I bought on for just over 7 quid a few months back and it's brilliant.
I have a lot of experience with knives, butcher many years ago, and have some pro/semi pro knives at home.
I used to use a steel to sharpen the semi pro knives but know just use this. Excellent sharpener and would recommend them.

I always thought a steel was more for keeping an edge on an already sharp knife, rather than sharpening it. Honing, if you like.

I've purchased maybe 5 different knife sharpening solutions over the past 20 years, looking for the easiest way to keep my knives sharp.

I used backs of mugs, a couple of these cheaper sharpening systems from Amazon, sharpening stones, electric knife sharpeners, and now finally use the Diamond Lansky Sharpening System.
As I've built up a collection of all good quality knives (€100-€150 each), there is no way I would put an €8 sharpener near mine.
Honestly, anyone who says they know about knives and suggests something that costs €8 will sharpen knives should not be taken seriously.
At best, it will cut chunks out of the blade which may seem like it is sharpening it, but its really just destroying it and whatever partial edge it forms, it won't last.

Who knew there were so many knife aficionados on boards? Is it weird I've never had to sharpen any of the knives in my drawer?

Depends how you use them. I just have to keep my mouth shut when I see my wife taking a newly sharpened knife, cutting down onto a glass work surface and then complaining that the knife isn't sharp.

I buy new knives and sharpen old ones but my wife says what I buy is rubbish because she won't understand that she's ruining them.

Wake me up when it's all over.

You'll find most people have home store and more knives rather than global knife sets.

For these knives this works a charm, edge doesn't last long but the 10 seconds to re edge and the fact this sits in the same drawer makes that a non issue.

Good for the every day person. Kept my standard knives sharp for over 2 years. Rarely pull out my Global Knives - missus is scared of them haha - and no need as every day cooking is grand with my basic ones.

They don't put an edge on a knife they put a very rough burr on it which cuts well till it wears off.

I wonder how long this can of worms will remain open :)

Horses for courses I suppose, I wouldn't dream of spending €100 or more on a single knife, purely because I don't have any other special use for them than to cut a joint of meat on a sunday and maybe chop a few vegetable. So the odd €5 or €8 sharpener ending up in the bin having served their purpose, doesn't really bother me.

Looks like you take too seriously and as a professional I wouldn't dream of spending that type of money on a knife. Sharpening stones die exactly the same thing. The wear the blade to put an edge on the knife and eventuality the blade wears so much it needs to be replaced. All sharpeners wear the blade. The type of metal depends on how harsh any sharpening process affects the blade. It's a domestic sharpener for domestic use.

    Now back to Amazon ;-)

Yep, the difference wired internet makes is amazing, no delays, no buffering (except Iplayer but that's another story) I was miffed at the no extra storage bit, I thought that was sharp practice.

Unless your network is appalling you shouldn't be getting any buffering or delays. Even when I had just over 20Mb we didn't get buffering with any of the streaming services.

From reading the fora I sometimes get an impression you need a wired 1Gbps to stream Netflix... :D

Lansky looks fantastic. I have RUIXIN system and it rather works, but its stupid construction prevents getting consistent angle on the blade...

Just got some coupons from Amazon - I will give the Lansky a try...

The wifi is poor where I have the cube, I use powerline adapters. There wouldn't be a hope of getting a signal atrong enough to stream over wifi.

Not and issue for me. I'm getting 200Mbps on wifi where the Firestick is placed. That said I'm still thinking of getting a mesh like system so that I can enjoy similar speeds in other rooms

I saw the £7 credit with Amazon Photos popped up again lately.

I tried to buy a Hue and promotional code didn't apply so contacted support and they indicated T&C's specifies it only applies to billing address and customers within the UK.

Used it last month on another account without issue so that's a shame!

Likes of Netflix will work on plenty of rubbish connections, but then others apps (the not to be discussed on boards kinds) need a bit more oomph.

But, absolutely nobody uses the kind of apps not to be discussed on Boards

Thank you so much to whoever posted the Coq Au Pan the other week. At that price it was worth a go. I just cooked a small chicken in 35 minutes and I have never ever had roast chicken that tasted so good without massive seasoning/basting. So impressed!!

Worked well for me too, My Chicken was labeled as 2200g, It was actually 2450g so always weigh the chicken to get accurate cooking time.

I used to have one of those things for the BBQ, great device. If you substitute beer for the water in the pan it tastes even better. Mine held a can of beer in the chicken cavity but you'd just pour it into the tray on that.

Sounds intriguing and potentially amazing. Where did you buy from please?

Just use a beer bottle. The dedicated pan might provide good results, but is a uni-tasker that will clutter your kitchen. Same results from simple means.

I just ordered one on Amazon. £8.10.

    Search coqopan or link here:

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B081KF9XRF/ref=cm_sw_r_em_apa_glc_fabc_8DNJM8V4RNSAXSN8RAYC?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

I used to use one that had a can to take beer, but this looks better/easier. This has holes around the cone to allow the liquid to permeate through the chicken rather than just to the top.
Avoids danger of bottle cracking if using beer bottle and of ink from beer can getting into your food.

Ordered today (Wed AM), delivery by Tuesday.

I've found orders in the past week have gone to three days delivery.
All my Amazon orders sit in the Dublin sorting office for two days before being shipped to Cork. One order was in Dublin for 2 days before being shipped to Portlaoise where it spent another 2 days before being sent to Cork.

The closure of the Little Island sorting office has been a disaster for speedy deliveries in Cork. An Post don't seem to know what to do with deliveries destined for Cork as a result.

The tracking system is another disaster. Most days when I check before 9.30am the parcel is still in the Dublin sorting office - until there is a knock on the door half an hour later!!

Wonder if I made a complaint to Amazon about An Post would it have any effect?

I think you need to be in a specific situation to appreciate just how **** some wifi connections can be. Whether it's due to your broadband connection, equipment, router or whatever, wifi can be affected in different ways.
I get 40mbs in my dining room but only 10mbs in my sitting room, which is closer to the router. The reason, apparently, is the composition of the stud wall, (don't ask)

Same. I am in a very small house. I can't get wifi in my utility room, which is a straight line with no obvious obstacles in the way and yet I lose wifi entirely if I close the door. We have to use powerline adapters to get wifi upstairs.

Change the delivery address to UK one and you can order. Delivery by email. However, as it's intended for UK customers only, it might take a VPN to activate.
EDIT: actually, it may work even with the Irish delivery address - I'm on the payment screen - can't test it farther, as it's non-returnable and I don't need it.
