Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

and thanks for the feedback :)

Actually that's just the next finalised one :) The next one will be this Sunday there just haven't been any suggestions as to where yet. We usually call it around one on Friday. If there have been no suggestions myself or one of the other admin pick a regular place and effectively close the voting. It's very much a community site so please feel free to suggest somewhere yourself.

Looking out the window now, somewhere indoors and city central would be preferable.

Im editing this as myself and a few other artists have got together to create a sketcher's group http://dublinsketchers.blogspot.com/

We each bring our own art materials and do quick sketches (pencil/ charcoal/) and a pick a different location to sketch every week (each member will get a chance to pick somewhere :)). There is no charge but you get all the benefits of working in a group.

We will start off by meeting on Sunday afternoons and will hopefully visit venues like the national art gallery/ iveagh gardens to sketch (for an hour or so) and then discuss our work over a coffee. The idea is to create an informal amateur sketch/ social group.

Anyhow have a look at the website as it will explain it better then me. Our first meeting is this Sunday (31-3-08).

Wow, I'd really like to give this a go once finals are over

how accomplished does one have to be to attend?
signed - not accomplished at all, but very interested

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,182 ✭✭✭Tiriel

hi there - you don't have to be accomplished at all - it's all about getting out there and giving it a go. Some people go once and decide it's not for them, but most people come along regularly! It's great in a way because it gives you confidence to sit and sketch when other people are doing the same, where as you wouldn't do it on your own.

Come along and join us - you are more than welcome. Next week will be the IMMA Kilmainham at 2pm until 5pm :) Hope to see you there! Bring a sketchpad and we'll recognise you!

Not that it's really THAT important but I'm just wondering what kind of age group the people that have been heading into this are?

Age group is very varied - goes from early-mid 20's right up to retirement! I'd say the average age would be in the late 20's/ early 30's. Pretty big cross-section of society, people from all walks of life and different skills/interests!

This week we are heading for Temple Bar at 1pm, opposite the Quay's pub in the Main Square. All are welcome to come along!

Hi, I've been reading about you're group and activities and Id be interested in coming along to one of your Sunday meetups to see what its like. I used to run an Arts and Expression society in my old University where we used to offer painting and sketching classes so def curious as to what the group has to offer. Im actually returning from Limerick tomorrow and I dont get in until 1pm. Would it be possible to wait round a few extra minutes till ten past/quarter past 1 and if not would it be possible to catch up with yee where ever you're planning on sketching tomorrow (or are yee staying at the gallery to sketch?)

    Hiya Brian,

Ya no worries just pop into the gallery when you arrive and you'll see us - we generally wander through the gallery and search for something to sketch for a couple of hours, then meet for coffees (3pm) to show our work and have a chat about it etc.

You're more than welcome to come along, bring a sketchpad and whatever you like to sketch with and see how you get on!

Hi , yeah the link is http://www.couchsurfing.org/group_read.html?gid=1105&post=3427524, I've just realised something though. The 1st actually a Saturday not a Sunday. Hmmm, ah well, if you dont mind a sketchers meet up on Saturday instead of Sunday I guess its ok. But I guess if you want to stick to Sunday we could always just head out there ourselves if others are up for it.Would be nice for landscapes. Guess its down to what others say.

We have to keep things straightforward for our members, Sunday's is our thing!! it's an idea though and we haven't gone out to Phoenix park in a while. It is very weather dependant, that's the only thing. Send an email to the sketchers email on the blog and I'll add you as a member - that way you can post on the blog - I'm the only one that checks boards really!

Either way, should be a good weekends sketching ahead - if I make it - I have Metallica on Sat nite :D

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 5 jimycraxcorn

Never mind sure, ill just leave it as an open air suggestion. If people have other suggestions on Sunday, Im cool with going along with that. Im going to this gathering on sat anyway so it doesnt matter too much. Btw sent a message on for membership of the blogspot. Anyway, enjoy Metallica on saturday.

Experience Japan is the location for this week - Farmleigh House, Phoenix Park! Here's hoping for some fine weather!! Sunday at 2pm!

Getting there by public transport: Take the number 37 bus from Hawkins Street to the Castleknock Gate. Enter the Phoenix Park and take the pedestrian pathway to your right. Following the directional signs, Farmleigh is a fifteen-minute walk from the Castleknock Gate. Car parking facilities are also available.

Everybody is welcome, have a sketchpad out if you haven't been sketching with us before and we'll make sure you're included!
