It’s the 5th today, a bit of notice would have been nice. Would have enjoyed my Halloween a bit more.

Not the healthiest thing to do, mentally or physically.

As L1011 says. I've been getting distracted by the urge for about the last hour. But, I've been a bit tied up and now my lift's due here shortly.

Frankly? I don't like this. I'd be a far more relaxed and focused bunny if I'd sorted it out.

Inflict this on myself, for an entire Month? Why?!

    Its just a joke really.

Yes it is, semen retention has mental and physical benefits. Try it if you don't believe me.

Quite the opposite. Lack of masturbation has been linked to an increase In prostate cancer.

After abstaining for a week or so, I find the first orgasm can hurt a bit, and a little unsatisfying. But the second one is out of this world.

Can't remember the longest I've gone without. Hardly more than a week or so.

I lasted 4 days on NNN 2020 before having sex with an escort BUT, I abstained for almost all of September and October.

Felt great. I was more social, slept better, more confident, anxiety was gone. I had a real sense of 'clear headedness'. Would highly recommend you try to abstain for at least one month and see if you can get the same benefits.

    Hi Gareth.

I don't see why you'd abstain from something that has mental, physical and health benefits. Personally I do it whenever the mood takes me - several times a week on average, some weeks less or sometimes more.

Don't worry about social media challenges or fads. Live your own life.

I wake up to a salute and award the service.

If it's during the day, I just use imagination.

I find my attention is short with porn and it quickly becomes how much I can digest instead of a tool to use to reach climax.

If you're used to a viagra-fuelled supermodel having hardcore sex on a screen, what will make the juices flow for intimacy with an average person?

I've been avoiding porn for well over a year. Sometimes I slip up, but I feel much better without it.

because they dont have the self control/restraint to be able to abstain ?

Jeez, it used to be the other way around.. No one ever admitted to masterbating , so at least lads (and lasses) are more open about it now, thats a good thing.

True. Also a lot of young people have been looking at porn since they were about 10 years old so it's only natural they get repulsed by it and want to eliminate it from their lives when they get older.

Anyway, I did nofap for two months and felt amazing.

I tried it a couple of times before but I always end up getting a terrible pain in my balls every time I fart. So I end up abstaining from farting then as well. Both semen and fart retention can't be good for you.

Mostly the bizarre puritanism of it.

We've gone from thinking of porn and masturbation as being sinful and harmful, to being accepted as normal aspects of human sexual behavior and back to being sinful and harmful again.

The pseudo-scientific claptrap doesn't help either. We have access to the sum total of all human knowledge at our fingertips and yet we have young men thinking that forgoing a daily **** will grant them superpowers. I despair.

It's standard operational BroScience(tm) at play. ChickThink(tm) is the female equivalent. Both are primary exports of American culture of late. The fact it's called "no nut" or "no fap" reveals its origin. Nobody in Ireland twenty, even ten years ago would use that word for a ****.

Nothing wrong with a bit of abstinence. It's interesting the hatred this stuff gets though. I know it's bull**** about getting supreme mental clarity etc but while people claim its natural and necessary it's also an addiction for a lot of people and tightly coupled with porn addiction and consumption.

And as with all actual addictions it can have varied negative effects on peoples lives and they either refuse to accept its a problem or are incapable of stopping.

No harm in practicing a bit of self control once in a while.

I didn't say there was any. I said for some people it's an addiction and coupled with porn addiction.

It's interesting you say daily **** as if it's a must do daily activity. What if you're not at home? You're travelling or working. You still squeeze in that daily ****? Even though the situation/location may not be appropriate?

As with anything else the act itself may not necessarily be bad and some people can do it regularly without issue. Some people however develop a dependance on it and need to do it as a matter of priority in their life. And that need to do it and prioritise it can have detrimental effects on your life which isn't healthy.

Take that teacher caught **** in school as an example. Nothing wrong with having a **** and watching porn. But if you get to the point you feel the need to do it in a classroom of a school because you think nobody is around then you've got a problem.

The sum total of human knowledge, ask any dietician what that means, or any 'personal trainer'....

Its amazing how far we've come, and yet we have no ****ing clue about how our bodies work or what nutrients they need and what they actually do,,,

I never said it was, I said masturbation/porn consumption can be an addiction and there's no harm in practicing some self control once in a while. If you cant go a couple days before you're in sweats and getting the horn from the Cadburys caramel bunny then your habits may not be as healthy as you think.

As for the promise of mental clarity due to increased testosterone or whatever people say happens, it's probably bull**** but I'm sure there are some mental health benefits to abstaining from habitual behaviour. Even in terms of knowing you have the willpower to stop doing it and it's not an uncontrollable addictive habit it's good.

It's as.legitimate as any other month off any other addiction... no alcohol April, ... no fags February..., it's what you do after that that matters, that makes the difference

Well I don't think any of those are legitimate. With fags and drink, people do those months off for reasons like just wanting a break, or wanting to lose weight, or improve skin, or focus on something else etc.

A masturbation or porn addiction is more about identifying triggers and doing something about reducing their frequency, or doing something else when they hit, like walking to the shop instead of just doing it out of boredom.

I don't really agree with any all or nothing methods. Too many people hit failure and go back to where they were before. And it's really easy to fail No Nut November since it's a base urge, and in moderation, is good for you, unlike pretty much everything else people try to give up.

This makes no sense to me. I've a sweet tooth. I don't drink or smoke and I try to eat reasonably well. I do love my chocolate and crisps and if I find that when I give them up for lent I'm back on them Easter Sunday. Going completely off is counterproductive. Moderation and discipline are what you need to be practicing, not some imported US internet nonsense.

Given we're talking about addiction this sounds a bit like a smoker saying that he's fine, he's just having the one a day but he's not going to overdo it. And there's no point quitting because he'll just be back on it come Monday etc.

If someone has an unhealthy relationship with something then a period of abstinence can remove the dependance and let you make decisions with a clear mind. As the other poster said what you do after is key. Accept there's an issue and try to address it through moderation or prolonged abstinence or go back to old habits.

Whether it's no nut or not it's all just abstinence. And it's not really a novel concept in terms of dealing with addiction or bad habits.

That's not really the same thing though. A minor indulgence and an addiction are completely different things. Moderate masturbation has no ill effects. Moderate smoking, drinking, drug use, etc do.

You're the one that compared your minor indulgence of eating crisps to alcohol and nicotine addiction by saying you don't understand abstinence in relation to those because you prefer moderation over abstinence when eating crisps.

But it depends on what your definition of moderate is. One beer a day isn't unhealthy. One **** a day watching porn isn't unhealthy. One bet a day isn't unhealthy. One sugary drink a day isn't necessarily unhealthy.

The problem is regular moderate consumption or indulgence in something turning into habitual behaviour and becoming unhealthy and affecting your priorities.

There's benefit in interrupting that regular indulgence even if it is moderate and exercise self control and discipline by removing them from your daily habits for a while so you're not overly dependent on them as part of your daily life.

I've began taking 40mg of the antidepressant fluoxetine (Prozac), and so far my urge to masturbate has gone down the drain. I haven't nutted in a week and a half.

It's not bad at all, don't get people who complain about a low sex drive to be honest.

Anyone else somewhat agree with the "superhuman benefits" abstaining is said to have? I absolutely do.

Personally I'm more confident, my skin looks healthier, thicker hair, manlier voice and generally the opposite sex give you more attention when abstaining.
