Any advantages to buying direct from Oculus?

Its only £300 on amazon, but you need to use a mail forwarding service like Parcel Wizard / Motel / Address Pal.

I'm just a bit wary when it comes to post-Brexit and how returns might be handled if there's no deal.

It's around a €20 saving vs buying off the Oculus site? Or more?

I expect you to die is on sale at the moment, 32% off. Very fun if you haven’t played it.

I finally got around to playing arizona sunshine. It took me around 6 hours to complete over 3 days. Very entertaining.

    Oh hell yes

Also it's great to know Guy Godin has made $3 million on Virtual Desktop sales for Quest alone... he's readily approachable whenever I ask him questions on reddit!
    Great... er.. guy!

what do you think availability of oculus 2 will be like leading up to Christmas? thinning of pre ordering for my daughter but would rather wait until closer to Christmas in order to get the full warranty etc.

If the Quest is anything to by, it will be pretty much in demand coming up to Xmas.

I'd say try to get one now if you can, even for the sake of losing the extra 1 month of warranty (I think earliest delivery for pre-orders is now Nov?)

Amazon still seems to be running with delivery in October, whether they can stick to that or not.

I'm hovering over the thing, mainly trying to justify expenditure by claiming that I was going to spend 499 on the Xbox Series X and I'll save 300 on trade in, so in a way..isn't it really free?

Does anyone know if you buy direct from oculus do they take payment upfront or on dispatch?

On dispatch. I pre-ordered on the 21st and no money has been taken yet.

Mods are asleep, post VR porn....

    .....just kidding!

I sold my rift and now I'm trying to decide between the 64gb and 256gb Quest 2.

I see Amazon have now opened up orders direct to the ireland for the 64GB with a saving or about 20 euro compared to buying from oculus direct.

I'm leaning on the 64gb as the games are relatively small in size.

The money saved can be spent on future accessories.

Same plan re Amazon and on 64GB model. May need to spend more on pc to get the most out of the Link or Virtual Desktop though.

Eeep! Just after I pre-ordered the 64GB I saw this in a Facebook group:

Saints and sinners seems to be in the minority though, it's the only game I know that's over 10GBs

I haven't had any VR system before, so the 64GB seems the more logical starting point. Will just have to keep the library tightly curated.

Just had a shot of a my nephew's fishing game on it earlier on, safe to say I'm 'hooked' and want one ASAP! Is Amazon the best place to go yeah?

Absolutely newb so any buying advice appreciated, mind was truly blown on his Quest and I'm keen to immerse!

Amazon is the cheapest but there’s no telling if you’ll get it from there sooner than the Oculus site.

Thanks, not really in a mad hurry on delivery, more concerned about getting the best deal possible really, may even hold out and see what Black Friday brings!

Edit - sorry, I know I said ASAP originally, was probably a little over excited last night on reflection, haha

    Damn you Il Doge

I think you are right about the storage requirements. It actually made me go back and double-check which version of the original Quest I had purchased.

Turns out I bought the 128GB version. I haven't installed that many games, and I'm using about 90GB, so my purchase of the 64GB Quest 2 wouldn't be able to handle the same content I currently use on my Quest. It's all the sideloading I've done which is eating up most of the space, but the sideloaded content is the best part of the Quest imho.

I've cancelled my Oculus pre-order and ordered a 256GB plus case from Amazon.

Turns out it's only around €70 more than ordering the same from Oculus, but after hearing that Quest 2 supports 8K video, I will definitely need to be using that extra storage space in the 256GB so the extra storage will be more than worth €70 as those videos could be 60GB?

    The mad thing is:

    - Oculus Quest 2 256GB
    - Carrying case
    - Elite strap with battery

is about €100 cheaper than the original Quest 128GB without a case when I ordered that.

Maybe I'm being dense but why don't they offer a 128GB option? It seems the options at the moment are either too small and too big.

There's definitely some reason they went with 256 over the 128 and I suspect they realised the sort of storage requirements for upcoming games in development as they'd have the inside track.

The smaller storage and cloth head strap may be more targeted at those who will use the device primarily for the social aspect like Horizons and perhaps a couple of games, whereas the larger storage and elite strap is targeted at those who want to go all in with playing lots of games.

Almost 24 hours later and I still can't decide.

Mr Cheez what are the storage hungry games you sideloaded?

I plan on playing media regularly in bigscreen with friends so I guess I could just drag entire series on there with the 256GB model.

The minimum size for good quality 3D movies on my Go was around 25-30GB... But for standard HD quality videos you'd probably be ok at around 3-4GB per 30 minute video.

Saying that though, the major thing about the Quest 2 is its ability to play 8K so that's where we could start seeing possibly double or triple that.

If you intend on watching videos then you'll probably want the extra space unless you want to rely on streaming from your PC all the time.

The main things that took up space on my Quest was sideloading games with high textures, but even Superhot is about 6GB. Most Quest games at the mo are around 1GB.

Vader Immortal is about 3GB per episode.

    Although...
    https://uploadvr.com/oculus-quest-aaa-games-soon/
(This follows what I was suggesting about maybe why they upped the storage to 256GB)

Bear in mind on a 64GB about 10GB is reserved for system so it's more like 54GB.

Anyone recommend a decent flight stick for Quest 2 - SW Squadrons?

I see a Thrustmaster T-Flight Hotas X listed and Mad Catz F.L.Y.5 Stick as decent but older... But Thrustmaster T.16000M FCS Hotas seems out of stock everywhere!

On the 64 v 256 GB, I'm still leaning towards the cheapo route.

    Number 1, because it's cheaper.

Number 2, the Nintendo Switch has already trained my in the art of constantly purging and reinstalling.

    Number 3, fibre broadband.

Number 4, shorter product lifecycle. Quest 1 only launched back in May 2019. When might Quest 3 arrive? Even the consoles take more time before launching their "Pro" upgrades.

But Number 5, and this is very specific to myself, as I'm only testing the VR waters, the 64GB is probably the safer investment for me.

    Wheres number 4 ? ;)

Yeah I agree 64GB is perfect for those new to VR that don't yet know what they will use that will take up more than the 54GB available space and it's a smaller investment if it doesn't work out.

For me I already know I want at least 90GB as I'd want the same stuff I have on my current Quest and I use all the apps so never really uninstall.

You're actually entering VR just as it's reaching new heights... a lot of the experimental stuff from the previous generations has been ironed out now in this new Quest 2 so it's actually a perfect time to get blown away.

Talking of getting blown away... those 8k videos are gonna be ... goddamn! :D

Just got Squadrons working with Virtual Desktop...Crikey, it's good. Either my VR legs are rock solid by now, but it didn't have the same unsettling effect Aircar had.

It's a good time though. I'd say it'd look that bit better on the Quest 2.

I'm gonna hang tight with the Quest 1 and consider Quest 2 after xmas! Can pass my Quest 1 onto a pal for half nothing to get em sorted!

Wanna get a new CPU/Mobo combo as prio 1, and a a few other bits and pieces. I mean, they're unlikely to raise the price right? That's not been done before.. ?

I asked Oculus Support when payments for Oculus Quest 2 orders were going to be charged and they responded that payments will be drawn down after 8th October, so this might be of use to those wondering when the cash needs to be on the card

What’s the deal with the 8K video hype?

The total resolution of the Quest 2 is just under 4K so wouldn’t it be a waste of time watching anything over 4K?
