I find the ad patronising in the extreme and sexist. It speaks about policing your body for a man, looking after yourself for the purpose of male appreciation etc. etc.
It's a very well known method of female oppression.[/quo

I had to go and watch the stupid ad again, and sorry, but all I see is a women who knew what the bike was and clearly wanted one, and then updated her partner/husband on her fitness progress and is thankful how much it helped her. Stuff I would consider completely normal in a healthy relationship, in any relationship between two people in fact. How is the training going? Are your times improving? Things are going great, my times have improved. Those shoes you bought me really helped!! I got my pb, Thanks for all your help.

The only odd thing to me is the videochats whilst on the bike, but then they are trying to sell the bicycle. Wouldnt be the same if they were just chatting over the phone about it. If the roles were reversed I would consider it exactly the same, but guranteed the perputally offended would see it as sexist because it is sterotyping Women negatively, by trying to please their husband by buying him toys so he can engage in his hobby whilst she looks after the kid😕

Nice phrasing “normal relationship”, “perpetually offended”. You imply people are deliberately twisting elements of this ad to play into their overly sensitive view of life. I put it to you that you are deliberately ignoring elements of this ad to suit an overly simplistic and dare I say, patriarchal, view of the world.

I’d rather not start ad hominem attacks but I don’t think there’s much point in anyone trying to open your mind to the alternatives readings others may have if the ads.

don't forget that ad was sketched out, written, signed off, acted and directed, and signed off again (and that's probably a laughably short version of the process), so there was plenty of time for someone to realise 'you know, maybe an ad that seems to be about a woman using our product to make her husband/partner happy, may come across a bit tone deaf?', but it was made anyway.
that ad was made by professionals who should have a very finely tuned ear for what will and won't play well. because it's their bleedin' job.

anyway, peleton - as a technology - is ****. that seems to be lost in all this fuss.

How good were the bikes? Basic spin bikes?

re the above - a good friend of mine is quite senior in a publicity company, so it's a sore point for him because he gives a **** about the power he has to pollute people's audio/visual landscape; it rankles with him when ads like this are made. partly because he gets lumped in with the 'dumb advertiser' stereotype as a result.

the main issue i can see is that they're proprietary bikes, which i guess would function as spin bikes should the company go bust - but you'll have paid a colossal amount of money for just a spin bike.

If you think a 30 second ad about a fitness bike is worth in-depth analysis, good for you.

Being called a "muck savage" or a "left footer"directly to your face is in a different ball park to what people seem to be getting out of that ad. A direct insult dressed as banter is very clear, but may depend on who is saying it. The ad seem to offend based more on how sensitive or insecure one is. I might not get to decide what people are offended at, but there are people who are clearly over sensitive and usually dealing with their own hang ups.

Not lost on me ,"changing gears" if it can be called that or resistances maybe is the right term??? It's like turning a radiator off as per the red nob in the add :pac:

How can they have all this kit and not let you do that from the bars or with a button, a bog standard low end spin bike sure but on a fancy peloton

You come across as over-sensitive to other people's sensitivities.

seeing the upset it has caused there might be some fantastic second hand deals to be snapped up.

That’s an interesting and resolutely empathetic take on the matter.

I’d be interested in reading the code of conduct for your club.

How the hell is a treadmill company worth so much money?!

(P.s. Anyone have any info on how I can start selling my private data, including my health data, directly and cut out these treadmill middle men?)

Not sure, but they are losing money constantly. Close to 200million this year, expected to be higher next. Worth a lot in terms of share capital, but theyre burning through anything they take in

I think that they're also falling foul of general investor fatigue with the whole tech/web trend of overvaluing companies that become unprofitable very quickly.

SoulCycle has it's own clone here on D'Olier Street, Echelon.

This is why the death of the humanities and therefore critical thinking is to be reversed. Reading more into it than what is presented is exactly what everyone should be doing and understanding, critically, the subtext to advertisements is now at the core of this

    Death of humanities? LOL.

I just dropped by to chuckle at the pretentiousness. :pac:

That's been going on for years in other parts of Dublin. It's like dodgeball but with rocks. Dodgerock.

Liffey cycling route is delayed again
The long-awaited Liffey cycle route has been delayed again and will not open until 2024, two years later than expected.
The project to build a segregated 5km cycle path along the capital’s main river began seven years ago. If completed by the new deadline it will have taken 12 years.

Incredible gob****edness from Cork City Council...
Towing not the right response to illegal parking - Cork transport chiefs
Transport chiefs in Cork city have ruled out the reintroduction of towing to tackle persistent illegal parking in bus or bike lanes.

officials said the council terminated its previous tow-away regime in 2011 following a public backlash and on cost-grounds.

“This regime was terminated as it was not a cost-effective arrangement to manage the on-street parking facilities in the city and more importantly it created a negative perception of the city and the city’s strategy of encouraging people to shop, socialise and work in the city with the consequential impact on traders and businesses,” the response said.

it's like someone who is standing in front of an open goal, with the ball at their feet, insisting on studying the entire history of ball sports and the physics and mechanics of flight and ballistics, before they decide they're qualified to just kick the ****ing ball into the net.

Only it's not really an open goal - there's a giant beast of a goalie, in the form of private car dependency, backed up by a powerful lobby of well-connected elites who own and operate private car parks around the city. (And that's not even tinfoil hat stuff, it's exactly how it is.)

following on from the gardai telling cyclists not to upload videos of bad driving, this one is a genuine head scratcher - and it's not the gardai themselves behind it. though as it's behind a paywall, i can't see what the reasoning is:

Gardaí are told to switch off number plate ID cameras
    https://www.businesspost.ie/ireland/gardai-are-told-to-switch-off-number-plate-id-cameras-5a0b7709

how could there be an objection to examining a piece of information which is legally required to be displayed prominently on a car, where the information they are trying to glean about that car (from a distance) must also be displayed, albeit not as prominently?

Sounds like someone on a solo run to me, and probably not the Data Protection Commissioner in light of the DPC's comments on AGS threats re posting driver muppetry on Twitter. Can't see the article either, but if followed to its logicatl conclusion, surely this would have implications for the M50 and other toll schemes not to mention just about every petrol station in the country?

Would it affect the "average speed" monitoring in the Dublin Port Tunnel?

Was out for a lunchtime ride earlier where I was doing around 40kph on one of my local roads and I got overtaken on a solid white line blind bend and hill.

He was out on the opposite side of the road with literally no way to know he would not meet a car or truck (lots of construction going on in the area) head on doing 60-80kph.

I guess if he had met some something, I probably wouldn't be sitting here typing this.

    Mind..... blown......

Edit: Sorry Mods, meant to post in Near Misses
