Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Dovea have a Limousin breeder working for them. He breeds good stock himself and I have a feeling he has a say in which bulls to buy. They have an impressive lineup of Limousin bulls now.

Ya they do. He breeds good stuff. It was his foreman they bought in roscrea last October and he looked better than the big money bull imo.

Have one just calved a few days ago for the first time. Lots of milk and very quiet. She not very tall but is just 24 months

Had a bull and heifer off him last year, both very muscley and not too big, sold both of them.
Maybe im wrong but i wouldnt think he'd be the best bull to keep replacements off.
I'd rather something with more frame and milk in their breeding.

I’ve two nice muscley eby heifers that I’m thinking of keeping. They are rated 123 and 155 on replacement index. They where out of first calved heifers last year. Their mothers are simx x lm2014. They should have enough milk going back the line, but frame would be the question mark.

Anyone using Blonde bulls in Ai. Thinking of using them as an easy calving option instead of limousin.

I used silver wood mark from bova this year. I've only the one heifer of him but I like her a lot, I'll be keeping her for breeding

If you like them they could be worth a try. I have two ZAG heifers calved here this year, not the biggest and not too milky yet but their morhers hadn't too much either.
Do you reckon LM2014 would be a good bull to keep replacements off?

Here's a pic of my Lodge Hamlet bull calf. About 10 days old now. Born smallish but already a bit of shape to him.

I say the cow would want to be milky!. I'd think he would be a good cross on a LM/FR first cross.

He would put the shape in and they would have the milk.

Out of an ABI dam....last year here the cow though, she put everything out after calving, vet advised no second chance, could lose cow and calf. Must buy some straws of him even if he is only a 1 star bull.

    What’s the gestation like

When gestation its quoted as +1.22 for example, what is the baseline its measured off.

282 days +1.22? Or something else.

    Cheers

Ya, that's confusing. I think the baseline is the average for the angus breed.
If you click on the Replacement tab on ICBF for a bull, then Gestation, you will see the gestation there in absolute days - 289 for example.

    From the Irish Limousin website;

Until further notice Ballinloan Jaegerbomb progeny pedigrees, future registrations and trading are suspended

    From the UK Limousin site;
We have become aware that BCMS have withdrawn passports for various Ballinloan and other Ballinloan related animals and BCMS have sent notices to the owners of the relevant animals. The cause appears to be errors relating to the registration of either the date of birth and/or the parentage of the animals concerned. These animals are also registered with the British Limousin Cattle Society. Below is a list of animals where we are aware that BCMS have withdrawn the passport. This means that the pedigree of these animals and any progeny is in doubt.

lots of it going on in the pedigree world and the society’s don’t want to know and only want money. The amount of calves lying in the rushes for weeks and then the big growth rate, The bdgp has thrown up lots of dna problems and the fella using Ai and scan the cow and gets a new Ai docket for to make the calf 6 weeks younger.

I was on a farm recently and there was very strong untagged calves there. I asked him why he hadn't them tagged. He said he always waited a.month or two before registering them. I asked were they out of ai bulls. They were. He was a bit taken back when I explained that the dept knew when they were ai'd.

I was at a Mart early last year and a man was selling weanlings.
According to the description on the Board they were only about three months old.
It was plain to see that they were at least 6 months old.....He obviously has a Brass Neck.
How did he get away with it?

That’s an everyday occurrence at marts around here, the buyers don’t care as it gives a bit of leeway when it comes to killing cattle

No need to have handhelds when the ai man duplicate copy goes back to ai company like PG/ Munster etc the office update info on icbf

Cooled down and the teaser didn't mind her after a while agin. This evening she is on again 3 days later? Bit odd, was scanned cleaned too.

A bit strange alright but i'd just wait and see if she comes round three weeks after being Ai'ed.
I would have Ai'ed her the first time she was bulling. Why did you leave her, its hard enough keeping them to 365 days.

Ya think I'll do that. I generally leave them bull once to clean out and ai next time. Expensive straws etc. I don't think many hold on the first heat.

I wouldnt agree that not many hold on the first heat, its as good a heat as any in my book.
They definitely wont go in calf if there isnt a straw in them but i wouldnt be using expensive straws here.
Each to their own i suppose.

Could be no harm getting blood checked.

Has the usual bolus after turn out and a mag bucket. Even though she was in standing heat she wasn't running slime the second time. I'll leave her be and see what happens next time.

I had a cow in standing heat around lunch time today. Looks to be gone off her now. Could I wait until morning to AI her or would it be to late.

There is clear slime coming out of her at present.
