Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Not going to this, but out of curiosity, how does the drinking part work?

Do you have to drink it from the bottle/can, or can you have it poured into a glass to make it easier to gulp it down?

It has to be straight from the bottle or can, no loopholes on the drinking unfortunately!

No sign of bottles of Brooklyn Lager so have bought cans to test out drinking from cans. Josh Harris messaged me saying avoid cans at all costs, that they slow you down and its easy to leave beer at the bottom.

Still on the fence. Bad beer from a bottle or better beer from a can?

Will give the cans a try and report back. Going into uncharted territory sculling from cans despite being a veteran of 9 beer miles.

Did a beer mile with 3 beers, starting with a run (skipping the first beer).

The runs were about 340m or so according to the watch.

I used Moosehead for the beer and the splits were:

    30-36-44

Felt horrendous on the runs. Moosehead doesn't seem to agree with me. Felt I was constantly burping all run and could never relax and up the speed. Kept the runs very easy as a result. Overall time was 10 mins flat.

My only Moosehead beer mile was my only disaster in the 10+ beer miles I've done. I want to make sure I make that starting like with Brooklyn Lager. I'll be in a much stronger position if I do.

Post your training updates here folks. Happy beer mile week :)

Did the same session as the above only with 400m runs instead of 340m and cans of Brooklyn Lager instead of bottles of Moosehead.

    Splits were 27 - 29 - 29

Yikes. Best session I've ever done. Are cans the secret? Other than the bit of foam at the start the stuff sailed down.

Much easier to drink than Moosehead too.

It's straight from the bottle/can and there's no shotgunning or snorkeling. Also it needs to be unopened in advance. Basically these are all to make things consistent

The champ defended his title. Awful conditions.

Personal worst for me I think. Just didn't happen on the day.

Thanks again to DrDrankEngine for organising, great fun despite the crappy weather. Came in at 9:08, 20 seconds slower than last year, think it was 6th place

Thanks to DrDrankEngine for organising! This was my first Beer Mile and I enjoyed it much more than I expected. I had thought that it would be a struggle to run fast on a stomach full of liquid, but it was surprisingly ok! 😁 The hard part was trying to drink and catch my breath at the same time! I was happy with my 10.33. Sub 10 next year!

Thanks for organizing it! First beer mile and I fell prey to the penalty lap. Beers 3 and 4 were an ordeal to get through, I feel humbled. I also found it difficult to run fast during the second and third laps - I think I was dreading having to drink again, it's difficult to motivate yourself to run faster when you know at the end of it there's another foamy beer you have to down.

Well done all! I’m genuinely amazed Eoinin at how well you did! I thought you’d be only able to sip beer after a lap or two (judging by what I’m like trying to drink water after 400s!) but you still looked like you were enjoying it & you flew around the laps. I think you’ve found your event!

Well done all & well arranged, Danny, nice to meet you!

Nice one, Eoin. Took a few scalps there.

(Terrible race titling on that site - at least two of our National Events have the wrong year - 2019 and 2016. Can no one fix this?)

Good event again this year! Thanks for organising. Hangover about the same as last year also with the post race drinks.

I resurrected my old training log and left an account of my race there. 3rd two years in a row. I was targeting 2nd place but the Thomas The Dank Engine was back to full fitness this year and I couldn't catch him.

It's that time of the year again. And we have decided that given the outdoor nature and our insatiable annual longing for the event, that we will be going ahead with the beer mile this year. We're going with Saturday the 19th of September (just under two months away) and I've created the following thread for the event so dust off your luminescent singlets and get training!

We are back! Just created the discussion page for this year's beer mile:

    https://www.boards.ie/discussion/2058308559

Hopefully most of you can make it! It's almost like a reunion now that it's been so long since the last one!

    This year's results are up

    https://www.beermile.com/results/event/4844

But also the beer mile website has had a big overhaul and they've added a feature to link up your runs with a personalised account. If any of you create an account that you'd like me to link up, just let me know. I can do this for previous events back to 2017.
