Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Curious little return on the radar sequence in the last few hours. A little rouge patch moving NNW from SW Wales into the Wicklow Mts before disappearing.

Are malevolent aliens now disguising themselves as radar returns in their relentless quest to take over our planet? :(.

Very interesting indeed, probably some sort of radar effect like anaprop as its directed right towards the Dublin Airport? ha

Its either that or one big massive plane ! ha

The anomaly was spotted in a known RAF exercise area. Maybe they dropped the parachute regiment out there tonight. :D

Convection been well underway since mid morning. Heavy showers developing in Connaught and west Leinster atm slowly moving eastward. Some of these should develop into thunderstorms for later this afternoon. Might see some hail too.:) A trough hugging the south coast is still fairly weak atm but will probably spark into life very soon.

The northern band mentioned by MT yesterday has sort of got going but the southern band he mentioned appears to be out over the Celtic sea and heading for Wales now.

Really intensified as it left the Wexford coast, a spark or too also. Have some photos, will post later.

I can confirm folks that we have 'Weather' in Collooney! There was some brief but torrential showers passing there for the past 30 mins or so. Couldn't tell if they was any thunder... other office staff won't let me open window to hear it.. lol
Haven't time to check the charts so would appreciate if someone could post the rain radar...
    Thanks

Off out to Howth! ... Some 4 cells currently on radar with 16mm echo returns on Met E ( probably even higher on rain today or Net weather . hopefully I'll get some shots of some cells as intense on Howth head! :S

    Over and out!! :D

Was out running and heard a few rumbles. Active enough cell to my east, off the Wexford Coast.

Showers evolving to thunderstorms for some as they approach east coast. Seferics appearing now.

Radar appearance over Kildare, Dublin, Meath, Louth suggests any of this complex of cells could briefly attain severe levels with hail, strong wind gusts and slight risk weak tornado. Keeping a close eye on it for any more definite signs of specific severe storm location, Dublin city will be hit around 3:15 pm by looks of current radar, intensity at least moderate showers and gusts to 35 mph, possibly more intense.

Spot on MT, in Dun Laoghaire on the South Dublin coast it went dark and overcast very quickly in the last 15 mins and is now raining moderately with very big pick up in the wind. No sparks ive noticed yet

Must be very early in your morning now MT?

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,327 ✭✭✭sunbabe08

there appears to be a line of showers heading towards in the south east.

Not too early, going on for 0800h here. Radar now shows fairly intense activity over north end of Westmeath heading in general direction of Athboy (4:15 pm) and Trim (4:40 pm) for any observers in that area, let us know what you're seeing.

Thanks, that confirms our suspicions of a severe storm developing, have already placed an alert in forecast section for north end of Westmeath, south-central Meath as this cell continues southeast (ESE) past Athboy and Trim. Any observations from around there will be very helpful. This activity is about 1.5-2 hours away from Dublin if it holds together.

It certainly is, main cell is moving ESE rapidly, it might get to Dublin a little earlier even than that. Without the mountains in the way it may still be very coherent, the northern half of Dublin County should get a drenching, will be interesting to await the level of special effects to go with it

Lashing down in buckets here in Trim, wind picked up unbelievably as well, bins knocked over etc.. Mental rain though!

Downpour of rain just started in Citywest Dublin 24....is this the beginning of that rain belt already here?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,357 ✭✭✭✭Larbre34

Unusually good definition of the cells on the radar, the 16+mm/hr cores are very clear

Been watching this coming in from the Airport. It's not too far away now.

This is taken facing North West of Dublin. Those clouds are gathering pace too. Kinda freaky looking!

Wonder how far into south dub this will effect. In dalkey now and already had a few heavy showers. But hard to tell from current radar how it will track.

I'm wondering the same in Dun Laoghaire, I thought earlier the north city and county would get the worst and thats still the case. Theres a slight division between the main cell and whats giving reported rain in Dublin 24, I'd almost bet that division will widen and the cells bypass South Dublin.

The returns arent looking as intense as they were reported in Meath. Can anyone confirm current rates?
