Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

The tragic death of the Garda is completely off topic. Anyone even mentioning it will be subject to a minimum threadban

Apologies if this has been answered elsewhere, but what’s happening (or has happened) in relation to the legal costs related to the case that Gemma O’Doherty and John Waters took against the State?

My understanding is that costs were awarded against them. Have any steps been taken to recover these costs?

I think over three and a half thousand dead people might have disagreed with her statement.

    She needs to be sectioned.

    She needs to be sectioned.

listening to that line gets tiresome

have you any idea just how difficult it is to section someone in this country in 2021 ?

Yes, but the point still stands.

    She needs help.

Yes, but the point still stands.

    She needs help.

That’s one way of putting it.

Her behaviour is vile and I’m not convinced that it can be excused by attributing it to some form of mental illness.

Yes, it would be great if there was some legitimate way of preventing her from spreading her vitriol. But trying to get her committed is probably not the way to do this.

She may need help but if she's not causing acute harm to herself or others she cant be involuntatily admitted under the Mental Health Act - no matter how much you dont like her.

In all honesty though she is causing serious harm to herself.

Through mental illness she will always be known as this hateful, disgusting person.

How is she supposed to come back from that and recover when it's discovered that she had some form of breakdown and had no idea what she was going on about?

I reckon with the week that was and all that happened she might maybe get some clarity and tone it down abit. Same goes for the other right wing talking heads, they dont want rise their heads too far above the parapet incase of being deplatformed also

Cant have it both ways. It's just a matter of time until someone bricks her brain at this rate. She really is protected by the very laws and government she claims to be oppressing her.

They don't care; Mr. Miller of Yellow Vests Ireland, Mr. Heasman @ his anti RTE (Rte aren't Catholic enough despite Daily Masses, Weekend Masses, toe-ing the Iona Institute line in the Panti Bliss incident on the Brendan O'Connor Show, pulling the WWN satirical sketch this week, Urbi et Orbi, Easter Ceremonies on Holy Thursday/Good Friday/Hold Saturday/Easter Sunday, Christmas Eve Carol Service, Christmas Eve & Christmas Day Masses and I think they do something New Years Day too), Dolores & her crew of Flange, Sandra Giltrap etc.

They all parrot & echo each other; even if Gemma had a Eureka moment they'd still carry on.

I can't understand why the Irexit/IFP, Renua, National Party, Yellow Vests, Christian Solidarity & Jobs Party, Identity Ireland, Gemma, Andy, Graham, Ben, Dolores, Flange etc. all don't unite and form one party to at least have some chance?

Amont of times during the General Election you'd have muppets commenting under Candidate Xs Twitter feeds saying they'd be voting for them; then you point out they're both in different constituencies......dose!

Still though they do have some TDs leaning towards them as it is; Peadar Toibin, Michael McNamara, Michael Collins & MHR & DHR too; I'm probably omitting one or two too.

Ego. At least that's what I think.

They are toxic, bigoted, narcissistic megalomaniacs - each of them wants the airspace to themselves and each of them wants to be the one who "saves" Ireland from the imaginary threats it faces. Because they each think they are the only one capable of doing so.

And if they won't listen to the overwhelming majority of people who disgree with them, I don't see why they would listen to one another. And I am very glad they don't appear to.

Gemma and the head of the National Party, can't remember his name, are already at each other's throats and they're not even in the same party!

There may be a few involved, but yellow vests and most certainly Irexit can be comfortable classed as right wing. Still though, they'd be like a bag of cats if they ever tried to form a political party.

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

Ok but where is the evidence of these left wing yellow vest people. And its not righties. They are far right.

They're all full of hate and anger. Thats why mot of them spend their evenings talking into a laptop screen to the same few dozen people in an echo chamber.

Most of them are overly sensitive cowards aswell so they don't like opposing views.

    No, you're not.

It's quite possible some left-wingers were involved in the very early days of YVI, when it wasn't quite clear what it was and before it had its split and then one side of that split disappeared completely.

As soon as it did become clear that what remained was all far-right populism, that support disappeared.

Yellow vests most heavily associate with SF voters, conspiracy theorists arent always ‘far right’
Blaming the bankers/globalists (jews) for your ills is a solid ‘left wing’ conspiracy theory thats been up there for years

No. When Yellow Vests started there was an alternative left wing yellow vest group that set up.

While SF are a left wing party a significant minority of their support most certainly is not, there are more than a few far right nationalist types in that support, usually thick as **** too.

'solid left wing conspiracy'? Fairly common in fascist arguments from the 30s, and is seen in many of the Qanon and alt-right conspiracy theories today.

Their ‘lefty’ position is just to get the young onboard , the diehard voters are the opposite of this and im sure the ‘woke’ position has been explained to the core. Its done so a lager swilling perpetually unemployed ‘up de ra’ type can tell his single mother daughter ‘shure mary lou will get you a free gaf’

The only antisemitism I've come across on social media is from members of the national party and their supporters. I remember one who I think attended the noose rally, or another one of theirs around that time, getting kicked off twitter for it because the antisemitism was so bad.

It's tough on the Guards having to deal with this lot but there's not much they can do. Despite a lot of talk from the government at various stages since last March, there is no legislation as far as I know that means they can do anything other than advise people.
