Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Best of luck, Tom.
I'd vote for you, but I'm just slightly West of your constituency.

Mandatory social media training? Is that a vested interest? I think a blog or something is a good idea to show what they're up to and allow better communication but I wouldn't be fond of certain media taking a big part in our government. (Not talking about boards)

    Good luck with the election!

For one glorious second I thought I had someone I could happily vote for...

...then I read this: "Repealing the 2009 Defamation Act to once again allow free speech in Ireland"

The Defamation Act if anything made speech freer in Ireland.

n auspicious day for Irish Politics, as the first candidate for the Amadain Aibreann party steps forward to challenge the inevitable Fianna Fein coalition.

    Tom,

It's a poor choice of date in the calendar to begin a political campaign, people might not take you seriously. Hey, wait a minute ... #AprilFoolsDay

Who is going to pay for
    1. A free and open internet for all
    2. Bring Dáil Éireann into the 21st Century - mandatory Social Media training for all members
    3. Internet access is a basic right, every citizen needs it

Tom - have you costed this ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,213 ✭✭✭MajesticDonkey

I'll only be voting if you can promise 100Mb broadband to every home in the country by the end of the year.

Great to see Tom going for election and fair play. Issues raised are current and topical.
However I do have an issue with

We propose that membership to Boards.ie be mandatory for all TD's Senators and elected representatives, as well as all departments of the civil service and that meaningful communication between the people and their servants be brought about to try and restore public faith in the government that serves them.

It unfortunately screams of vested interest that we always claim about our politicians. Surely a modification to "representation on social interaction media such as boards.ie or equivalent"...............

    • Integration of Boards.ie's Moderation and Administrative tools into PULSE for the tracking and aprehension of internet criminals

Can you explain to me what exactly does this mean in layman terms?

A year or two ago I would have been all for this. But now I'm not so sure. I'm not a technical guy or IT guy by a long shot, so I only have a rudimentary understanding of the issue- but this whole thing with the American government keeping track of everyone and reading their emails etc it's not a nice thought.

As a firearms owner in this country I suspect that would probably make me a prime candidate for Garda tracking (since us gun owners are all nuts and just waiting for an excuse to shoot up a shopping center).

Now obviously anything I post on a boards is fair game. But I see that its a slippery slope if they start tracking boards users where do we stop?

Fair play to you Devore, I think this will be the first time I have ever voted for a candidate in the European elections and being genuinely excited about doing so.

I agree with your manifesto 100% and especially want to see repeal of our defamation laws which only serve the wealthy and powerful who wish the truth to remain under wraps and anonymous.

I'd just like you to clarify one thing - re:the Pulse systemI'm not exactly sure what you are proposing here but when I read about Boards.ie mods being connected to the Pulse system a shiver went up my spine :D

If you have done nothing wrong then you have nothing to worry about.

    Vote for him?
I'd ****ing contribute today to the campaign fund, calendar or not. Have you seen who we have to chose from in the next MEP election?
    http://europedecides.eu/candidates/election-lists/ie/

Ming "Why would I have a wash before going to work, I'm much more important than the Dail" Flanagan? Who's half the reason we have to have a no-pyjamas policy in both Tesco and the highest seat of government in Ireland. And that's the actual lobster-molesting "choice" we have?

    Feck that.

#DeVoreForEurope. Because at least he has a wash when he gets up in the morning. And makes Ministers look stupid when they're being stupid:

Anyone still think this is just a terribly funny joke that makes no sense come tomorrow?

    Just sayin'...

I just paid 85c for a stale bag of Prawn Cocktail Walkers. What's in your manifesto about that? Will you provide for a specialised policing unit akin to the Gestapo to prevent such a detritus from happening again?

Perhaps a more cost effective redress to the hapless victim would be a kick in the bollix for the guilty shopkeep.

Good luck in the campaign, it's about time someone stood up for poster rights.
And I'm sure the chauffeur would be handy.
But you really should reconsider that yearly charge. I know you need campaign funds but that is going to create a bit of a backlash.
What about an exemption for users with 2824 posts or more.

    Best of luck!

Can't say Tom will be getting my vote. It's a manifesto that appeals to bedsit dwellers and computer game addicts. No relevance to Paddy Punter and Mary Middle Class.
