how are people still scrabbling around for coins to pay for parking? get the app ffs :D

That app is a money suck, minimum top up of ten euro and kicks in when your balance is at 10 euro, plus a charge for the text reminders. Ugh. I keep it for emergencies but i don't park enough/for long enough for it to be of any real benefit.

You can park on the website to avoid the 10 top-up.

Yes, as soon as they made website squatting illegal, they put meters on the website and charged anyone who wanted to park themselves there.
Surfers however can still freely avail of these websites.
    Many surfers are also cyclists.

you think that's bad, they're putting one on Kill Avenue between the IADT entrance and the church exit, pure stupidity
citizens only get to realise the stupidity and ignorance which highlights their incompetance
whilst taking a large pay packet.
you are too smart to get a high paid job like that as you would consider the
Main uses and factual outcome of changes.
Since a child Bray traffic has been a mess and now near 60 it is the same, whilst
some have taken the job and walked away with large pay.
you elect the cretins with no sanctions when they fail.

You can't be saying things like that about the parking app, people could find it offensive :D

Plus, is there a 50c per month "maintenance" charge??

But then you will have people giving out that they got a fine as their parking ecxpired and they couldn’t make it back.

It also costs money to provide and maintain the machines for the dinosaurs who can’t with use an App

Or maybe for those very savvy app users, who can see the rip off that this particular app is???

rip off? explain that to me please, unless having 10 euro of your working capital tied up counts as being ripped off?

As reluctant as I am to engage in this slightly ridiculous tit for tat debate....

as per above - how is it a rip off?

Doesn't cost to buy from the app store.
    Doesn't charge a maintenance fee.
Disable the reminder and there's no payment other than for parking.
You can pay for parking remotely, which is a HUGE advantage over machines, be they tap or coin ones.

I am really mystified by some attitudes!

Hi Hedi, you might read the FAQ's on the parking tag site on charges:

    Registered Accounts

Per vehicle, monthly maintenance fee €0.50 + VAT
    Optional SMS reminder €0.20
    One-off payments
    Per transaction fee* €0.20 +VAT
Optional SMS reminder €0.20 *Fee may not apply to all locations

    Charge-to-mobile
    Per transaction fee €0.20 +VAT
    SMS reminder €0.20

Good description above a "money suck".

Which is very easily clawed back through cheaper charges and the ability to park for the exact amount of minutes.

~€15 a year for two registered cars, before you do any parking, that is surprising. Thanks for the tip-off.

In the most anal thread going I will get a bit anal and say the phrase "before you do any parking" is wildly inaccurate here. #lovetheapp

can we please move on from the app please?

some people think it's great and find it handy (me included)
some people think it's not so great and are concerned about what they see as some sneaky charges

live & let live or take it to another thread

    Forgot about that!

Have only noticed the contactless payment option on some meters recently so I may just delete the app and go with this.

What's attendance at the 40 foot like these evenings? Thinking of heading down with the camera but prefer to avoid it when there's a lot of people about.

Weekends is usually busy, midweek I don't think so, especially with the level 5 goodness.
Give it a try now might be a nice sunset... the cold may keep people away ;-)
What kind of photography are you hoping to do

The cold attracts the hard core :pac: Going to do a few long exposure, see how they come out. The wind being up usually means interesting seas.
