Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Glad to see the judges aren't listening to the Sky commentators. Katie won 7 rounds fairly clearly IMO.

I'd comfortably give her 4 rounds clean but nowhere near 7

I had no sound, what was the score given by the judges

    98-93 96-94 96-94

The refs look for quality I guess more so than work rate

    No she actually won.

    16 from 16.

I've said it many times but there are seriously issues with the judging or the point system of the sport if professional judges are so widely apart in their scoring.

I tell you one thing though, if you ever need a hole dug to Australia then Persoon is your woman. She is absolutely relentless. You would have to think that she would be suited to one of the more stamina based sports like rowing or something.

You’re very defensive. You were having a go at some lad a while ago for not wanting her to win. Anyone without blinkers on could see she didn’t win that by 5 rounds FFS

    Defensive?

No, I prefer some actual analysis, that is all..

Anyway, you seem not to have it..

I had Taylor by 3 or 4 personally. Persoon was hitting shoulders and arms a lot. Some engine on her and she left everything in there but she was outboxed I think.

I'm confused, don't know much about boxing but watched most of that fight and your one smashed Katie... no?

Guess they had to protect the golden goose.

If we seen Katie do to Persoon what Persoon did to Katie there. Katie would have won by a massive margin.

    Great respect from Persoon there.

If the bruises And swelling tell a story Katie won well!

Persoon won’t be on any catwalk tommorow!

Persons face is way more damaged than katies

I didn’t post once during the fight cause I was watching it. Does that invalidate my opinion?

What did she actually land? She barely landed a clean shot. She just threw so many punches that a small few of them leaked through. When Katie threw, she usually connected.

Not sure it was too much of a dig, she said something along the lines of if you don't catch and hurt her she is gone too.

Not really. A lot of pressure but not much clean work landing from persoon. Katie had much more quality punches land.

    I had Katie winning 7-3, maybe 6-4.

She definitely won. The betting exchanges had her odds on at the end.

Persoon is incredibly tough. Nothing but respect for her. Her desire is incredible.

You don’t get points for the volume of punches you throw or for hitting arms.

There you go again. It’s funny that half the Sky panel had Persoon winning but you’d know a lot more than them I’m sure. Fight coulda even been called either way. Telling analysis from Joshua.

Person was wrestling and punching while holding Katie down. Happened too often in the fight.

    Well done Katie.

Persoon probably made a nice sum of money too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 232 ✭✭Feenix

Shes not going to lose on points in New York & shes definitely not going to lose on points in Eddie Hearns back garden. Persoon is unlucky of course but she probably knew she had to stop her before letting it go to the judges.

    Sky commentators?...😅

    7-3 Taylor me.

Not bad from Katie. That time she spent boxing with Team GB has really paid off.

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,806 ✭✭✭corny

Womens boxing has a long way to go.

The Belgian girl was game but astonishingly crude and ineffective.

Taylor clearly has some ability but i'd be disappointed that for long spells she didn't know how to deal with her opponent.

Whoooo Hoooo !!!! Great win for Taylor. That first judge must have fallen asleep with that wide margin he gave.IMO I thought Persoon shaded it.

I was watching it on a dodgy stream with foreign commentary, which is perfect, as you don't have the influence of the commentators' opinion.

Did Sky commentators have Persoon in front? Because I can't see how she could have won it. Massive workrate, but very few punches landed cleanly. Katie's work cleaner and more eye-catching. Her defense was also vastly superior.

  • Registered Users Posts: 344 ✭✭ikeano29

Now, need Whyte to win inside the distance for a tasty double. Had katie on points

  • Registered Users Posts: 643 ✭✭✭REBELSAFC

I had Katie by 3. She started well and won the first two comfortably enough then went 3-1 up. It would have taken a huge improvement from Persoon to win the last 6 rounds by clear three rounds and while she came back into it a bit, she didn't win any rounds that clearly.

That's possibly the most embarrassing take yet.

Last I checked boxing scoring was about technique and actually landing clean shots.

Persoon swung her arms like a windmill and walked forward like the Terminator, but all she hit was arms and air. Quality, not quantity.

    7-3 Taylor me.

Why the **** would I have a card? I’m not sitting ringside scoring the fight. Show us your card there.

Ah yeah, sure I’m sure walshb from boards knows more about boxing than Anthony Joshua.

    Keep your cacks on..

Sweet Caroline kicking off. It’s Saturday night..

    Let the hair down..

    PM your card later!!

Thought Taylor won quite clearly in the end.

Big big performance out of her in rd 9 and 10 to seal the win.

I felt the ref was quite poor throughout.

Allowed too much hitting while holding the back of the head and definitely could have called a low blow or two all perpetrated by persoon. He also managed to allow persoon to jump straight back up off the canvas in rd10 and start firing back without dusting off her gloves. Minor enough but definitely noticeable.

The judges obviously prefer quality to quantity, I don't know much about boxing but Persoon looked like she had it won after 8 rounds. The 10th was edge of the seat stuff.
Would like to see punches landed v punches thrown.

Only asking the folks who can’t accept the verdict to explain why..

Anyway, Whyte up now. Taylor fight over and done.

    7-3 Katie..

    I have Persoon 3 rds..

Katie far cleaner, and landed the most shots in 7 rds..

I remember way back a judge scoring the Leonard - Hagler bout 118–110.
History is littered with lopsided judging.

    7-3 ? not for me

Katie won 2 rounds at best from the 4th on 5-5
