Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    TONIGHT

Heavy rain over much of Munster and Leinster early tonight, will extend to Connacht and Ulster
later in the night. An isolated thundery burst :D is possible. The rain leading to localised
surface flooding in places. Some clear spells and showers will follow into the south later in the night. Lowest
temperatures of 13 to 15 Celsius. Southeast to east winds fresh to strong and gusty, with winds reaching
    near gale on coasts
with gale force winds on northern coasts by morning, winds veering southerly as the rain clears.

    TOMORROW - Friday 9th August

On Friday morning, heavy possibly thundery rain over parts of Connacht and Ulster will clear northwards.
Brighter conditions with showers will follow through the day. Many of the showers
will be heavy and prolonged with thunderstorms and the risk of hail :pac::D. Local
downpours could potentially lead to hazardous driving conditions and flash flooding.
Highest temperatures of 17 to 20 Celsius. Southeast winds mostly moderate to fresh and gusty
but winds strong to near gale on many south and east coasts and touching gale force at times
    along the southeast coast.

Excited for lashings of wind, rain and possibly hail? :D

I'll happily let the West keep it!

Tomorrow seems worse than tonight going by the met forecast?

Can see some the line between the current grey clouds and a darker batch behind them. Not very heavy at the moment, nicely raining if you know what I mean. West cork coast.

Some storms going through Biscay, plenty of convection incoming, will be interesting to see if it sparks.

    6pm (17:00UTC) TAF's are out,
Cork has a chance of +RA (Heavy rain) from 8pm-11pm
Dublin has a chance of +RA from 12am-2am
Shannon has a chance of TSRA (Moderate thunderstorm rain)
Knock has a chance of +RA from 12am-3am

None of these were shown in the earlier TAF's, other than the +RA for Dublin.

Predicted 'Rapid ECMWF 06z) totals up to midnight Saturday from this system for the major townships:

    Cork City: 38mm
    Dublin: 29mm
    Galway City: 39mm
    Limerick City: 48mm

Will be interesting to see how it pans out in reality. Lovely breeze picking up here now. Much needed.

Now it's lashing in West cork.. not a downpour but lashing! Seems to be coming from the east, slightly north according to the clouds and the lifeguard flags. Interesting!

You can see the very cold cloud tops off Biscay that is producing the current thunderstorms there, some deep convection just coming on to the Cork / Kerry coast coast now.

Raining on south coast (Kinsale) with about an hour now. Miserable, but not the torrential stuff expected yet.

ECM 12Z rolling out and showing parts of the S and SE getting 30 to 40mm before 02.00.

Continues to show thunderstorm potential moving up over the country tonight and tomorrow.

Expecting about 25mm or so here on the S. Dublin coast. Will probably be similar in nature to the heavy band of rain we got in the third week of June.

Just light to moderate rain in Limk so far in a strengthening Southeasterly wind.

  • Registered Users Posts: 67 ✭✭Go Home Paddy Cat!!

Cycled in this morning and the usual westerly winds. Cycled home and the wind had done a 180 since this morning - very strong along clontarf in dublin.

I think I may have found my new favourite forum on boards.

Question from a total weather philistine - What kinds of altitudes are we talking about when we seen the radar images of the incoming rain clouds?

  • Registered Users Posts: 589 ✭✭✭aisling86

Winds have significantly eased here in mid cork in the last hour or so. No downpours yet just constant moderate rain.

What are we looking for in terms of those CAPE values for decent CB?

I've read above 1000 to be sure of anything decent but that was on a random tweet ages ago and I pay those very little heed.
