Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. I'm getting worried by what icy hell will confront me at 7 am. Its been sleeting slightly, it'll be just my luck that the wind will drop and the skies will clear and then it'll be impossible to move tomorrow.

    Mike.

Theres a good bit of lying snow now on higher ground about 3 miles from here

A bit further up the county, I haven't seen a flake yet. It is now cold enough, but there's is no precipitation. :(

Still, I expect some by morning and there should be a little sticking on cold surfaces. I'm not expecting an overall covering.

Edit:- Looking at the 22:30 radar http://www.meto.gov.uk/weather/europe/uk/radar/

There is a shower bearing down on me and should be here any moment...
    My outside light is on...

Nice big flakes there for a while here in Rathgar, wonder will there be much of it by morning, a little settled on the cars and grass here. The good old snow dying effect as it moves towards Dublin is well in effect :(, looks like the west and north are really getting loads at the moment (the lucky beggers..).

Have a weather station?, why not join the Ireland Weather Network - http://irelandweather.eu/

That shower has now arrived and I have sleet here.
Actually it's already stopped. Air temperature is at 2C and holding.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,780 ✭✭✭✭ninebeanrows

Light snow here again in North Dublin with the temperature
    continuing to drop to 0.9c!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,780 ✭✭✭✭ninebeanrows

I think we'll continue to get some light snow showers
through the night with perhaps a few heavier ones
so hopefully a white mornings in store!!

    Snow17012005a.jpg

    Snowing heavily in County Laois.

Rural roads (untreated) are white, whilst the N8 is slushy even after salting.

I'm struggling to understand your obsession with snow. An inch of snow and this country grinds to a halt - it's a complete pain in the arse for those of us who have to work for a living. The roads will be chaos because no-one in this country knows how to drive properly in snow and public transport will be worse than usual as CIE concoct new and interesting snow-related excuses for being late or cancelling services. Personally I hate it when it snows.

Just for the record though, there's a light covering on cars and grass in Clonsilla but it's melting on contact with roads and paths. Looks like sleet out there right now.

Precipitation is back on again. Some healthy snow flakes, but most of what is falling is rain, so still sleet.

Thats the spirit mothman...we are all here being assimilated by the weathercheck BORG :D

After a lull, the flakes are blowing out there again, temp is down to just above zero now so a heavy shower should settle from here on in.

Well I'm willing the temp to drop, but I'm finding it hard work. 2.1C to 1.9C in 10 minutes. Grass temp is stuck at 0C.
The few healthy flakes have been replaced by sick ones...

AMAZING, just took my 10 Million Candlelight Lamp and shined it straight up in to the falling snow. Some sight believe me!

Still snowing in South Laois and everything is white!

A large shower heading your way Earthman should clip Arklow methinks :D
Although up here theres a lull but getting very cold with the melting
    snow no longer melting ;)

This will be the BORG's last post for the night as the BORG must
go to school tomorrow unless of course theres a whiteout :D

I wish you all a very very white good night :o:D;)

My final thoughts are for upto 10cm's for the north, west and southwest
by morning with around 2cm's lying in Dublin. Milder air
will turn the showers to sleet by midday before a brief
return to colder air around 4pm. Theres a chance that a large
trough feature may give widspread snow although there
is a warm sector associated with it so it may just be hilly
snow, the BORG is now signing off.

    ........................SHUT DOWN Y/N
    ........................Y
    ........................BORG WILL NOW SHUT DOWN

looks like its here-snowing like mad now, big thick flakes and its sticking
Sends healthy flakes up to revive mothmans sick flakes

And on that note-night night all-will report in the morning sometime.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,498 ✭✭✭Mothman

Some of those healthy flakes from the south arrived here (thanks Earthman)

    About 2mm stuck with 5mm drifts :D

And yes those figures are only mm!

Looking at radar, the western half of country is covered in showers, nothing over the east.

Just got up to NO snow in west Mayo. Thunder and lightning last night. Very strong gale blowing. The clouds aren't around long enough to drop anything on us!

im sure they were as sick as a parrot.
but were well over due a good summer im sure we all agree.

Light dusting on the ground here, there were actually a few flurries when I was coming in, but mainly it's just COLD

The nearby hills are very white, down to ballyfad and across to Ballycoog and aughrim-looks like a fair covering in that direction between 3 and 6 miles from here, perhaps more than 2 inches, maybe 7 or 8 cms above 800ft or so but the cover comes down to below 600ft by the looks of things.
Theres enough here to gather a snowball from the top of the car and thats about it.
