It was a weekend of two halfs. Glorious yesterday in Dublin. We spent the day in park in tshirts and it was gorgeous for the time of year.

Today is miserable in North County Dublin. 12 degrees. Everyone out in raincoats + shoes/boots. Apart from few people caught out + still dressed for yesterdays weather.

On the plus side could go to shops + not be worried about wasting a nice day indoors!

What ways were crops in the south east this year as there seemed to be very little rain there?

I didn't hear anyone complain. There was just enough rain at the right time.
No rain again today but looking North from Mt Leinster you could see it headed West to East into Dublin from the Midlands.

    Vegetable crops were irrigated

Yeah looked like S Wexford was the place to be again!

Murky drizzly weather in Kildare with a few heavy bursts of light rain if ya know what I mean.

Still dry in South Laois but temperatures are dropping. 16.6c and a bit breezy.

August was a wet month with 122mm at my Waterford station but September has just 8.7mm so far so overall a wet August has helped the farmers.

The forecast on Country file a few minutes ago is very promising up until next Sunday at least as high pressure builds and builds over us. By Friday we'll see continental air coming up and rising temps by a few degrees.

Farmers in the west, even with good land, must be feeling the pinch as August was a washout and this month has been wet and quite cool too.
I guess a lot of silage and hay was saved this summer. I noticed a few fields with grass mowed down over the last few days.

If I was to retire anywhere in Ireland for decent weather it would have to be the waterford/wexford area. So many days when I look at the satellite pictures and the country is covered in cloud except those areas. You don't need huge warmth, just the clear skies is a great bonus.

Then again it was 26c in the London area today.
Someone said earlier it was 10c in Knock.

Next week is looking promising so hopefully the forecast gives us some bit of sunshine and warmth before autumn truly kicks in.

I see the rain skipped much of Laois according to the radar. Still above 15c here. Breeze is very light now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 48,254 ✭✭✭✭km79

    So today now looks cloudy
    And tomorrow
Nicest weather keeps getting pushed back a day before the washout returns on Sunday

    Let there be light.

Cold front eventually passed over South Laois around 6.30am. Sudden drop in temperatures and enough drizzle to wet the ground. Currently 13.2c with fog and mist.

Where's the forecast for cloudy weather tomorrow? From what I had gathered, it's to be nice from tomorrow until Saturday but with tomorrow being the coolest of the next 5 days.

Temperatures across the northern half of the country should recover by Wednesday with 18 to 20C possible in places if there are good spells of sunshine.

    arpegeuk-41-63-0.png?16-06

Low 20's possible in the southern half of the country by Thursday. Somewhere like Shannon could reach 23C.

    arpegeuk-41-87-0.png?16-06

Once we get today out of the way, the rest of the week should be fairly decent.

Bar patchy cloud and rain or drizzle and mist in the Northwest.

Today the forecast said lingering rain and drizzle clearing the South and yet when I arrived at work in Sligo there was mist on my windscreen. But Sligo isnt the south?

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,506 ✭✭✭✭Xenji

A small bit of drizzle this morning in Castlebar on and off, but the sun is trying to break through at the moment and some patches of blue skies are showing as well, 16.2C but feeling warmer.

Athenry seems to be having a prolonged run of bad (or good, depending on how you look at it) luck regarding rainfall amounts over the last couple of months as once again, it recorded the highest amount yesterday: 18.4 mm. Compare this with the paltry 4.2mm at Mace Hd on the exposed west coast. It is easy understand why KM79's stress levels are through the roof lately.

It has been pretty grimm, Athenry is running at 368.4mm of rain since the start of August, Newport is not that far behind with 335.3mm and it looks like next week could be quite wet as well.

Belmullet only has had 223.7mm as a comparison with Mace Head having just over 200mm

Sun is out and sky is clear after a cloudy enough day here...in county meath

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,684 ✭✭✭Darwin

Miserable enough day yesterday and today, got soaked out walking yesterday and the garden is still very damp over 24 hours later.
Looking forward to a rerun of Saturday's weather in the next few days.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,685 ✭✭✭Mobhi1

Thast was a dull, cold day but I can see a clearance in the northern sky now. The day's high was only 13.9C. There was 2.0mm of rain recorded this morning.

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators Posts: 16,966 Mod ✭✭✭✭Gonzo

after two properly cold and early Winter like days', the skies have cleared here and the sun is out. Hopefully it will be much milder by tomorrow. Friday and Saturday look very good, then Autumn will be powering up from Sunday.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,207 ✭✭✭✭Oscar Bravo

Clear blue skies to the end the day here in Castlebar. Lots of sunshine to be had tomorrow ,away from the north west which will have more cloud.

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators Posts: 16,966 Mod ✭✭✭✭Gonzo

The beer gardens in Dublin could be rather busy this Friday.

Beautiful end to an otherwise rubbish day in Dublin. Am glad to see the back of yesterday and today.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,685 ✭✭✭Mobhi1

True. At last we have a clear sky here in Glasnevin but it's a bit late in the day to provide any benefit.

    Hardly, no?

Friday 2nd August was stunning. 22 degrees and clear, gin blue skies. We'd a work day out and took the boat from Dun Laoghaire to Howth so I remember it vividly.
