Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Light drops of sleet in cork city now, surprising since the airport is reporting 7 degrees but it's sleet. Slightly blowing in the wind. Small drops though. Was very sunny earlier

Stunning morning in East Cork. Had one heavy shower pass through quickly around 9am but it's been clear blue skies since. Feeling very pleasant out of the wind too.

Very heavy hail shower here in South galway

  • Registered Users Posts: 419 ✭✭Tacklebox

Heavy sleet in North Clare now, there goes my day up the coast.
No way will i chance a drive, can get treacherous on some of those roads after heavy hail etc

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,904 ✭✭✭daheff

    But what’s the weather like?

its nice & sunny. windy & cold

one short sleet shower... back to sunny & wind

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,110 ✭✭✭✭cnocbui

I went for a short walk outside with the camera and it feels colder than the last snow event. The wind is fierce and goes right through you. My hands were in pain after just 5 minutes.

    Driving hail outside Limerick City

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,520 ✭✭✭An Ri rua

Heavy hail near Mountmellick. Would be tricky driving conditions. Weather quite erratic.
Snow flurries last night around 1230, after heavy sleet. Snow flurries again at 830am.
Slieve Bloom moderately covered in snow.

Very blustery here in South Co Limerick, there's a fierce wind chill with it, the sky looks to be threatening some sort of precipitation whatever form that will take as the day goes on

Blustery white gold shower in Newbridge

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 973 ✭✭✭mallards

Snowing constantly now near the Wicklow gap. Graupel type snow, turning the place white with the wind behind it. Only the mountain tops above 300m were covered this morning. That's changing rapidly.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,220 ✭✭✭pad199207

    It’s snowing and it’s 5c so that’s grand

    Science going out the window!!

    Most definitely, very strange

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,220 ✭✭✭pad199207

Those big convective cells really dragging down the precipitation. Snowing at stupid temperatures.

  • Registered Users Posts: 238 ✭✭Cw85

Big snow flakes falling in Carlow town now the ground is very wet after all the hail showers so not sticking as of yet

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,184 ✭✭✭Elmer Blooker

If only we could get a direct northerly blast rather than a watered down WNW'ly. :(
All those charts than Sryan posted in the statistics forum show that in past winters even an average winter (1950s and 60s) could deliver potent northerlies but it seems those days are gone, we haven't seen winter high latitude blocking in years as the Arctic ice shrinks and as ridiculous as this might sound I would almost write off next winter already. It seems to me that as the Arctic warms North America winters are getting more severe which of course fires up the North Atlantic. I feel that we need to see a recovery of Arctic ice in order to get an old fashioned winter!
Moan over and time to turn on the telly to get an update on Tuesday's storm on the week ahead forecast.

gone very dark here and a mix of wet hail snow sleet falling
    Ashford co wicklow

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,023 ✭✭✭Donegal Storm

I think a wintry mix best describes today in Letterkenny, hail, graupel, sleet and snow at various intervals. Nothing too interesting other than the brief downpours of large hail

Clear skies and sunny in Dublin. Cold and blustery obviously.

Hope the skies stay clear long enough to wrap up rugby training

Didn't get through training. Had to call it. Horizontol snow is no fun for kids..

    (Or adults)

A fun drive across the country from wicklow to galway. Every type of weather encountered along the way. Beautiful clear skies followed by severe gusts and blinding sleet. About to do the return trip. Should be fun.

Sleet with wet flakes and some hail in Arklow trying to turn to snow as I type
    3.6c
    Dew point is -0.1c
    Almost full snow now
    Temp dropping like a stone
    Wind gusting to 61kmh
Its like an episode of fortitude

In Tipp, it was dark one minute with horizontal snow, sleet and rain in a fierce wind and a minute later it was sunny.

One of the most intense hail showers I've seen in a good while, place temporarily coated white! Temperature went from 5.2c to 3.6c in just a few minutes. West Clare.

    Severe gusts.
