Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Just observing the satellite there may be a small bit of hope for south east, eastern fringes perhaps later with some new cloud formation just off Cornwall now and an ok angle of approach.

Still i'd have to favor a just off shore scenario here but stranger things have happened...

South coast of England around the Isle of White east in for a fun time in the next hour or so. Storms moving north and expanding then.

Kicking off on the Dawlish webcam (for those who want their fix :P )

Have only been watching two minutes and must have seen a good 50 flashes already, gonna be a fun night over there

Nothing doing here in West Cornwall. Showers to the east of me are not sparking. Methinks it'll be an early night :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,918 ✭✭✭✭Kermit.de.frog

Oh it's kicking off now - Wales and parts southwest England now and POSSIBLY could be a tiny bit of hope for us.

Also keeping an eye on the ever heightening cloud tops in to Waterford. That could kick off any time...

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,023 ✭✭✭Donegal Storm

Netweather lightning radar seems to be broken, hasn't recorded a single steric from that storm over Devon when there's flashes every couple of seconds on the webcam

  • Registered Users Posts: 205 ✭✭CirrusBusiness

Kicking off south of Cork. Wonder if it will clip the south east later on?

    Recent strike near Kilmacow, Waterford.

Not sure if that was a glitch on lightningmaps.org? Disappeared when I refreshed the page.

Lighting up across a good chunk of southern England now. Going to be some disruption throughout a good bit of Britain overnight.

    Rapid convection south of Waterford!

Just shows you the unpredictable nature of Thunderstorm forecasting. Met Office now including London and the SE in their warnings.

Strike around 40 miles due south of Waterford...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,913 ✭✭✭Danno

This is setting up like June 29th, only this time it's around 4hrs sooner, so we *might* see some nice nightime lightning.

Really is kicking off now, unreal to watch

The strikes over Snowdon may just about be visible for Dubs on the far horizon with the right view.

In fairness it doesn't look like much action at all, a bit like here a few weeks ago , the lightning radars made it appear much worse.

The real problem is how long the strikes stay on the map, if it was instant and no history it wouldn't look anything.

I would think some intense storms going on there Mad_Lad, sferics below are within seconds of each other, and very heavy rain also and possible heavy hail.

Strike just east of waterford city a few minutes ago
It should have been audible and visible in Waterford

    Great link Danno.

South UK starting to get obliterated on that site.

EDIT: on zoom probably not "obliterated" but plenty of action nonetheless.

    Strike off hook head wexford
Should be visible from wexford town and audible from hook head

    ^^What the hell was that..?

Looks like a good light show in the UK but as expected storms are fairly small and fast moving so will be passing through quickly. Possible MCS developing around the Isle of Wight at the moment though

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,431 ✭✭✭Mortelaro

    Strike in south kilkenny
Some off mid wexford coast now too

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,918 ✭✭✭✭Kermit.de.frog

The cloud tops really blowing up now as the storms are making their way inland across much of Britain.

Just remember there is some distortion. Best look for tight clustering of strikes.

On a plane in Gatwick. Been delayed by 3 hours and now the sky is lighting up around us as we wait to takeoff

Keep in mind that there will be a lot of false strikes showing around Ireland on the live lightning maps tonight because Ireland has very poor lightning detector coverage and with the hundreds of strikes per minute happening in the south of Britain there will be a few false returns that slip through the cracks before validation.
