Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. I haven't worn a watch in over ten years, have no need just glance at my phone for the time.

But been thinking lately about treating myself to a fancy one for old times sake, a TAG Heuer maybe

    are watches naff?

I treated myself to an Apple Watch for Christmas. Love it. Before that I had a nice wristwatch that is now “held” in a safe as it is worth quite a bit of money.

I've worn watches most of my life, feels weird not wearing them. Was lucky enough to win an Apple watch about a year and a bit ago and it's very useful over all.

Gave it up for years until I got a smartwatch couple of years ago. Like to keep track of how much I'm walking and it is actually handier to check your wrist than pull out your phone.

I’ve only gotten into watches since the first lockdown. Since then I’ve bought and sold 4 watches.

Apple watch. Would never wear a normal watch, fairly pointless.

I wear an Apple Watch everyday. It’s handy for tracking steps/exercise and paying for things!

I would say there has been a watch on my wrist 99.9% of days since I was about 10.

I voted yes but it's a fitbit smartwatch, so not sure if that counts.

So when does this get moved to the Apple lovers forum...

Just my Garmin Fenix myself. Have a nice collection of Tag's from before my fitness midlife crisis and I will be hopefully handing them onto my son's in years to come... of course they won't appreciate them and will want a poxy Apple watch no doubt

I could never get use to the feel of them

    huh?
Personally, I want a watch, not a smart phone I need to charge constantly,
I have a smart phone for that. Id consider a watch with a digital face I could change the look of, but really I prefer a watch to be a watch.
My son was given a fitbit against my wishes, got bored of charging it I think, he doesn't need those features imo,
This morning he put on the cheap and cheerful Casio F-91W I got him for Xmas and was happy with it.

Ive a few watches, usually wear a cheap casio to work for a few reasons

each to their own, but I dont understand the interest in smart watches myself

Not wearing a watch feels incredibly odd to me.

I have a garmin running watch on most of the time as it’s handy for recording exercise.

My preference though be for a big chunky Casio G Shock.

I like feel a weight on my arm.

I know we all have smartphones these days but I couldn’t be without a watch on.

I have a small fitness tracker watch. I'm not keen on having something around my wrist. I wouldn't be able to deal with a large watch. So don't be bothering buy me a rolex for my birthday this year folks.

Yeah I'm also another one in the 'feels weird without a watch' camp - I find myself looking at a blank wrist constantly when I don't have one on!

Really don't like relying on a phone. As soon as I look at one for the time, I then see all those other notifications and before you know it, you're sucked into reading messages etc.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,239 ✭✭✭saabsaab

Wouldn't feel dressed without one. Smartphones need charging regularly your watch tells time for years!

    Constantly wear a swatch watch.
Black , no frills and no fear of breaking it futering about. When the strap broke I was completely lost without it till I got another strap ( for 2.50 )
    Have another 'going out' watch.

Yep, I have been wearing a Fitbit for the past 2 years or so.

Before that, I wore classic digital Casios like this one. Loved everything about them - simple, affordable, functional, understated. Lovely little machines.

I've actually stopped in the last few because the baby has managed to scratch himself off it a couple of times. I don't feel right leaving the house without it tbh. Needs a service though which I've been procrastinating on. . . .

Absolutely. Love watches and always have. I only wear analogue watches as I love their appearance and craftmanship. You just don't get the same with a digital screen even though that's a much more accurate option. I think an old school watch looks a lot better than whatever wrist-mounted iNonsense Apple are flogging these days.

I tend to wear a watch. I've spend north of 30,000 euro on watches, so it would be a shame if I didn't wear them occasionally. I am now on the hunt for a two tone stainless steel and gold Rolex Daytona ref number 16523, which will probably be worn very rarely. It's a disease.

Apple watches always catch my eye when I see people wearing them simply because they're so bland looking. They really look out of place on a wrist imo, just don't sit right.

I got into wearing one last year again and plan on buying another one or two.
However I rarely check the time on it.

It's just a black square. Stylistically, I don't see the point. The remote control for your phone thing just suggests that Apple is out of ideas at this point.

Not one of the major brands like a Rolex or anything.

    Second hand watches ?

No seriously be careful. I once bought a watch that didn't have an hour hand.

Bastard sold it to me at noon.

I always liked wearing a watch, I've worn a Citizen Eco Drive chronograph for years, a two tone silver/gold watch....very nice. But then when Apple released the Apple Watch I got my cousin to order it in the US and ship it (she's in New Jersey). I went for the stainless steel watch with the stainless steel band, cost me $1100 at the time but I'm on a newer watch now and the stainless steel band still looks very smart....it was pricey but hey, we work hard enough don't we!! :)

I did until last year. If I can't be bothered shaving every day for the tiny number of people I may meet in work I'm not going to bother with a watch

The two I usually wore were Pulsars, both need new batteries now and I don't have the grippy-thing to open the back; and one needs a new clasp-style-thing that connects the segmented strap to the actual watch so neither would be any use until jewelers reopen.

Keep intending get one with an old style flight computer built in, Seiko probably, just for the hell of it.
