Wasn’t it 1995 that Brundle also commentated on a few races with the BBC when he and Aguri Suzuki shared the second Ligier seat?

    I think so.

Brundle's son Alex also does done commentating with Radio Le Mans, particularly when he wasn't able to drive for a while due to illness. He's very good.

So who here thinks we will get any races at all this year? I here Silverstone are saying they would be a happy to host multiple races as they have lots of different track layouts but I don't see any races happening until next year. If a race did happen this year it would be without spectators.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

Yeah defiantly without spectators. I wonder how viable most sports would be without gate receipts.

Maybe the fact that there are so few sports events means the ones that actually go ahead will have greater TV viewers and could command additional fees from Sky. But in reality, I'd say most sport is gone for this year at least.

It's funny how quickly it becomes clear that there will be no spectators at an f1 event for a while. The idea of people coming from all over Europe to camp at Silverstone and mingle and sneeze in each other's faces for the weekend, then all fly back to wherever they came from, is totally unthinkable right now.

Yea should be cancelled soon I'd say, I have tickets for Silverstone and Monza :(

Yeah I'd say you're right. Presumably they'll honour the tickets next year or whenever the event goes ahead and is open to foreigners.

Don't know if it'd be possible any more. Helmets are much more moulded to the driver than they used to be.

I'm surprised it was possible in the first place, with Coulthard's cube shaped head :pac:

I would love if the season started off in June, but that's me being optimistic. Relistically, if the season doesn't start around August then I think there will be no races for the remainder of the year.

I would assume if races go ahead this year, then highly restricted with visitors. On the other side loads of options to explore e.g. double headers or qualification races.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,619 ✭✭✭Charlie-Bravo

I recently saw this video working out possible races starting with France at the end of June. Skip a good minute into the video to get past the obvious adverts (unless you want to watch it).

This might be an unpopular opinion, but I'd rather the season be canned than squashed, squeezed, & shortened. Does anyone remember the triple header from a season or two back? All of the team staff were absolutely exhausted moving from race to race, country to country, weekend after weekend. I'd rather not see that type of pressure put on people, just for our enjoyment.

I also prefer the 'ebb & flow' to a full season, and if someone else other than a Lewis were to win a condensed season, they'd forever have the "but it wasn't a full season" monkey on their back. If it doesn't start by say June at the latest, I cay can it. That's of course assuming that it's even safe for people involved in F1 to be travelling in the first place, and it still isn't, and won't be for a while yet.

Caught the last 7 or 8 laps. Enjoyed it. Would be great if they could get the entire field of current drivers to take part.
It's prompted me into picking up the game. Haven't played an f1 game in a few years now.

There has been talk of doing two races on a Sunday for the second half of the season. My ideal scenario is qualifying as usual Saturday, the first race on Sunday is 1 hour long, and points are awarded for each position, first place just gets 20 points. The second race is also one hour and uses the finishing order in the first race, reversed, as the grid with full current style points being awarded.

Or they could just do full length races and cut a practice session and have quali Friday, race 1 Saturday, race 2 Sunday.

One of the races being an elimination race would be amazing. Especially the reverse grid race imo.

Hope you didn’t pay full wack for it. Was on sale on PSN recently for €20 and the new one will be out in the coming months maybe weeks.

I’ll buy the new one. Didn’t buy the last two versions.

Last night was great. Get rid of the likes of Ben stokes and keep the likes of a proper e-sports racer like Jimmy Broadbent and then all others should be racing drivers, ideally F1 or F2

Hopefully not. He was just as annoying to listen to after the virtual race as a real race.

There’s no G-force blah blah blah but I still won etc.. basically saying it wasn’t real downplaying gaming.

It might not be about our entertainment. It might be a matter of teams fighting for their existence, financially. No races means no revenue. I don't know if tracks can afford to hold a race without ticket sales. But I'd imagine teams can't afford to go without the TV money.

And then there's the imminent recession. Car sales have stopped so manufacturers will be under pressure to justify their involvement in f1.

Sponsors will be under pressure to justify spending big money in f1 in a recession.

So the teams might be delighted to go ahead with whatever races they can get this year if it brings in a few quid. Or they might prefer to go into hibernation if that's the best financial option.

Same. I watched Bahrain to see what it was all about. The graphics are great and they put on a good show, but I won't bother with it again.

Fair play to anyone who does enjoy it. I'm happy for you that you have some sport to enjoy. But it ain't for me.

Canada to be delayed soon, season now to be opened with double header in Austria.

What'd that be, 10 of the 22 races cancelled or postponed?

    8 confirmed + Canada+ France

As Austria loosened the restrictions it could be a real option, but even if all goes smoothly cannot see a crowd of 80000 people coming together. Austrian chancellor announced travel won't be back to normal as long as no vaccination available. So especially no people from abroad. F1 teams could be managed by flying them into the closest airport and escorting the convoy to the track while also building accomodation closer to the track if needed

Anyone looking for some F1 SkysportMix Sky 145 has replays of 3 of last year's races on from 9pm tonight. Actually Spain is on at 1pm and then Monaco at 2pm but Baku has just been on. Just caught the end of it. I think of last years races that was the best of them three and Monaco the worst. It was a very boring race last year if I remember correctly.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.
