Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Same here, I was having lots of issues with reception with Gomo in my home, both data and terrible issues with call reception. People needed to call me 3 or 4 times before they could get through. I had family members in other parts of the country have the same issue.

48 has been perfect, with no issues at all and clear reception. Three’s network seems to have improved a lot and this new service doesn’t really look very attractive IMO, but always good to see extra competition.

Were the people that had problems calling you on the Vodafone network. I was on Eir about 2 years ago and had lots of complaints from people on Vodafone that my phone wasn't ringing. I switched to Vodafone and haven't regretted it.

The ability to use a Handset locked to the Vodafone Network is a big advantage over competitors.
Used high end Vodafone locked phones are way cheaper to buy than unlocked handsets. Ideal for young people that go through handsets pretty often.
Post Mobile SIMs can also be used in phones locked to Vodafone.

From all different networks including gomo too. 48 has been perfect, as good as Vodafone when I had the famous “ student” deal with them.

Anyone know if the Vodafone suresignal device works with this network or post mobile?

Do Post Mobile use the Vodafone network or which network?

Is this a permanent arrangement? Looking to leave Vodafone as they're too expensive, but want to keep their coverage benefits.

As permanent as any virtual operator can be.

I'm interested in knowing this too but I already suspect they won't. Afaik, Vodafone's system registers the SIM ID (not sure the correct term) against the suresignal and not the phone number. You'll often find if you get a replacement SIM while keeping your number, you need to re-register with your suresignal.

They've responded to my email requests to add numbers in the past to say that such a number isn't a vodafone customer, where I inadvertently tried to add a person who'd moved network.

    FYI: From Vodaphone UK
We're retiring Sure Signal from our network throughout 2021 and will switch the service off completely in September 2021. This means you won't be able to use Sure Signal anymore, or register a device to use it.

The only challenge with post mobile the limit on the unlimited data:

a fair usage policy limit of 50GB

That is not a lot !

It won't, I had a Vodafone pay as you go sim and tried a second hand suresignal box and they wouldn't pair the number to it as i wasn't the original owner.

Vodafone look to be replacing the Sure Signal boxes with Wifi Calling, which should do much the same job, but without the need for the extra box:
    https://n.vodafone.ie/network/wi-fi-calling.html

Unfortunately it isn't even available to all Vodafone customers, just ones who are on their more expensive plans! So I doubt it will be available on this service.

I'd consider myself a major data user - with the caveat that I have good home wifi.

Until pretty recently I was on a 12gb package from Vodafone, and only fairly rarely exceeding it. Unless you're using it as home internet, you're doing quite well to go beyond 50 surely?

Sure signal is old hat now and basically dead... WiFi calling is far superior but as Gomo doesn’t allow it, I can’t see Vodafone McStingyPants allowing it either

Would love to be wrong though....

Same here. I'd struggle to use more than 10Gb a month outside of the home. But I like the buffer.

Its similar to the range anxiety case for EVs, I don't want to have to think about it. How much data I've used doesnt cross my mind. 27GB since December 24th as it turns out, but I had to go and check.

No, but it will be Vodafone, but really slow.

I like that they say it's the first month for free, but have a €12.99 connection fee, which means it isn't free at all.

Misleading scammers. When a company has this much contempt for their customers, they are best avoided.

Sim arrived yesterday morning and I was ported over in the the afternoon (as agreed)from Vodafone as I wanted to keep my old number. Sim works fine in the Vodafone locked handset and no APN changes were required.

Same coverage as before, but instead of paying the 20 euro a month for Vodafone X, I'm getting the same service for 12.99, so happy enough with that.

I know the download speed is supposed to be capped at 5Mbit, but with my Vodafone X, I was lucky to get even that. I did a few speed tests yesterday evening and am getting 6-7 Mbit down and 8 Mbit up, handy enough when I'm out and about as I'm not a heavy user.

So far so good, let's see how it goes when more sign up.

The first month is free for the first 25000 customers, after that it'll be an activation fee plus first month - so early adopters are getting a discount.

Buddy of mine has just been ported from postmobile. Has a dual SIM phone, needs 2 numbers on 2 different networks to make sure he can be contacted for work. He's just saved 7 euro a month by switching.
Data not a priority, so he's happy so far with the move.

Probably had the EUR20 rate like me and they wouldn't switch to EUR15 one as it was for new customers only.

He'd had been better to port to gomo or 48 as technically if Post mobile goes down then Clear mobile will also go down id imagine.

Edit: having read your post back, Im making an assumption here that his main sim is a vodafone one, if its not, then disregard :)

With or without the activation cost, I think its a good shout for a lot of people in the countryside. Gomo is cheap but incredibly unreliable, I rarely get 5mbps even when im in the city. When I was on Vodafone prepay years ago the signal was always fantastic wherever I was.

This will be my first time actually leaving Gomo instead of emailing them talking ****e....

Postmobile is still far better if that's what you want. Same signal but no limit on data speed. Once you don't need unlimited data.

