You have to have inside Information. If you do you have some chance.

I worked in bookies for couple of years when in College part time.

Bookies was making only slight profit.

It was a hotbed for information. We monitored these punters and bets(for management) and few of them were close to 10k profit for the year. And that was just in our bookies.

Course this was during boom time, but if you have inside info you have some chance.

If you dont then you have only slim one.

Nick Mordin in betting for a living makes 5000 or so over a year this in the mid 80s. He works his bollocks off for it.

Does he have a job outside gambling? If so not too bad.

I make most of my small money from trading on exchanges.

    that's it in a nutshell
I worked a few years in one in galway, sister worked in one
    in westport (same firm)
most of the shops did well bar two, westport and castlebar and
that covered sligo galway mayo mainly
there always used to be good info coming into these two
    shops on a regular basis
ted durkan is a westport man (as am I) was a year behind
    me in school
When his aul fella walked into a shop everyone was asking
the staff what he bet on (he would tell you nothing) but
he got some great info (kinda got leaked from time to time :)

Kellaway and mc mahon trained horses for an owner in castlebar and
they got info when they where ready to strike and told plenty.
Anzio was one I remember but the one i heard about too late
was roving minstrel (won the lincoln at 33s)
Seems half of castlebar were on that one resulting in one
poor indo having to close his doors

no idea how hot these shops are now though

I imagine close to zero people on here are in profit lifetime.

It's just a hobby for the majority of people, the hours of study it would take to be a successful gambler just isn't feasible for most people.

The only people I could imagine being ahead are some owners and jockeys, if they were exceptionally lucky.
Is OP sure the Master won't be quietly laying bets on the side?

I can assure you their is nothing like that going on, it's just as I said in the op I do not think it can be done however this guy claims to have won the last five years so I asked him to put his money where his mouth is and he excepted but surely it depends how much you win. There is no point putting in 20 hours a week studing if you only win 30 euro every week, to me thats pointless unless it's like some say on here it's your hobby. Still very early days yet.
