the wierd graphics, poor hit detection when shot at, pop-up or any of that as that is purely BETA.

strill having the odd frame dive problem, but I am beginning to like the map more and more.

Unlocked the carbine and am suffering fits of delight feeling like the spec ops from battlefield 2. The Ak 5C is a excellent gun. Probably the one I've blown through so far.

Oh I hate how the tanks handle. Don't like the feeling of the vehicles in general. The buttons are mostly mapped the same way they are in CoD which doesn't suit this type of game imo. Does anyone know if there is a way to remap the buttons?

Other than that poor hit detection. Very bad suppression effect too. I can never see on the map where the vehicles spawn maybe thats just me.

Downloaded the xbox 360 version to see what its like and OMFG that is one fugly mother humper of a game.
I didnt expect much on ancient hardware but jaysus its shockingly bad.
The lowest of the low settings and lowest resolution on PC looks 10 times better.
Its not worth or fair even mentioning a decent PC, thank God i have one after played that just now :)
Dont get me wrong, its very playable and the locked 30 fps isnt too bad with the slowness of a pad, gameplay is intact which is the most important aspect of any game imo.
Im crap beyond belief with a pad but i managed to go 13-4 in that round
My son is a fecking wizard on the pad and hes rocking it up as i type.
Considering the ancient hardware overall it seems a decent shooter, its amazing 8+ year old machines even run the game.

My game will only install to 40% on pc and then refuses to do anything else other then go back to offer for me to install it again . It just keeps looping like this since 3 hours ago . Anybody got any advice . I have taken all the Direct X cabs and placed them in a new folder . I already have installed Microsoft Visal C++ 2012 64 Bit and swapped in a newer version as advised on the forums .

Well, holy sh|t! Since the ATI driver beta patch, when I play, the GPU temp stays below 70 degrees celsius! Before, it'd spike at 81 degrees, and CTD.

Have to say, I find the helo piloting very slow and imprecise compared to BF3. Trying to make quick turns to navigate between the buildings seems to mostly end with me failing down sideways.

The laser guided RPGs are silly too. A throwback to BFBC2 I guess. Not a fan.

Also seems as though the air to air missiles don't do as much damage? I've hit the transport helo a couple of times with both missiles without destroying it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 37,305 ✭✭✭✭the_syco

Find the machine gun thing on the choppers lethal to infantry :(

Also, had two quick games of DOM. Entire different game, reminded me a bit of BLOPS.

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 3,093 Mod ✭✭✭✭ktulu123

Currently making a cinematic video of the game. The spectator mode is awesome, I no longer have to spend hours trying to record & get kills without a hud (Which is impossible btw). It's class to just flick through players & see all the ****e they get up to. I have also noticed that the standard of player is SHOCKING!! Was probably just day 1 of the Beta though.

Also this might help people out. I was running this ok on high-ultra settings, but still getting some huge frame drops every now & then. I changed it to Ultra last night for the cinematics & it ran much smoother. It's also a fecking beautiful game

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,013 ✭✭✭✭Wonda-Boy

DOM is a joke....the game cannot try to be two different things. Either make it like COD or dont, to me the game is a sidestep more then a step forward. And the fact that the game is only out and the amount of mongos sitting on top or every single building looking for cheap kills is a testament to bad level design. Leave that **** for "C" capture point only!

Despite loving conquest I got bored of it pretty quickly, DOM is good fun though especially with the shotguns and I LOL'd when I found the USAS with frag rounds :D
Ammo for the shotguns is broken too, every shell seems to use up 5 or 6 units so you run out fast and the crappy ammo packs only give you one shell

Is it set up now that the Support class can only resupply certain munitions? A few times now I've used the M-25 and dropped the ammo resupply only to gain nothing.

The small packs only give you a limited amount of bullets, the big crate like the one in BF3 resupplies grenades and gadgets too.

there are two types of ammo supply

small which you start with and it only resupplies your primary weapon.

large which requires an unlock and it resupplies everything.

This is probably 1 of the 4 things that bug me most about it design wise as I have yet to see anything that justifies taking the small medpack/ammopack over the large one once its unlocked.

Which for me is a serious issue in game design with the unlocks if its not addressed.

In BF3 for the most part unlocks do not have a grind factor to them, you unlock a new gadget and use it over the old one, but it doesnt replace the old one, it does something different. Both the tug and mav spot enemies, but one is a drop it and forget it device and the other requires actual hands on time to operate it (sure you can park it somewhere and it works like a tug, but it still needs to be operated to get it to that spot) as such the unlocks open up options, not grind a progression.

the med pack/ammo pack change is simply creating a grind right now. There needs to be a much more drastic difference between the two to allow options. It needs to encourage a player to take the small ammo/med pack over the large and still have a unique and beneficial role.

