Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Currently tied 27th in the open.

Yes. I have always maintained that he will have more chances in majors.

This one won't suit as too low scoring .

Padraig is type of player that would grind out a score like he has in this . But this is a course were it will be 15 under or more to win.

Equal leading Irishman - come on Paddy.

One over through seven, the good scores seem to be on the back nine so it could be a good day yet

They played this course in 2005. Paddy missed the cut on +13. Seen an interview with him last night saying he has no recollection of the course and had to look up his score.

    +1 for the day.

Not a bad round by any means.

Leading Irish player after day one. Nice one, Padraig.

very tight leaderboard at the moment, that double was expensive...at the moment he's looking over his shoulder to the cut line....had he parred it, he's on the verge of top 20....hopefully he plays solid and makes it to the weekend....seems to be playing solidly at least...fingers crossed!

Par,par start, 16 more like that would be good, never that straight forward though

  • Registered Users Posts: 751 ✭✭✭Dayor Knight

Currently at -1 for the day after 13, even overall. Keep it going, Paddy.

Sank a monster on 3 to get back to E. Cut at +2 (floating between +1 and +2).

Is he finishing on the 2 par 5s?

Dropped one 7 to go +1 overall, should be around for the weekend.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,776 ✭✭✭abff

Sank a nervy 5 footer for par on the last to make sure he'll be around for the weekend.

Holes the putt on live TV. Clutch!

He'll be delighted with that. A good week so far.

Splendid from Padraig - great to have an Irish player for the weekend.

    Peaking nicely for Olympic Gold!

  • Registered Users Posts: 751 ✭✭✭Dayor Knight

Padraig up to -1 after 9. -2 for the day so far. Going along nicely! One or two more birdies , and no mess-ups, on the back nine would be a really good day.

He's had one more bird on the twelfth, and shaved the hole for another on thirteenth. We're actually getting to see a few of his shots now. As I say that, he's just hit a wedge dead on the 14th. And sank the putt! This is quite enjoyable. He looks quite relaxed.

All of a sudden he is nearly inside the top 10. -3 overall (-4 today). 2 par 5s left.

  • Registered Users Posts: 751 ✭✭✭Dayor Knight

And finishes with another birdie on 18. Round of 65, up to -4 and into top 10, at least for now. Great day, feels just like old times! Well done, Padraig.

Fantastic round today....without trying to put a downer on it I'd be pleasantly surprised if he's still top 20 by the end of the day....

Good man Padraig! Great he got his round over before any weather delay which keeps threatening.

No downer, he was outside top 60 at beginning of play. Great to see him to low in a major again.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,840 ✭✭✭Panrich

If they get no play for the rest of the day, then he'll have a bit of an advantage tomorrow. A good chance to have a high finish.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,076 ✭✭✭✭vienne86

Play abandoned for the day and the course is flooded. Huge advantage for the players who have completed their third rounds already. Sky giving Padraig a huge plug now - great to see.

he can have a longer lie on tomorrow. Play gone for the day, 2 full rounds for most of the leading pack

    Must. Not. Get. Excited :)

Said himself he played average today but took his opportunities. :) Hope for a strong final round.

He had never shot as low as a 65 in the Uspga
Said he played better on Thursday!
Actually....I wonder what his lowest round in a major is?

Out at 10.10 am local time today for round 4 (no re-draw), so again playing alongside D Willett. Wonder if there will be preferred lies for round 4 ?

In any case, huge advantage in only having to play 18, while most around him on the leaderboard have to play 36.

A top 10 would be a good imo.

I think a top ten would be a fantastic finish bearing in mind he hasn't had one I don't think since 2012? Problem is those around him have to remain static....he will need to play well to stay in the top ten but only having 18 holes will hopefully benefit him....would be great to see him back up the good round yesterday with another strong round regardless of where that leaves him....

It equals his best, 65 last year at St Andrews also.

Man it would be amazing if he could do something today.
Realistically It'd be his last real chance at another major

Disagree on both points, don't think he can win from where he is but it is far from his last chance

Patty will struggle to make par on 2.
