Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

My point was adverts generate suspicion to a certain degree because we know someone is trying to sell us something.

Adverts that have a clear racial overtone are worse because what exactly is being sold to us and what happens if you mention it like you might other ads? You could be called a racist.

Not a big deal for most of us I guess, but if you're in arts/ entertainment / public eye etc, you could have your working life seriously impacted. And for what? For nothing.

You'll only see a 'clear racial overtone' in an ad if you're looking for it. If there's an ad with 10 white people it's just an ad but if there's a black guy in it there's something suspicious?

The flips side, though, is where you see a host of ads where you see a husband/wife routine, and the husband is shown as a complete moron. I've seen a couple of insurance ads recently, all from the same company, where the wife is exasperated at the overly idiotic behavior of her husband.

It's like all the ads that were around in the 50s/60s showing women as clueless or beauty pieces, and the men as being all-wise, excellent, etc. There seems to be a lot of ads these days showing men as total muppets.

Would be interesting if they ran a 'minority' male so to speak in such ads how they would get the hate directed at them and ban it within 24 hours.

I think cranking at advertisements being a bit woke is lame enough. The concept of advertising has always been discriminatory insofar as its' mere existence is to expose a product to a wider customer base. By all means necessary.

I saw some posters complaining about multiracial advertisements, I don't really get what is so woke about having a television advertisement campaign which involves multi-ethnicities ? It make perfect commercial sense to me.

What marketing directors need to be careful of, is that don't bite off more market share than they can chew? The reality is that a lot more caucasian men ( oops sorry WOmens) will be purchasing Levi's or Tommy Hilfiger Jeans and jock-style jumpers than will gangster types from Slough, Bradford, Sau Palo or Compton? Common sense is required in the marketing boardroom or I will be required to fire your ass... no matter how well it looks in those jeans.

Marketing directors cannot afford to get their asses fired, their asses are on the line all the time, they need to move their ass and get with the times. They need to shift their asses and make those jeans fit ( their asses ).

Not sure if that would be interesting at all really, it would be seen as 'punching down', which is never funny, it just comes across as bullying.

If you're young, ask an 'oldie' about 'punch down' specialists such as Bernard Manning and Jim Davidson.

Though I'm told that Les Dawson's mother-in-law jokes were quite good, which is 'punching up' of course.

I said suspicious of intent - not suspicious of content. You either struggle with comprehension or you wilfully misinterpreted what I wrote.

Given Wokies religious fervour with regards to social justice, I'll go with option B.

    Nice try.

Nah. I clearly remember that kinda stuff from years ago. It's an old comedy trope that goes back years. Eric Sykes and Hattie Jacques were doing it in the 60's. Terry and June (and nearly every other comedy show) in the 70's. It's just an extension of the old straight man/funny man act for a 2 minute commercial.

Not forgetting 'Fawlty Towers' - 1975 to 1979 - where Sybil runs rings around Basil every time, so no, not a new thing at all.

Guys, I'm not suggesting that it was a new thing.. nor am I talking about comedy sketches. I'm referring to the advertisements. I know it's been around for a long time.. I was simply referring to how many ads seem to be doing it these days. Yes, there's always been ads of that type, but it appeared (to me) that there were more now than before (or perhaps there's less showing the woman as being an idiot, and therefore the moronic guy is more noticeable.)

Irish writer recently spoke out against the woke members of the writing industry.
The Irish author was one of 150 authors, academics and journalists to sign a letter in Harper’s Magazine in October criticising “a new set of moral attitudes and political commitments that tend to weaken our norms of open debate and toleration of differences in favour of ideological conformity”.
“I despise this ‘woke’ movement. Why were they asleep for so long? The same injustices were going on. It’s become a religious cult. You see people kneeling in the street, holding up their fists – that’s not going to do anything for black people.

