Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Yes, four pacers at each of the following times - 3.00, 3.15, 3.30, 3.45, 4.00 and 4.30

24 people to do pacing, hope they can get the numbers.

Well, there are 16 pacers in place so far (and a couple of backups), so well on the way. The tough one to fill will be sub 3, but there's already one runner in place, with almost three months to go, so great progress.

Hi all..Ran dublin last year and hoping to do so again this time ( if Im able after Berlin in September ).. When entering I was redirected to Active.com...Its 70 euro to enter atm which ive no problem with but then I c there's a 5.60 processing fee on top of that..

Was that processing fee there last year ? I could b wrong but Dublin seems to b the only European marathon where a processing fee applys..

yes it was there last year, having done marathons around the world Dublin is one of the most expensive and you get no value for your money,The organisers need to give a little more value in the race packs, although they will tell you that it is expensive to run which is a load of codswallop, what are sponsors for !!! rip off ireland is alive and well with the organisers of the dublin city marathon, even the after marathon food sucks ,give us value for money :

are they doing pacers for the DCM this year?

As Krusty points out, we've three months to go, and most of the pacers in place already (I'm organizing pacers this year). If the race was run tomorrow, I'd be very confident we could do a great job, using just those who have volunteered to pace for this 2010 run. The bigger volumes of runners have all four pacing slots each filled already (for the sub 4 and sub 4:30 pace bands). There are two quality pacers each for 3:45 and 3:30, and three in place for 3:15. Given that last years marathon was run with two pacers per band (and inexperienced pacers at that), we're in a much better position than last year, and know which areas we can improve in. We could do with another (at least) sub 3 pacer, but the lad who is place is a very experienced club runner (as well as being the nicest guy on the planet, important when you need banter to take your mind off the pain after 20+ miles), so if push came to shove, could pace this group solo (just making the point; it won't come to that on the day).

There are still three months to go, so if anyone feels they might be interested in pacing one of the remaining pacing slots (listed below), please contact me with your details/questions, thanks:)

    Slots available:
    3:00 (Having previously ran sub 2:48) x3

    3:15 (Having previously ran sub 2:56) x1

    3:30 (Having previously ran sub 3:06) x2

    3:45 (Having previously ran sub 3:19) x2

    4:00 Full

    4:30 Full

Yes, there will be pacers, organized by our very own Donothoponpop (taking the batton from the prodigious Amadeus). Many of the pacers are regular posters / contributors on Boards. The aim is to have 4 pacers at each of the following time slots: 3.00 / 3.15 / 3.30 / 3.45 / 4.00 / 4.30

The organizers have not announced their sponsors/nutrition etc, but in previous years it was Club Energise sports drink (bottles), High5 gels, and bottled water (if I remember correctly). No energy bars or fruit, save what's handed out by the generous public.

No energy bars or fruit, save what's handed out by the generous public.
    cheers krusty

It's a bit late asking now, as I've already signed up, but what is the course like? I don't know Dublin at all. Is it flat enough? What are the toughest parts to be aware of? I'm after getting a hit of nerves today about it :o

It's a flat course (dodges rotten tomatoes thrown by amadeus and other Strawberry Half-ers;)). The worst of the hills is a slow drag from 17-19miles: steep 40m section at milltown, gradual long incline at Clonskeagh, which culminates in a steep-ish 100m before Foster's Ave. A lot of runners dislike the long Crumlin road mid-section (where the wind can be against you), and some say the ramp at 22 miles at UCD is tough (in reality, anything at 22 miles is tough).

That's the worst parts IMHO, in general its a great course, with plenty to keep your interest. Crowds are meritorious, its certainly flat enough to be a PB-type course. Copacetic cameraderie.

It's not exactly as flat as a pancake, but at the same time isn't too hilly either. In terms of hills, there are really two points where these come into effect:

    1) From around mile 12 to mile 13 there's a long drag up through Crumlin. It's not exactly a hill, but is an incline none the less and can be draining as it's invariably into the wind and is a bit dull in terms of scenery.

    2) Around miles 18-19 there are two inclines up to the top of Fosters Avenue that are tough because of where they come in the race. Again, not exactly problematic in themselves, but can catch people out.

I'm certain there have been some course profiles floating around these parts - am sure someone less lazy than me will point them out.

Ignorance is bliss Rubyk...........But since you asked: The lads have already mentioned the drag from crumlin to the walkinstown roundabout and the climb at roebuck hill. But theres also a doozey of a hill when youre coming out of chapelizod, around about the 10mile mark.

Wow, you're right! It's so early in the race it never registers with me:o

BTW: entry is currently €70, but will go up to €80 in a few days time, for those who are still on the fence here.

Not at all. Its no big deal. This is why I say to run 26miles in training, take fear out of the equation, You'll get to the start line and will be brimming with confidence.

A good friend of mine blew up here in 2008. It took all my hill-running skills to hit that ascent quickly, and slip by him before he might notice, and get second wind*. It wouldn't even register as a wrinkle when you drive over it, but is many a runners' Everest!

(*He's since whipped me in every hill race after!;))

Not hills, but... I found the speed bumps down Nutley Lane (as you pass RTE) to be a killer the year I raced it. Also crossing the traffic Island at the UCD flyover. Only 6 inches high, but they felt like a mountain at the time!

Was going to mention them as well. From that point, even the camber in the road had me tottering towards the edge of it.

But, it's really that climb up Roebuck, where it starts to get hairy. It's useful to know where the other climbs are so you can pace yourself right, but they shouldn't take that much out of you.

Yup, I ran the long way round it last year - my legs were shot and I couldn't lift my knees properly, so I decided to no try and jump onto it, I would probably have ended up doing a very painful belly flop.

You can always just email them & ask for an entry form to be posted out to save that extra fee from Active Europe. The email address is office@dublinmarathon.ie.

Ran Dublin last year for the 1st time and hoping to do so again in October.

Overall it was a great experience but I got caught out badly with the following:

1: The hill from Chapelizod to Inchicore knocked the stuffing completely out of me. I'd never been on that road before and badly underestimated the incline. It took me a number of miles to recover. Found the other hills ok.

2: For anyone who has'nt run Dublin before I strongly suggest u experiment with Club Energiser on some of ur LSR's. I found it very sweet and heavy. Its not like powerade or gatorade and in my oponion wont agree with all. ( it defo did'nt agree with me !!! )

Thanks - that was one of the many questions I have been gathering ! That's the standard sports drink at all stops. Since we are on the subject - are they still giving out water in bottles or have they switched to cups ?

And also .... *slighly worried* why are the 3.30 pacers so into whip cracking - I want my pacers soothing, reassuring and inspirational ! At worst a "good cop/bad cop" deal.

Added a sub 3.45 group, since there's a pace group for that time

You tempted to revise downwards RayCun?

Last year they gave out water is bottles which was great so hopefully they wont change this..

Pacers seem to b very well organised this year. I think there's 4 pacers per time allotment.

My advice for what its worth is to get as near as possible to ur pacer at the start which is not as easy as it seems!! During marathon stay as close to them as u can.. Chances are at some stage ul go through a bad patch (it happens us all).. if u have to ease off try and stay within visual contact of ur pacers and when ur feeling better ( which will happen too) slowly reattach urself to them..

    Piece of cake!!!

I paced 3.30 last year so I dont understand your comment. I know what its like to be struggling so whip cracking aint my thing. If i see anyone easing off I will give him any help i can.
I would like you to explain hte comment out of interest and maybe i might learn.
Now the last 800metres is differnt. If i can get a runner over the line in sub 3.30 I will use anything I can.
