Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I was previously in a "family" on here that was disbanded, is there any hassle from Spotify in joining a new one?

I've heard from a "family member" that you can only join one family per year so it might depend on when you last joined one.

Still have the Thai spotify spot available, two members had to pull out as they don't have a VPN which sets to Thailand. You need a VPN to change your location to Thailand. then change your country on your free Spotify account, after which I will send you the email link to the spotify family, you no longer need the VPN past this point, 12 euro for the year. Pm me if interested.

    Folks!

What to do when the family starter gets the money and goes silent? I've a strange feeling I've thrown 30 quid down the drain.

(My previous family was set up with less hassle and more promptly.)
I simply can't believe my luck.

That particular user was active 2 days ago, he or she is also a long time user here and I doubt they rip someone off for a measly €30 tbh. I’m sure there’s a perfectly good explanation.

    1. Introduction

The Spotify Premium Family subscription (the “Premium Family Subscription”) is made available by Spotify, subject to these terms and conditions (the “Premium Family Terms and Conditions”), and in accordance with the Spotify Terms and Conditions of Use, which are hereby incorporated by reference. Capitalized terms used but not defined herein shall have the same meaning given to them in the Spotify Terms and Conditions of Use.

We use Google Maps address search to help you find and set your address. The address you enter upon activation or re-verification will be subject to the Google Maps Additional Terms of Service and Google Privacy Policy.

Spotify reserves the right to terminate or suspend access to the Spotify Premium Family service and the Spotify Premium Family account(s) immediately and at any time if you fail to meet the eligibility criteria and as otherwise set out in the Spotify Terms and Conditions of Use.

    3. Cancellation

You may cancel the Premium Family Subscription at any time by logging into your Spotify account and following the prompts on the Account page, or by clicking here and following the instructions. Hope not but it looks that way. If it links in with Google maps to get your registered home address it will at minimum be a pain in the ass and at worst impossible to get around.

I’ve seen a few people who’ve set up family accounts and they have only used single letters in each address fields, surely those will definitely be gone. The three different groups I’ve set up, I used real address for them all. If they are going to check google maps to verify the address is valid, then at least those addresses will show up. Also, from looking at my privacy settings for my location on the iPhone, Spotify doesn’t show up as looking to use my location.

Was good when it lasted if it is the end. Will see how it plays out. I may take out a sub anyway if it does go tits up. So used to having it now.

Or may see if there are offers on other services.

I subscribed to Youtube Premium last night and am paying in Indian rupees.

It includes Google Play Music which is their equivalent of Spotify.

Works out at €1.63 a month.

Did you give them an Indian address and did/do you need a VPN?

Yeah used VPN for India. Asked for a city which I ignored. Used Revolut as payment.

Just got an email about it. Looks like you will need to use a real address that google maps find either through location services or inputting manually.
Not sure if it will be be forced for present users. I can’t seem to use the new features yet though. Might be linked to that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,207 ✭✭✭maximoose

So I just need my subsidiaries to be in my address when they verify?

Or use one of the many many GPS faker apps....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,780 ✭✭✭JohnK

Surely if it's one you can input manually then an entire family could just agree to put any shopping centre / bar / restaurant etc. - it's not like they ever send mail out. I'd only be worried if they were using the actual GPS location of the device but I'd imagine that'd cause all sorts of headaches for legitimate families where someone is traveling or just away from home for a short period. But even then, you could always just start setting up local families with a common enough location that most people would be passing through on a regular enough basis like city centre.

Yeh I think it’s possible. It’s a google api. Like a delivery service. I just did not want to risk it. Don’t want to break mine. Maybe a new account could confirm it.
Put master address in manually. All the members can do the same.

If any are asked all they need to do is give my address, yeah?
    Or am I missing something?

Spotify through a browser is now asking me to confirm my address as I’m the plan owner. It opens up a page which links it to google maps addresses and as I type in my address, I have to find it from the drop down menu.

And could my family please pm me?

It doesn’t ask for access to my location, it just asks me to put in my address and then confirm it. I’m assuming then that after 30th Sept it will then start requesting my family members to confirm their address in the same manner. I’m not overly bother as one of my family has my wife and two kids in it along with my brother and sister, who live close by.

I did get my wife to log into her Spotify account via browser afterwards and she wasn’t asked to confirm anything just yet. I honestly can’t see how a location fixed system would work, do Spotify only expect us to only use their service at our home address

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,577 ✭✭✭✭TheDriver

My family all put their address in as mine. I can't help if all my family are renting houses at college elsewhere etc etc. I think they're looking for obvious irregularities but will quickly give up when everyone jumps ship to cheaper services elsewhere.

My family host kindly shared his address when setting up last year so I've been using his address ever since. Hopefully they don't go down the sophisticated GEO tracking solution. While I don't live a million miles away, I've never been within 100 metres of his house.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 241 ✭✭hankless

Yes just signed up for the duo account. It is all above board but as I'm in work I didn't allow it to Geo Track my location, so I manually entered it and was accepted.

Spotify don't know where you live. It runs on desktops, laptops etc that have no access to location services. They may ask the subsidiary accounts to confirm they're living at the address registered by the main account but if you click "yes" they've no way of knowing otherwise.

No but they'll know that the six accounts on the family plan have never shared the same IP address despite living under the same roof so can probably determine pretty easily accounts that are abusing the family plan

Not necessarily as if they all operate on 4G plans they’d all have different IP addresses anyway then.

I understood it as Spotify will ask the members for access to their Google maps app. In it you can set home, work addresses etc. If your home address doesn't match then they will kick you. So it would mean all members setting their home address in Google maps to the plan owners address which wouldn't be ideal.

They'll want to know what I had for breakfast next.
They can get lost if they want to know all that info.
I don't want to share my whereabouts with who knows who.

I doubt this is the case - I've never seen an app ask for that information and I'm not sure it can be shared from Google Maps.

The Spotify app could certainly ask for location access but it would be seriously tricky to get it working reliably to tie in to a specific address (I mostly use Spotify on the move, besides GPS is unreliable on a lot of phones); and anyone using it on a PC won't be able to provide location access in the first place.

The new address verification is a non issue. You can still put in a random address manually if you need to. It seems that none of my members had to verify yet.
So we are safe for now.

Same, besides my address is a real one so unless Spotify want to send a rep to the door and ask for everyone's ID they can bugger off.

The new T&C’s don’t come into effect till after 19th September, I don’t expect any member of my family to be asked to confirm details till after that date. I however as the plan owner have already been asked to confirm my address using google maps.

I don’t see an issue for those who have used a genuine address, it’s those people who have made up fictitious addresses will have an issue. I’ve already contacted a plan owner who used random letters in the address field in his plan advising him to change it to a real address and pass it on to his family members prior to 19th September, and I’d advise anyone else in same situation to do the same.

Guess there will be an increase in traffic soon with Vodafone ditching the free Spotify on their X plan mobile.
