Bulova who made the Accutron, when quartz came along cleverly adapted an Accutron movement to take a quartz module, so very smooth sweeping seconds hand. And buzzing. Those teeny screws at the top left was how you regulated the +/-. Nightmare. Luckily this one is spot on. Under a minute a year. Note how the "silicon chip" has the manufacturing date on it as was the fashion in them days. 38th week of 1974.

    Stuck in traffic...

Accuquartz 1975 centenary edition. NOS when I got it. Funky strap and all, but I swapped that for a NOS suede one(70's baby!). The blue dial is brushed and lovely, but hard to get a decent pic of. One handed. Waiting for lights to change. :D

    That is an utter beauty

I have in the last few years really grown a fondness for Bulova

Any ideas where one of these could be acquired?

Thanks NY. They're pretty "cool" in a weird way.

The centenary edition versions with that tuning fork shaped case don't come up so often. The quartz ones even less and good condition can be hard to find. The best bet is to reduce your ebay search to EU only. They were particularly popular in Italy. American sales and collectors pay much more as American Bulova collectors make Rolex fans look blase. :)

Here's one like mine, minus the strap and with some "patina" on the dial. The blue in 70's watches didn't stand up to strong sunlight or damp so well. Nigh on 700 euro? Eh nope. Not unless values have risen recently? Going on values last time I looked a centenary example should run between 300 for a clearly worn one, to around 500ish for New old stock example with the correct strap and buckle, an Accutron version with the steel bracelet, naked movement in NOS condition more like 700.

    My gold version.

    534620.jpg

Had to catch em all. :D

Actually I think I still have a third example in my spares box. Wrong dial, but the case and all the gubbins. I'll have a look tomorrow for you.

I picked this up last week. It seems to divide opinion but I’m loving it so far (would prefer it to not have the rivet bracelet but you don’t notice it on the wrist). It felt a bit small initially but looks normal now I’ve had it on a few days.

Bought it on Amazon's BF sale for €38.

Stumbled upon the forum this week.

I purchased an OceanX SHARKMASTER SMS1014 last night, I got a shipping notification this morning.

Very much looking forward to getting such a hefty watch and seeing the quality. The previous post with the James Cameron homage was what pushed me to get one of my own.

I messaged the store on WhatsApp and they knocked €50 off the price, it was worth my while contacting them.

If you got it on seriouswatches.com they are great to deal with. The packaging when it arrives is super, and they sometimes include chocolates etc. in the box.

That’s where I bought it from. I was reluctant to say as it was my first post.

I had originally wanted the 1011 (black) or the 1012 (James Cameron) but both were out of stock. The classic-ish 1014 (blue) looked great in the video reviews I’d seen.

I spotted a Helberg CH1 yesterday during my search for 1014 reviews. The 6000m water resistance is almost essential for my desk job :)

Best of luck with the watch and welcome to the forum. Nice to see that for once one of my photos wasn't so bad as to deter people :)

The 1012 is always out of stock. These sell second hand for pretty the full new price on the likes of eBay and even on TZ, where they are typically snapped up immediately when they come up for sale. I've never seen anything like it over there.

I saw it in stock on two other sites, both €399. Neither site instilled confidence that I’d get it any time soon, not sure why I felt that but from the YouTube reviews and the seriouswatches website I was quite happy. Ultimately the colour isn’t the deciding factor in the deal, I think it’s just me projecting how I want to be perceived by people if that makes any sense. That’ll diminish over time.

I’ll put up some photos when I get it. Do people care about the packaging? Should I include photos?

When I was a kid a friend of the family had many watches. Really eccentric guy too. From what I can remember (25+ years ago) one of them had the gas release valve which fascinated me. From memory it was a Rolex with a black dial.

I’m now a mechanical engineer by trade, primarily working with 3D printed titanium. I’ve seen people mention the “tool” aspect of some watches. That’s exactly why I like these size and type of watches.

Will I ever be 30m below the surface never mind 300m? Who knows! At least my watch will be prepared if I ever do dive down :)

That was most likely a Sea-Dweller 40. Indeed a tool watch! That's what I like about them too, the ruggedness.

