No sign of that positive case being reported yet?

Apparently, if the person being treated isn't from Kerry, it shows up in other counties' cases, so if it doesn't appear today, that'll probably be why.

Up to date with the county figures now, and Kerry remains on 310 since the 20th.

That's disappointing but hopefully a once off.

Unlikely it will be a once-off.

Influx of people from the cities, UK and US in the coming weeks along with the re-opening of many businesses means its inevitable there will be an increase in cases.

Coming weeks? In Dingle today, pis*ing down rain, shopping places packed, very few wearing masks or socially distancing, and lots of US accents. AFAIK one family member can do the shopping, but the shops had full families. No masks of course. 14 day isolation me hole.

Back to 310 today - given yesterday was the first change in 17 days, this suggests it was quickly found to be a false positive.

Are there flights coming into the country from the US?

Yes, Dublin later this morning from Dallas.
Texas broke the record for the most cases in a day the other day.
Are we ever going to learn ?

I'm absolutely heartbroken to hear of American tourists coming here at the moment.
We have spent months not seeing our friends, family, many of us have lost jobs etc etc. Not to mention the loss of life and the illness those who have survived have experienced.
The virus also put many of our health care workers to the pin of their collar.
I of course have nothing against Americans, I have family on both sides living there whom I love dearly but when American is so hot with the virus at the minute, it's absolutely playing roulette not prohibiting non cargo flights from there into Ireland at the minute.

We will have round 2 of covid 19 in the coming weeks.

That's what absolutely breaks my heart.
I feel so sad for the front line health workers. I wonder if they feel angry.

Killarney is mobbed again with tourists. My wife works in retail in town and she said talking to some American customers they are flying to UK and getting ferry or driving down from north in rental cars. It was announced yesterday that people coming from abroad to NI wont have to quarantine anymore, they obviously weren't anyway.

What we are doing is all for nothing if that's the case. The countries borders should have been shut long ago and stayed shut until this passes.

They have every right to feel angry.
They are being let down by the politicians again.
All that effort for nothing 😡

We decided to visit Ballybunion yesterday evening, and there was zero social distancing and I think I spotted one mask, but it could have been a trick of the light. There looked to be about 15 people standing in a chipper queue, all about three inches away from each other, and "flocks" of people and kids wandering around. It was like none of them had even heard about the virus, or couldn't give a toss if they had.

With my wife being vulnerable with no immune system, we decided not to risk even getting out of the car, and took off home again.

Things in Kerry weren't too bad until the tourists started arriving in large numbers, there's a phenomenal number of UK reg cars and camper-vans all over the place, in addition to all the Americans who snuck in through the back door.

Things don't bode too well for the aftermath when they've all cleared off.

We're just back from a week long road trip and were surprised at the lack of social distancing, masks and etiquette compared to what we have gotten used to where we're from.

Nothing will change until Gardai get the power to enforce the rules & we restrict our Airports & Ports on who can get into the country,

Mile long tailbacks outside Adare this evening Kerry-bound.

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,461 ✭✭✭dobman88

I've a friend in Dublin whose mother has a friend visiting from Florida. First place they plan to visit? Kerry. Florida has seen a massive surge in cases and is one of the worst affected areas. This person wont be quarantining.

Gardai will be raiding pubs and local businesses this weekend but tourists from countries with cases surging upwards are being flown here by the plane load. It's ridiculous.

I'd say your a good person to make an old comment yourself with your 54,000 posts there JP.

    What's your own opinion?

"Very soon we are going to Mars. You wouldn't have been going to Mars if my opponent won, that I can tell you. You wouldn't even be thinking about it."

Trump has closed the US off for us, so why can't we do the same here or at least strict quarantine and testing at the airports which the holidayers can pay for themselves

I'm not sure if you're trolling after the Healy Rae comment but I actually agree with this. Close off flights from the US should be happening. Allow flights that followed a similar or more strict lockdown system than ourselves and have suppressed the virus somewhat

No I am not trolling about Healy Raes just curious if they made any comment, I saw Michael on with Matt Cooper during the week and he said pubs and restaurants in Kerry were all adhering well to the rules social distance etc., but I missed if he was asked or talked about the Yanks in Kerry

I just think if Trump can close off to us, why we can't do the same to the US as cases are rising there again

Fair enough, I agree. I'd have a total ban on international travel. I saw a tweet earlier that I cant find now and its said when the foot and mouth outbreak happened the border was well policed, same should be happening now.

It's so frustrating, I live in Meath and havent been home since February to see my parents and family. But plane loads of people are coming here. And all we are doing is say, have a €9 meal if you go for a pint. Priorities eh

Just wondering, if you go for a meal in a pub without a booking, are they still meant to take your contact details?

We ate a meal in a bar in Killarney on Wednesday and it only dawned on me yesterday that they didn’t ask us for any details. It was just me, my husband and our 4 year old but I thought they were meant to take details? Maybe I’m wrong as they probably don’t in cafes etc.

It's already started. It will take a couple of weeks for cases to become symptomatic and diagnosed. Such a pity after a massive effort in Kerry

    That's very frustrating!

We went to Killarney on Wednesday afternoon and spotted a group of about 8 young people around 19/20 trying to get into various pubs. They seemed to be turned away from most.

Frustrating doesnt even begin to describe it for me. From a selfish point of view, I've missed out on so much in the last few months. "Holding tough" has been bloody tough. I'd have been home every few weeks usually and you dont realise how much it's taken for granted until it's gone.

I do have some sympathy for the younger crowd but guidelines are there for a reason, even if they make little sense and are contradictory. It's the travel that will do most of the damage again though, not local people looking for a pint
