Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

O'Hehirs in Tesco arcade is probably your best bet for a breakfast on a Sunday Morning

It's been years since I was in there but it was pretty manky grub iirc

Worst I've seen recently is a "fried breakfast" in Cafe Victor which was nuked in a microwave.. no excuse for that to be fair!

Haven't set foot in O'Heirs since far superior places opened in town, once upon a time when I was in town on my school lunch it ruled the roost. Bland is the first word that comes to mind imo.

Just a shame theres not many, if any like it open on a sunday morning. Remember having guests round one time looking for the hangover fry up, was very disapointed, after saying how good the breakfast was to find it closed. Shells do an amazing breafast, but bo good when you are probably still over the drink drive limit it go anywhere.

Aye but Sligo is dead on a Sunday, not nearly enough tourists, the locals nursing their hangovers at home. Osta does be open on Sundays, I'd go in there for their pancakes.

TBH, I have not bought from O'Heirs since they considered each type of salad an additional topping, and wanted to charge for it in a chicken and ham roll.

Shells in Strandhill on a Sunday morning, and Margarets in Finnisklin weekday mornings, are both packed, or at least have a constant flow. I'd imagine somewhere like either would be very popular on a Sunday morning for anyone based in the town looking for the cure, or just to chill out with family/friends over a snack in an unformal setting.

That's true but town is always dead on a Sunday, I guess people want to be by the coast or on the outskirts of town, nearer where they live. I'd be more inclined to head out to Strandhill for grub and a walk on the beach than go into town where there's nothing to do.

There's nothing to do in town on a Sunday, so nobody heads in to town, then the shops/cafes stay closed because there's nobody about, so then there's nothing to do on a Sunday, vicious circle.

Not sure how you break that cycle but I wish there was more life in the town on a Sunday, one of the only days I'm free to go into town.

Paid parkimg and max stays on a Sunday are also a real deterant. Prehaps if these were relaxed, or done away with altogether on a Sunday, more people would come in, more shops would open, and more cafes and restaurants would cater for them. Also the continued state of O'Connell street probably does no favours at all. We were told it would be done before this years Fladh, and that was before the 2014 one started, and we are still even no way near a start date.

Unfortunately the CoCo, alomg with the CoC, dont seem to have the towns interests at all.

Ooh, do Ósta do pancakes? My son always drags me in to Grappa if I'm in town early with him as he always wants pancakes for breakfast.

Yes, they're fab! They have a gluten free option too. I love the greek yogurt with sligo honey and toasted almonds.

Their basic lemon and icing sugar pancakes are to die for as well.

We need a good music store along the lines of a HMV or Liber on a bigger scale!

Wouldn't last three months in the age of digital streaming/downloading. A vinyl record store would have more chance of succeeding.

Absolutely. People do buy the odd CD, my self included, but with them so cheap in Tescos, and on line, the highstreet record stores can not compete. A proper music store, selling a whole varity of music genres, different formats, who can order in or stock rarities, or more obscure titles would do better. Weather there is the demand in Sligo is another mater.

Me. Online though. Easier to find the stuff I buy.

Same here, I'm old school and still prefer the physical aspect of music as opposed to mp3s. Still have cassettes and vinyl from my youth and tons of CDs since!

Passed by Pepper Alley today, so sad to see the for sale signs up. I guess that O'Briens must have affected their business and the motor tax office move probably didn't help Park Alley either!

Shame.. a 6-inch sub and a drink for €4 is hard beat!

Must be the only town in the world that a Subway is closing down... Everywhere else they are popping up everywhere. Shame but hopefully someone else takes on the franchise in Sligo

Judging by Digiby's post I'd speculate the guy didn't fancy paying the franchise fee and is going to run it unfranchised, probably won't notice much difference...

I've known a couple to close, in Donegal Town and Letterkenny, always thought the Sligo one was quite busy though.

Well I doubt that to be true considering the paedo issue in the US! Ive plenty of friends in the US who have declared never to visit another Subway ever again.

Jared Fodle, their spokesman though he has barely featured this their advertising in almost 10 years, home was raided due to the suspected presence of child pornography.

    That's ridiculous..

Don't get me wrong.. I can understand people's disgust at this but why exactly would people stop eating at Subway due to this? No-one can honest suspect Subway knew of this, and are people attributing it to their Subway's sandwiches? I don't think anyone suspects their subs turns you into a paedophile. Christ!

I know, what the heck has that individuals actions got to do with going in and eating at Subway, really mental the way people react to news. I wound my friends up on facebook by making light of it stating "oooh I hope with all you guys boycotting it they have some great offers to entice us back in again!" It didnt go down to well, the US sense of humour is slightly different to my own!

I'm not sure. I'd imagine it will be a matter of an investigation taking place.
It's a pity as it was a nice resteraunt. Hopefully it re-opens soon.

Popular restaurant it seemed, and a few more unemployed people in town is never good, not to mention some of the apartments were reportedly damaged too.

that's a shame about the food experience i liked their rolls, i noticed they moved out the big fridge in recent months never a good sign. wonder will they continue to do the precooked dinners they distribute to the local shops? bad luck on that fire alright.

I've heard that they're still doing the ready meals because apparently they're produced in Carrick on Shannon, not the Sligo store.

Yep, notice on premises says ready made meals are still available in usual shops and the home catering service is as normal. Production of meals had to move to Carrick as the space above shop was too small for the amount they produced.

Didn't say Tra Ban was the cause of the fire... but they were affected as a result of it.