The only people this will benefit are those living in rural areas with Vodafone as the only network available but An Post Mobile for €15 per month is better value as it operators via Vodafone's 4G network. I know people paying €60 a month on Vodafone 24 month contracts and all they got was a cheap Samsung android phone worth €250.

While that's crap I've paid attention to Vodafone's offers, they're pretty much the same as across all networks. Some networks will have a specific deal which is very good but overall they have the same.

The S20 5G is €300 on the €60 plan at the moment for example.

A quick (and I do mean quick) look at CPW shows all three networks have the exacta same offer for S20 FE 5G as well (€130 for the phone, €60 a month).

Alternatively you could always buy a phone outright and then sign up to Vodafone X. (And this type of deal until GoMo etc entered the market was typically the best way to buy a phone if you can afford the upfront cost). Vodafone X was a very good offer with the Spotify element to it.

He is with 48 on one SIM and was with Postmobile (now with Clear mobile) on the other. Service in his area can be patchy on 48, so he has the comfort of having an alternative number on the Vodafone network - without paying Vodafone prices!

I think this is going to be a trade off. I am currently setting up a router in Dublin 24 where copper BB is .2meg. There is a VF base station outside the window. Sim for clearmobile turned up this morning, so going to install this and see how it works. Slower, unlimited and reliable may be better than faster but limited.

It is for a pensioner with a basic smart phone and a laptop she cannot use as no workable BB. I am going to install a small ip camera. While 5 meg DL is not a lot, I will test it with a firestick and see what happens. If it doesnt stand up to the usage, which will be very low, I will get the postmobile version. 50 gig will not be a lot if we adopt the firestick.

Will report back in a few days.

That's a good shout Bikerman, Netflix should work with 5 however it gets glossed over quite a bit but the cap is at 5, not a guarentee of 5. Where you are, you would imagine you'd be hitting that cap but around the country, VF signal is not as good as everyone thinks it is. I've been in plenty of towns and counties where it's almost non existant and the likes of 48 or GoMo have thrived.

Three have been most conisistant signal wise for myself so far but the more expensive of the lot also so that's my current trade off.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,543 ✭✭✭A2LUE42

Does anyone know where you can see the contract dates on the website? As there is no bill issued yet and it is still 2 weeks from switchover date. I can't see anywhere that mentions the switchover date/time in the emails or on the website to confirm when it will actually happen.

Switched from 48 to clear yesterday. I had no issues with 48 from signal point of view but data connection was shocking. I commute Longford to mayo everyday and use WhatsApp etc to make calls abroad and is useless with 48/three constantly dropping data even though showing connection. Tried it last night with clear and didn't miss a beat , so for me even though speed is capped at 5mbps but consistent, that's better than having faster in some spots but dropping data connection

So I just installed it in a lte router. Speed testing at 5meg and big improvement in what she had. I hooked up the firestick and it ran fine. Firestick speed test reported 5.6 Meg DL.

Knowing it is unlimted, even though it is capped at 5 meg download, probably makes it most suitable. Install and forget about it. However, if it was for my own house and needed speed, multitasking and the rest, I would probably throw it out the window.

Personally, I use a gomo sim and a 48 sim in a dual sim phone for general mobile use. Gomo is superior. 48 keeps loosing data in pockets all around D24

I was the same with GoMo, constantly dropping on the commute and erratic data speeds (if at all). I moved to Post Mobile few months back and like you, the consistency is outstanding, i never have dropped calls or E data.

Why are they bothering? Unless the 5 isn't held however they are well able to keep people on 10Mb
Postmobile have a 50GB cap and they shut off mobile broadband altogther if you reach it, unless you pay 15eur earlier, than your 30 days. I ran out of the 50GB in a bit over 2 weeks.

If clearmobile gave me 10Mbps i would have switched. Ill ask postmobile to raise my allowance, but if they say no - i might still switch.

Other networks are usually 0.5-3Mbps here, so not a real option (Dublin 8 near guiness storehouse. ), but i keep the 48 going just as a spare (im using it now as anpost 50gb ran out)

Had not received my sim in the post by the time I was supposed to be switching over (an An Post delivery issue, not Clear Mobile), and gotta say, the online chat function was very helpful. Was seen to straight away and they knew what they were doing.

Meanwhile, I emailed GoMo last week about switching over and I still haven't gotten a response...

If you are porting to clearmobile, just port, I dont think you need to notify gomo. They are a rolling 30 day contract.

Was with Clear for all of an hour.

During the porting time my old sim deactivated, and I popped in the new sim. They never ported my number though, so I got onto support and they apologized for the glitch. They suggested to cancel my clear account, and create a new account following the same steps and my number would be ported successfully. Fairly pointless, if it failed once why wouldn't it happen again.

    The search continues.

When running speedtest, it starts around 15 down but throttles back to 5 after a few seconds ! But it's consistent.

Hotspot functionality hasn’t worked on iPhones for the last few days.

I was on their chat and they said that they were working on a fix with Apple but couldn’t say when it would be back but they will let me know.

They did say they were here for me and to trust them!
