Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

It's my gammy knees that are the bigger problem. :p

Bought the 'Die Hard' collection and 'It's a Wonderful Life' on DVD in Golden Discs today, so I don't need to be at the mercy of the TV schedules.
Since I don't have Sky, it's the only way I'll see them!

A bit of Christmas made it to the Academy Awards:
Klaus just got an Oscar nomination for Best animated feature !

I have not seen it, yet. Those who have, what did you think?

  • Moderators, Social & Fun Moderators, Regional East Moderators, Regional North West Moderators Posts: 12,328 Mod ✭✭✭✭miamee

I thought it was really beautifully animated and I loved the story too. Another forum regular said their kids didn't think too much of it so maybe it was aimed at bigger kids like ourselves :pac:

Klaus was brilliant! Could be added to the category of 'watch every Christmas' for me.

Mentioned it a few pages ago, Kluas is a instant classic and as Posy notes will be on the list every Christmas.

Im jealous of people watching it for the first time, that's how good I think it is. I love animated or childish Christmas movies, I know they are all childish in a way. My OH hates stuff like elf and the snowman however really liked this one.

Haven't seen it myself either. The Mrs & the kids watched it before christmas & IIRC said they enjoyed it.

For me it'll have to wait until the build up to Christmas before I watch it though, am done with Christmas music & films etc until later in the year.

Keira is to play the wife at the heart of the film and her husband has yet to be cast

Hi! I don’t read all the messages and maybe somebody has mentioned already this film. But I like “Joyeux Noel (2005)” a lot. It doesn’t help to feel the Christmas spirit as “Home Alone” or “Die hard” but has its own precious.

Had never heard of this book, but had a look at the reviews and ended up ordering all 3 Matt haig Christmas books after reading about them. Reckon the kids will love them.

    The Christmas Chronicles 2
"Kurt Russell reprises his role as Santa from the 2018 Christmas Chronicles film, in a sequel that’s due in 2020. This time, Chris Columbus takes over from Clay Kaytis. Goldie Hawn is returning too, and the film is due on Netflix at the end of 2020."

I love hearing about new movies, I havent seen gangs of London, and did not think the Christmas Chronicles was any great shakes however they still stir excitement. I am still raging at a Very Murray Christmas, possibly the worst Christmasy thing ever produced.

I love Bill Murray, but have to agree that Christmas 'thing' was garbage.

We enjoyed the Christmas Chronicles so wouldn't mind seeing a sequel.

No haven't bother either, partly been pretty busy the last week or so, partly forgot about it and partly not a massive fan.

Did come across Muppets Christmas Carol on Disney+ last night when looking for a movie to watch with the missus, was tempted however will save it for a rainy afternoon with the kids.

I really don’t bother with the Hallmark style Christmas movies. Once you’ve seen one you’ve seen them all.

They’re a niche and they thrive off it.

I might watch one, or maybe two, over the Christmas, but that would be it.

    They are all pretty formulaic.
High powered New York lawyer goes to small snowy mountain town under some flimsy premise. She's engaged, but it's to a horrible creep (insert scene of him flirting with other women, being a sexist pig etc) so that makes it okay when she falls for hunky local ski lodge owner who conveniently recently lost his wife in an avalanche etc etc... The movie will end on Christmas day when Ski Lodge presents her with an engagement ring. Of course she says yes, even though there is not a lot of legal work in a town with a population of 112, not to mention that they just met 6 days ago.

And of course in those small towns they’ve no need for fancy contracts all their deals are sealed with a good old fashioned handshake.