“Black people or transgender people should not be given a special place. They should be given the same treatment as the rest of us. God, I can hear the Twitter comments going already. Do I care? Absolutely not.”

    https://www.irishtimes.com/culture/books/banville-criticised-by-fellow-booker-winner-for-saying-he-despises-woke-movement-1.4424788

So, that's Tech and the Literary industries that are being hijacked by this cult.

I wonder though if there is a co-relation between woke and mediocrity? Beneath the virtue signalling and rigorous finger-wagging, there appears to be an element of desperation.

C'mon man, you're falling behind. You need to pull up your socks. You're like Father Jack in the corner there.

He didn't mention either of the Big4 accounting firms who he insinuated were introducing an SOP on language based on gender and or gender preference, with a particular emphasis on balanced gender plurals.

He did mention the " F " company, which I assumed to be Facebook? But if I am going to suss on free speech fascism, I think the fact that the poster was afraid of mentioning FACEBOOK, as being a company influencing the communications strategy of a multinational accounting practice..... then I think we can safely announce, that a new low as been acquired as regards online freedom of expression.

If one of the only 4 BIG4 accounting firms are pandering to FACEBOOK as regards their approach to a tactful communications strategy, then I feel it is travesty for Financial Objectivity and I also think Harcourt street and every glorified Manager, Director and Partner working therein need to be wholly ashamed of themselves.

The purpose of having an auditor is to ensure that best financial practice is being employed, to ascertain that external investment is a going concern? It is not to cow down to a gang of overpaid rich ( wokish )chunts living in and around Silicon valley, I would hope.

I am in a rush, so apologies for any poor placement of commas above, I love you all.

    Happy Christmas.

PS - the sooner we cancel all Father Ted references as being some sort of indication or hint of a sense of humour the better. Not because slagging off alcoholic priests is woke... but because whilst Father Ted is quite an enjoyable sitcom which has managed to stand the test of time, it only highlights a deficit in ones' bland sense of humour when they feel compelled to use it as some sort of stick to bash and patronise other posters with for starters? I get a better laugh watching Dinny, Richard and Miley bicker around the cold streets of Glenroe, or indeed watching Mary and Biddy invading the underwear section of Penneys to buy sexy bras then I ever got laughing at weekly catchphrases like " ah ya will " or whatever that phucking drunk priest used to spout, I have forgotten now. Both Frasier and Cheers are miles better anyways - for starters.

It’s impressive that anyone still takes these auditing firms, and “rating” agencies, seriously after the last crash.

Anyway, anyone who deals with these guys on an annual basis knows the “score”. They haven’t a clue so you tell them what they need to look at and then provide exactly that. Leaving out any potential “bananas skins” that aren’t that important but they’ll spend weeks trying to understand.

    s.

The ' Big 4 ' also provide other business services which can involve contract staff on-site in any of the big tech firms. Those staff are effectively working for that company and subject to the same rules and cultural dynamics. Although I don't have any direct knowledge myself, in this instance, the comment strikes me as entirely plausible.

Indeed. Rating agencies, economists and the like, all tend to be part of the woo broscience that middle management love to wheel out at powerpoint parties, but are remarkably crap at predicting the future. Nice work if you can get it though as it usually carries a big pricetag.

From Socrates to Plato, to Seneca. From the enlightenment to the Scientific Method, from the industrial revolution to Nietzsche to the transistor, to food security to the digital revolution....to the data analytics tools that are making this global pandemic a fraction of the disaster it would have been otherwise...all the countless fruits of the rational bro-mind - to all the broscience.

This Xmas we should take a moment to be grateful to the all bros, past and present who do great work so that we can all enjoy a comfortable life of self-actualising. Even if that means some will whine and complain about diversity and toxic masculinity.... while not contributing very much themselves....I guess its a small price to pay. A bro is a creature of burden among other things...so he will shoulder these flourishes of woke-ism without flinching too much. He knows that hard times create strong men, strong men create good times, good times create woke men...woke men create hard times...hard times create strong men....etc, etc - all part of the cycle of life.

Merry Xmas and thanks to all the bros :)
