Its his Grandfather than gives him that suberb talent and sporting prowess.

    .Raymond Poulidor brilliant road racer

And his world champion father! RP is his mothers' father, he has it from both sides.

I would say its his mother. Mitochondrial DNA pass from the mother. She has Raymond's DNA. Mix that with a bit of 'hocus pocus van der poel' and you should get a lot of bang in the new genetic mix.
Jon Vaughters spoke of this when saying Dan Martins DNA was better than Nicholas Roche, due to the Roche DNA link being on the Dan's mother's side. That is why he signed Dan! It's a fascinating area of genetics.

So Mathieu got it from his mother and David got it from his father?

Don't know nearly enough about genetics to know one way or the other, but I always called bs on JV on this (JV, bs-ing?). Totally ignored that Neil Martin was a decent cyclist, who is probably a case of coulda/ shoulda/ woulda gone top level pro. Certainly he would in the current era of UK cycling.

Nicolas Roche's DNA is very good too ..remember Nico is built big with a big upper body so doesnt have the climbing advantage of Dan or his father who are alot smaller. Finds it hard to get below 70Kg while Roglic & Froome are 65Kg max and Quintana,MAL& co are 58/59 KG max

Done very well given that handicap.Prove good genetics for me

Why is there such a huge difference between the length of the mens and womens race? It's crazy such a huge difference.

It wS never implied that Nico does not have good genes. The theory says Dan has a better genetic make up. I cant prove or disprove. Nico would have a disadvantage in terms of weight for sure but it's not just about weight advantage.

This sounds like a piss take answer but when you think about it it does make sense.

I presume there is more to it than that as the women’s junior race is only 91.5km compared with men’s junior race of 144.5km (almost same as women’s senior race).

Eurosport 2 has it. Unsure though if British/Irish version has it too.

He wouldn't have much form though - I think he hasn't raced for ages. Presume he can't train properly either if his knee isn't up for racing.

Neither Dennis nor Campennarts have raced in an age as well

Rohan Dennis won't be riding a Merida for the ITT. I recall when Ryan Mullen moved to Trek him commenting on the quality of the bikes being better. Dennis will likely be on a BMC for the ITT.

I know there was a piece last year on cycling news or another site which basically said trek, bmc and specialised were at least 2 steps ahead of the rest in terms of the hardware at WT level.

15:30 I see. Wasnt sire if the list of start times I was looking at had been changed but seems it has. Am interested to see how Lisa Norden goes! Only realised recently she won both tt and road swedish titles! Not bad for a triathlete ;)
