Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Is this race going ahead this year? For some reason I have the idea in my head that it's cancelled for this year.

Its on the Athletics Ireland fixtures list for the 1st of December. No link on Donore Harriers website for entry yet though.

AFAIK, weather permitting, this race is definitely going ahead. Jingle bells gets the big numbers so shouldn't run into the problems that the summer race did.

Ah ok, that rings a bell alright (pun intended). I was thinking there was some race that had been cancelled and I think it was the Summer 5k.

That's the route they used in 2010 (when ice ruled out the older route). Pretty fast, I think, with a net downhill, but you'd want to have someone to hide behind if the wind on Chesterfield is against you...

It's actually the course which has been used for the last 2 years since the snow and ice of 2010 as RayCun correctly points out. Seems to have got favourable reviews.

Entries are open as of last week, link within the following page: http://www.donoreharriers.com/home_nav_9.html

Looks like a fast course.Hopefully it gets well suported by other clubs.

  • Registered Users Posts: 327 ✭✭The_Boy_Wonder

Not long to go before this one. I've signed up for this and will be hoping to go sub 20 for the first time. With a net downhill I'm hoping to crack it this time

I wonder will numbers be down on previous years with the availability of the 5k each weekend with the Parkrun in Malahide.

Not been killing myself training since marathon season by a long shot, so not expecting anything massive, but would be nice to get 20.59 or something - but thats a bit rich based on my few weeks of 3 to 4 days a week of plodding :pac:

I registered on Friday last, but after close of business, will my number still be posted out?

    Yes.

There will be a van positioned close to the start area to take back
light gear to the finish area. You must be able to identify your own kit however and Donore Harriers will not be held responsible for any missing items.

Looking forward to this now. First run since the Great Ireland run. Looks a nice flat course too. Where would be the best place to park if coming from the Southside?

Thanks to the sweet downhill near the end, I smashed my PB by 45 sec. New PB is 18:10. I cannot believe it.

Very enjoyable race. I nearly forgot about my chip and only happened to see the bucket for them by accident - it was a pleasant surprise to not be assaulted by someone trying to get the chip off me.

I was able to park my bike on the steps beside the finish line - very cool. Now I have to go back there as I think I dropped my Garmin HRM strap there.

My 1st Jingle Bells and won't be my last. Well organised and perfect conditions.
I ran a PB 19:27 and my 12 yr old ran her 1st 5k in 27:00. Both delighted!

anyone come across any video footage of the race? Amazing what you would do just to see a one second clip of yourself running past a shaky camera!

I found one video on youtube with a guy wearing a head cam the whole way round but i'm not in it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hHJFTnNZLKE

    Anyone got any others?

Would I be a terrible parent if I forced my 11 year old son out on a freezing cold December morning to take a bit of video footage as I ran past in the race!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 151 ✭✭ac20

very enjoyable and well organised race. An unexpected PB for me 21.08, wasnt expecting that at all. Nice touch with the mug for all participants and a great day weatherwise for running.

By any chance did anyone come across a Garmin 110 after the race?
One of my clubmates lost one, possibly near the clubhouse....

Any truth in the runour that this guy was on skates...

No truth to that. I saw the guy pass over the finish line myself and there was no skates. You can see some slight up and down movement in the vid but pretty steady otherwise.
