Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

There goes one of my trees, got damaged in the winter, knew it wouldn't last...:(

This period of slack winds can be related to the wind direction shifting and placing some people in a windshadow (blocked by higher ground upwind) for a while. There is also a tendency for winds to drop off for about an hour when the main frontal band has passed. The system is moving so fast that it is taking time for the onrushing westerly winds to catch up to the front as they come inland and have more friction. But I think most people will find their wind speeds ramping back up after a short pause (there likely won't be a pause north of about Clare to Meath). Details may vary later on because a big factor will be the location of squally showers and these tend to organize in bands with breaks between where winds are not quite as gusty.

Really fierce here today, opened the curtains to find the velux window covered in debris. Definitely going to be a lot of trees down, getting worried about the garden here, trees being tossed all over the place

Some increase in the gusts when a shower passes through.Squally shower in Castlebar at the moment.

No trees down and the trampoline is bearing up well - starting to feel left out on this side of town :pac:

Nothing outstanding to report really - Mean wind speeds have increased to 43.1km/h & skies have darkened considerably off to the west with spits and spots of rain on the window as I type.
Just a breezier than average day in this part of the world, so far.......

Just walked the dogs along the sea near Furbo. Peak gust was 52 mph/84 kph according to my handheld anemometer. Feels strange having such strong winds & clear skies but I see the first showers are appearing on the radar. I think that we are in for some nasty squalls.

EDIT: When will the winds peak in Galway ?

Winds eased for a while. It brightened up about 30 mins ago. Winds have picked up again and veered westerly.

Gust up to 91.8km/hr at my local station, I'm 100m above it and in a more exposed location so probably over 100km/hr now, impressive considering I'm about 30km from the coast. A few branches snapped but the trees are still standing in the garden

Can everyone state their location, if it isn't mentioned in their profile, otherwise the reports are meaningless.

It's the unbroken sunshine that makes this so odd. It's now a beautiful day except for the 50 mph wind !.

Some nice live data here for those in the West. The wind is shifting from SW to W

Heard on the radio that there are lots of powercuts around Co.Donegal and also telephone lines down. There was a 40 foot lorry blocking a road in Doochary. Not sure what happened with that.

There are a few small trees down in my estate in Galway city. But there is a large tree down in the carpark where i work. Looks like a few more could possibly go. Park wisely so!

North County Dublin. Just South of Balbriggan.
10mns ago. quite possibly the strongest gust I have ever heard/felt. Really thought a window was gonna give. Tired of picking up the bins at this stage.

Extremely stormy here in SE Co. Sligo, between Riverstown and Geevagh with squally showers. No damage but lots of branches down in the back garden and leaves everywhere.

Also experiencing power surges which knocks my electric off. Check your trip switches if you're having problems. :)

    Stay safe!

Another wind non event here in Waterford. Average 22km/h, max gust only 50km/h at 8.30am. Some huge numbers in other parts of the country though. A major storm for lots.

Edit, A gust of 98.2km/h recorded at Dublin Airport

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,565 ✭✭✭Pangea

The car is covered in salt water here, gusts coming straight in from the sea. Dangerous day to be out.

These lows rarely swing far enough south to make it an event down here.

Decent sized tree down up the road.

Thats true Maq. Just thought on this occasion with the set up and widespread gales predicted that the max gust would be higher than 50km/h. Should have trusted my instinct and not get to excited ;)

No, but it was a nice tree all the same :D
I planted some new ones about two weeks ago. They haven't had a break from the wind since! Not sure if they'll make it past today :(
