Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I will say Bonn with the idea that maybe Beethoven lived in that house with the plaque on the wall.

Not Bonn, but a bit further south

Trier. I've walked by almost exactly that spot but I still wouldn't have got it without the hint.

EDIT: The original photo, the Karl Marx House, I definitely did walk by.

This should narrow it down a lot: the location is in Europe and is tax exempt.

In terms of what we were told (European low tax countries) I checked images of aquariums (aquaria?) in such places as I could identify, in most cases they had an aquarium or oceanarium but images did not match for Malta, Gibraltar, Montenegro, Cyprus, Monaco, Luxembourg, or Isle of Man. So I would need more help, unless one of those is correct and I couldn't find the match.

I don't want to name the country as that would probably give the location away immediately. The place is VAT and excise duty exempt but the country it's in is definitely not a tax haven.

It's tax situation is roughly equivalent to the Canary Islands.

Not the Åland Islands. It's further south.

It is an island but it's VERY small.

    Yes Helgoland is correct.

It's one of two VAT exempt places in Germany, the other being the exclave of Büsingen in Switzerland.

    Great minds, MT :)

That was great, VG, never even heard of Helgoland. Fair play, feargale and Kev, glad that's been solved after a week of increasing frustration: (

I'm pretty sure that's the UK. Even apart from the building style, car registrations in the Netherlands are yellow on front and rear. In the UK they're yellow on the back and white on the front. Also the road markings.
