    Interesting article.

9 academy debutantes last season, can't see there being as many this year, not because there is less talent coming through, there is arguably more, but because the squad is fuller.

Think this is right on the money. While is think both Lowry and Baloucoune are massively talented, and June looks pretty much ready, there's no question that those boys were pushing at an open door. Trimble, Bowe and Payne all retired the season before, Gilroy missed the whole season and Marshall most of it.

Also sounds like they're still holding out hope for Dunleavy.

Does indeed, opportunities are definitely there for 6 or 8! From what I saw of him seemed like a good solid grafter, nothing flashy. But did the heavy, hard work.

Interestedly "Rea topped the charts in effective collisions" wasn't he injured for a good part of the season?

If both Jordi and Marcel go to the WC then you'd think someone will get a chance as it's an attritional position, and there is a 2 game mini tour of SA at the start October.

With those two gone you're looking at Timoney, Ross, Jones, Reidy and Matthew and Marcus Rea, so fair enough that's 6 players and maybe enough to see us through the first few games, but all it takes is an injury or two and then you're looking at Dunleavy, Hall, Allison and McCann. If those guys get a chance, like Marcus Rea last season, then they may play themselves into serious contention.

Delighted to see Aaron Sexton join up with the sevens, it will improve his defence and finishing!

    Ulster Schools v Italy u18 today. 18 v 12.

Italy very useful side. Lineout was almost untouched.

Leinster lost 23 v 28 on Sunday past.

    Italy had some great players.

Super game. Could easily have been beaten.

Halftime at the Ulster v Leinster development game at is 12-7 to ulster. Leinster scored a penalty try off a driving maul. Ulster had a nice try off a break down the wing, and another scored from close range.

Ulster scrum on top and look the better side, but we have an older team, and Leinster look comfortable enough in defence and are going through the phases well in attack.

    1. Callum Reid
    2. Tom Stewart
    3. Peter cooper
    4. Conor McMenamin (spelling?)
    5. Bradley luney (I think)
    6. JJ Mckee
    7. David McCann
    8. Azur Allison
    9. Lewis Finlay
    10. ?
    11. ?
    12. ?
    13. Hayden Hyde
    14. Ethan mcilroy
    15. Conor Rankin

12-12 Leinster with another maul over the line

Ulster win 15-12. Ran it from their own 22 on the final play and got a penalty at the far side

    How did 2 14 and 15 go?

    Is 11 Pollock?

    Any word on 19's today?

The 11 was a small blonde guy, pollock is ginger I think?

McIlroy and Rankin didn’t have brilliant games, a couple of poor kicks between them. McIlroy looked strong in the tackle though, and set up our try after a break down the line and a nice step to beat the Leinster fullback.

Tom Stewart might’ve been our best player today. Every line out throw was spot on in bad conditions, looked really mobile and tackled well.

Luke Pollock was playing for the 19’s today. Ben Power was 12 and Greg Hutley 10.

How did Hyde get on for the Development XV? Maybe hard to judge of the conditions were bad.

The 10 casually hit a drop kick from almost the halfway line. Hit the post and he had the wind on his side but it was a fun moment.

Yea the ball didn't get moved much, and our hands failed us in the second half a little. Hyde had a couple of carries, but never threatened a line break - neither did anyone else though. He's a fairly big guy is all I can say after that game.

    McIlroy is a clever attacker

Will be interesting to see how he progresses this year, he may have to move elsewhere to make it

  • Registered Users Posts: 569 ✭✭✭Hands Like Flippers

    Teamsheet up on frontrow union.

Rex Tinsley was wing. He played 13 for ccb in the Schools cup.

Some great photos of game. Shows him sidestepping his man really well.

    Oh FFS.

Well that is a massive blow for Ulster if his injury takes him out beyond the WC.
