Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hi.

I'm selling my quest tomorrow. I am planning to get the quest 2 on launch. How do I remove my account from my old quest before selling it?

Will the account and games bought transfer to new quest 2?

    Thanks

Yep your account and games will transfer to Quest 2 once you add a Facebook account to your Oculus account (bear in mind if the FB account is banned for being fake your games will disappear too so make sure the FB account is legit and has valid ID backing it)

According to this (nabbed from reddit) the Quest 2 has higher resolution than even the Index! Mad.

If I download a 3D film say a 3D bluray rip of Gravity, do the cinema apps give a good experience of the 3D effects?

yeah, make sure the rip is circa 20-30GB as otherwise it will look terrible

    on the oculus site

    https://www.oculus.com/accessories/quest-2-elite-strap-battery-case/

It made more sense as I wanted the Elite Strap and a case, so for an extra €40 I get the battery version (the battery is supposed to act as an additional counterweight to improve comfort as well as extend sessions)

Thanks! - out of stock at present but signed up for stock notifications. Shame there isnt a 3rd party cheaper version!

I bought these for my Quest, will they work on Quest 2?

Yeah I bought them too mate. Never even used them. Thank God I decided to wait for Black Friday before getting the prescription lenses.

Made a pre-order for the Oculus 2 64 GB and sold my Quest in CeX.

I was about to preorder but then I remembered I had 250 EUR worth of OneforAll vouchers in bonuses from work to get rid of that I'm struggling to use since I do all my shopping online.

Do you think Argos/Harvey Norman/Curry's Pc World or anywhere else will have it physically in stock in store in October for a non-insane price? What happened last time?

according to https://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=110551404 they were in Argos on launch so you might be lucky.

I'm in a similar situation with my vouchers, in that I'd like to use em up before new ones are issued at Xmas... have my eye on the Super Mario Game and Watch but might be sold out as you can't preorder using vouchers

I'm selling my oculus go tomorrow and may be selling my Rift CV1.

Maybe Mr Cheez could answer this one but how bad is the compression over Oculus Link / USB C on the Quest 1?

And how does it compare to playing it wirelessly with ALVR?

    Thanks!

Haven't tried ALVR, but Virtual Desktop was pretty excellent though I think the Link cable had the slight edge.

Half Life Alyx played perfectly and looked amazing in both...much better than my CV1

With Quest 2 I cannot wait to replay Alyx

Whats the best pure flying experience on Quest? Whether real world flying like MS flight sim/Google Earth or combat or just flying through ravines/skyscrapers like Mirrors Edge or whatever?

Ultrawings is great and on sale today as it just so happens!

Also End Space is a decent space sim ... there's a hang glider game coming out soon too.

No idea on Argos pricing, but I'd imagine it would be similar to Oculus. I've never known purchases from Oculus to be "cheaper"! :)

So I know you can play Steam VR games wirelessly on the Quest using Virtual Desktop or ALVR,
but I dont see anything about playing games purchased from the Oculus Store. (I presume you'd have to buy games for the Rift /S if it is possible)

Does that mean you should buy all the PCVR games from Steam only if you decide to have a wireless setup?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,964 ✭✭✭✭Thargor

I asked Argos/Harvey Norman/Smyths and Currys-PC World (bottom one) on Twitter, same reply for all. Any other Bricks and Mortar options I might have missed?

Virtual Desktop plays Oculus and SteamVR games.

You need to sideload an updated version from SideQuest after you've bought the game on the Oculus store.

Virtual Desktop is pretty much essential if you have a capable PC for VR (not sure about ALVR)

Arnotts tech guy in a couple of Gmails back and forth (after first being asked what it was by regular Arnotts customer service despite my original email linking to the Quest 2 homepage ) wasnt telling me anything for sure but he said email him again in 2 weeks and he'd tell me then so looking promising there anyway.

I have a Samsung Odyssey Plus that I bought and never used...and an Oculus Go that I used a bit but not much.

Would it make sense now to sell both and cover the cost of a Quest 2?

Any advantages to buying direct from Oculus?

Its only £300 on amazon, but you need to use a mail forwarding service like Parcel Wizard / Motel / Address Pal.

I'm just a bit wary when it comes to post-Brexit and how returns might be handled if there's no deal.

It's around a €20 saving vs buying off the Oculus site? Or more?

If the Quest is anything to by, it will be pretty much in demand coming up to Xmas.

I'd say try to get one now if you can, even for the sake of losing the extra 1 month of warranty (I think earliest delivery for pre-orders is now Nov?)

Amazon still seems to be running with delivery in October, whether they can stick to that or not.

I'm hovering over the thing, mainly trying to justify expenditure by claiming that I was going to spend 499 on the Xbox Series X and I'll save 300 on trade in, so in a way..isn't it really free?

Mods are asleep, post VR porn....

          .....just kidding!

I sold my rift and now I'm trying to decide between the 64gb and 256gb Quest 2.

I see Amazon have now opened up orders direct to the ireland for the 64GB with a saving or about 20 euro compared to buying from oculus direct.

I'm leaning on the 64gb as the games are relatively small in size.

The money saved can be spent on future accessories.

I haven't had any VR system before, so the 64GB seems the more logical starting point. Will just have to keep the library tightly curated.

Amazon is the cheapest but there’s no telling if you’ll get it from there sooner than the Oculus site.

          Damn you Il Doge

I think you are right about the storage requirements. It actually made me go back and double-check which version of the original Quest I had purchased.

Turns out I bought the 128GB version. I haven't installed that many games, and I'm using about 90GB, so my purchase of the 64GB Quest 2 wouldn't be able to handle the same content I currently use on my Quest. It's all the sideloading I've done which is eating up most of the space, but the sideloaded content is the best part of the Quest imho.

I've cancelled my Oculus pre-order and ordered a 256GB plus case from Amazon.

Turns out it's only around €70 more than ordering the same from Oculus, but after hearing that Quest 2 supports 8K video, I will definitely need to be using that extra storage space in the 256GB so the extra storage will be more than worth €70 as those videos could be 60GB?

          The mad thing is:

          - Oculus Quest 2 256GB
          - Carrying case
          - Elite strap with battery

is about €100 cheaper than the original Quest 128GB without a case when I ordered that.

Maybe I'm being dense but why don't they offer a 128GB option? It seems the options at the moment are either too small and too big.

There's definitely some reason they went with 256 over the 128 and I suspect they realised the sort of storage requirements for upcoming games in development as they'd have the inside track.

The smaller storage and cloth head strap may be more targeted at those who will use the device primarily for the social aspect like Horizons and perhaps a couple of games, whereas the larger storage and elite strap is targeted at those who want to go all in with playing lots of games.

Almost 24 hours later and I still can't decide.

Mr Cheez what are the storage hungry games you sideloaded?

I plan on playing media regularly in bigscreen with friends so I guess I could just drag entire series on there with the 256GB model.

The minimum size for good quality 3D movies on my Go was around 25-30GB... But for standard HD quality videos you'd probably be ok at around 3-4GB per 30 minute video.

Saying that though, the major thing about the Quest 2 is its ability to play 8K so that's where we could start seeing possibly double or triple that.

If you intend on watching videos then you'll probably want the extra space unless you want to rely on streaming from your PC all the time.