As for my other issues with the game:

    2. The menu design is horrible, quite frankly the need to show off gun porn is working against the ease one should have to swap up the kit between lives, the top bar should be drop down but it isnt. The fact that the horrible BF3 menus look absolutely genius in comparison is a major warning sign.

    3. I'm really hoping this is some beta issue, but the IPD/RPG combo is *odd* I kind of get it if the vehicles were going to be somewhat dominant and in certain ways they are, but its far too easy to run a engie/recon combo at the moment, I would have thought it would have worked like the javelin/soflam where only certain rocket launchers can use the lock on and their standard mode is limited. At the moment the RPG is effective on its own and super effective with the IPD

    4. This is probably the most minor, I really need the new reload system in the vehicles to be more clear. Especially the attack choppers. It keeps telling me I have one missile ready to fire, but I cant fire it, I need to wait til it loads two to fire. All rather frustrating.

Aside from that my biggest issue is the horrible FPS I suffer, but thats a beta issue that I hope is resolved. From my understanding of whats being said around, the beta is putting too much work on the CPU and not the GPU and as a result performance gets severely bottlenecked if you got a crap CPU. And I have a crap cpu, its the next item on my *if I have money* list to replace. But I am hoping that the full game will put the work on my GPU instead.

I'm suprised they've made such a poor beta generally available on PSN this close to release date. Anyone playing this who hasn't played BF before, or is on the fence between COD:Ghosts and this is surely going to be put off. For me this game was a definite day one purchase, now I'll probally wait for some reviews before considering buying.

The betas are always called a disaster.

Yet somehow people have retroactively reimagined the bf3 beta as some perfect example of all bf3 was going to be. When frankly it was a piss poor representation of the final product.

I loved the BF3 beta but I've not been excited one bit by what I've been presented with in BF4 so far. That said I've the game preordered so I will delve deeper into it at launch.

I jumped into a match with a ton of people on the roofs of buildings but I just got into the helicopter with the side gunner, flew along behind the buildings then turn parallel and rise up just above roof level. Then the gunner has 6 or 7 snipers all looking over the other side to rip apart.

We did this and cleared off the roofs, the problem is when we got shot down and tried to spawn to do it again some idiots were just taking the choppers so they could get up on the roof quickly and start sniping again letting the choppers crash and burn.

I am liking that you can now shoot from cover at corners rather than having people do the step in step out dance.

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 14,715 Mod ✭✭✭✭Dcully

The roof BS really ruins the map, reminds me of one of the maps from Aftermath i believe.
Every server with 80% of the population camping on roofs, ****ing stupid.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,213 ✭✭✭MajesticDonkey

Yeah, snipers on the roofs is annoying the fook out of me. That, and the map repetitiveness. Although I love the game and the new changes, I don't think I'll be playing much until the full game comes out.

    Really enjoying it

BF3 was a much bigger jump from BFBC2, graphically and so on. This seems like less of a jump, but from what I've played of the Beta so far, it seems like good fun. I'm not gonna get into all the stats of the guns and **** this time, just enjoy the game. Brilliant fights around D on conquest, entire upper level v the lower level, bitter fighting, same with C, elevators dinging and people opening up from behind bars whilst choppers circle and try to mill everyone out of it
Tanks and vehicles feel fine, sound is much improved. Some are saying we die too quick.. feels like I am shooting forever to kill someone, probably just my ****ty aim. Looking forward to full game

    well in terms of graphics
they havnt released the HD Texture update for the game, so everything looks real crappy and plain, im seeing alot of dull colours in this beta :pac:

the leveloution crap their on about, well this middle building thing is mad annoying
its basicly camp city for anyteam up their
no one cares for the objectives, its all about camping at the elevators or parachuting down onto roofs for camping sniper spots
, i like the idea they had with the blocks they done for the bridge , kind of tacticful.

not liking some of the class set ups either
I am enjoying it though, i can only imagine the full release with 64 players on conquest
    be chaos :D

It's all about teamwork. Played with 15 guys earlier, 3 squads. Upon spawn we would take the two gimmes, then a member from each squad would be picked up in the Transport Chopper, drop one on A or E (depending on our starting spawns) and his squad spawns in, the rest of us drop at B and cap that. After that the guys at B move on C, split and head for all 3 sets of elevators, A squad is picked up by the Heli and head for the roof...they drop as we hit the elevator button and the transport Heli is backed up by the attack Heli and we take C.

5 flag burn until the enemy catches something and then you just fall of them and smash them out, pre-emptively dropping guys on points we own based off enemy movement around the map.

We steamrolled teams doing this, all wins in the games we played by more than 500 tickets.

It sounds complex and awkward, but they are clearly driving heavy teamwork and tactic focused gameplay in 4 with Commander mode and in game comms.

I have my issues with the Beta but I like where BF4 is headed, it seems to be heavy on teamwork, the guys who dont play well together will lose.