I just finished putting this together. It's a Chinese case, handset and dial with an ETA Unitas 6497 movement.

As expected, I butchered it a bit - I knocked the lume out of the second hand and scratched it up a bit too. I found the second hand quite hard to mount, as the pinion is just so small. I'll pretend the skeletal second hand is deliberate though. I also think I may have trimmed the crown stem a tiny bit too far, so will see how it winds later on.

    @Eoin: fair play, mate.
That is not a bad result at all.
I was patting myself on the back for fitting a new bracelet and a bezel insert. :)

I have come to greatly appreciate a sterile dial too, especially with its military connotations.

I'm much preferring this on a Hirsch NATO(now discontinued) compared to the bracelet.

    534785.jpg

Sadly, it definitely needs a service. So after today I'll remove the battery and send it away to be sorted in the new year.

I had been watching out for the Polar White Barracuda for about 6 months after I saw a graphic render of the design. I had actually put my name down on a wait list with Serious Watches, which I thought was a bit dramatic, but I see now that they are sold out of this no date version so in hindsight it was probably a good decision. NTH made 50 of the no date version and 50 of the date version. It looks like there are still some of the date version left. They only went on sale 2 weeks ago so it will be interesting to see how long they last.

To be honest they are a bit expensive for a Miyota movement, but it does feel quality in the hand and is a very well built watch. I like that it is its own watch and not as much of a homage as some of the other NTH designs. With that said, I am on the look out for a second hand Nacken Modern Black... if I spot one at the right price.

My Stowa fleiger and latest reading material.

Rooting through a draw the other day and found a watch my father wore circa 70s or 80s. It started up straight away after a few shakes of the wrist. Unfortunately the leather strap was poor so I replaced that today.
Keeping great time throughout the day. I can't seem to change the day (Stuck on Friday) but the date works fine.

I love the dial. Amazing that it's been stuck in that draw for maybe 20 years.

Hope I can get this photo up.

Maybe try(if you haven't already of course) this; pull the crown to the date setting position and turn it the opposite way to advancing the date. That's how a couple of my 70's day/dates work.

Bought from a boardsie and just back from service. Nice!

Must try out a few strap options. I like the bracelet and I think the watch 'wants' the bracelet but I'll try a few anyway.

My current lot, now contained within Mr. Lidl's €12.99 watch box.

    image4opt.jpg

I've ended up with a fairly broad mix of face colours and straps, so something for all occasions. Am covered for driving, sailing, diving or returning some videotapes.

I have the wrist size of a teenager so anything above 40mm pretty much looks ridiculous on me.

Stowa Marine Classic 40 - Picked this up on here recently. Nice clean look and top notch value. Swapped the black strap for a brown croco which gives it a bit of a lift I think.

Tag Heuer Monaco WW2110 - A present from my wife so is a keeper. Originally planned to get the chrono version, but tried it on and there was a bit more heft to it. The basic auto felt better on the wrist so that's what she got me.

Omega Seamaster 2531.8000 - Bought this in the UK over a decade ago. Was my first ever nice watch so is another keeper. Still my favorite Seamaster model from a design point of view. As you can see from the odd ding or mark, it has seen a lot of wrist time, all-round great watch.

Rolex Datejust 36 16233 - Does make you look a bit like a Miami coke dealer from the 80s but it's a classic and makes me smile so that's all that counts. One for a sunny day.

The Braun (Classic Calendar if I remember correctly) is from a few years ago when I was away and needed a watch in a hurry one day, it was on sale and I like the look of it. Never gets worn but the box has space for six so in it goes.

LWR in London as they seemed the nearest and actually contactable service centre. Everyone seemingly having large backlogs due to covid. As it turned out even LWR passed it on to Omega in Southhampton. 7 weeks in total and from what I hear thats as quick as you're going to get a full service/repair these days.

I know what you mean i was concerned about it too but you dont see the ring 99% of the time. Its only if absolutely looking directly at it. Which you would never do when on the wrist , unless u wanted to look like a psyqo :P:D
Its only noticible if you leave it down on the counter and look directly at it. It also looks bigger in pictures than in reality
