Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

It's wobbly, is that the image stabilization probably wouldn't use any digital zoom for actual photos tbh. I'd just use the bigger zooms for showing off to my mates.

Thanks for that, Thought i was going to have an ordeal with Three again.

Anyone know if you can get rid of the NFC icon in the status bar?

If you swipe down you can turn it off in that menu.

I want it on though. Last phone had no icon for it in the notification bar even though its on. Problem is, its permanently on so no need for a notification. Same with Bluetooth

Great phone and all but no dual SIM is useless to me.

So I'm sending it back to Three in Monday but if anyone wants it for €780 before then, then I'm happy sell as it means I won't have to go through the refund process and you will be getting to claim the Sonos speakers.

Win win situation for anyone interested.

    Can meet in Dublin 1, 2, 7, 8, 12.

Again..I'm posting it off on Monday if I get no interest.

According to guys here, it is unlocked. But I personally used a three SIM so I don't have actual proof of this.

Perfect when you press hard. Not too hard, just firm.

The night mode pictures I saw may have used artistic license. I took pictures in dark room and they come out black!

My night mode pics were impressive even on P30, did you switch on night mode in camera app settings

The wide mode is pure ****e for 4k video when it isn't outside and sunny. I can't believe you can actually see pixels, quite similar to VGA quality.

You cant get a refund for opened device if its prepay phone. 14 day cooling off applies to contract phones.

It's good in low light, but some of the examples had rooms inside with the light off looking bright. Suppose they defied the laws of physics

Yeah i agree on this completely black, I think some of those features are in a future update and some countries already have the update that allows the 3rd party notifications on AOD. I'm coming from a mate 20 pro so I still don't know how I feel about this phone as I feel a lot of the features advertised aren't in it yet.

Saying from experienc but sure goodluck with that one. Why would they accept a open phone which they cant sell as new again without any reason?

You 100% can return it when it's been opened and used. I did it with a P20 pro 6 months ago...

It is a painful process, you need to constantly ring them though

    Because it's the law.

On the delivery docket of the prepay phone it is written black on white that you can cancel the purchase of the device within 14 days. Also it doesn't make any sense what you're saying.

Had the same problem, I think I left both phones with no sim and I made sure I press 'connect manually' (also go to wireless and make sure it connects to the hotspot)

What protective cases are everyone using or tempered glass? I don't like the look of the latest otterbox cases, they don't look like they offer good protection.

Cheers, turns out my old phone would not connect to 5Ghz hotspot even though it has it, 2.4Ghz worked OK though.

Push notifications are hit and miss. My Psn message app shows nothing, then I log in and I have tonnes of messages. Livescore app is pretty much useless. WhatsApp seems to work sometimes

Did anyone get the 9.1.0.124 update, mines on .113. From my understanding it was supposed out update out of the box to .124 as this has the AOD fix and possibly the low light photo fix?

Can't seem to get a clear answer, on 3 Ireland here.

Can't find anything concrete. Looked on xda, seems some people got the update straight away, others got it using the pc software.

How is everyone finding the phone after using it over the weekend? Battery etc. I am trying to decide between getting the P30 Pro or the Mate 20 Pro.

  • Registered Users Posts: 114 ✭✭Da Optimist

I am put off buying it as the case selection is very poor. The otter box symmetry case appears very think and the phone would probably smash in it if dropped. Also cannot see any decent tempered glass to get.

    Very good so far.

Haven't got the update yet which is supposed to improve a few things.

Battery is brilliant as expected. On 66% after charging it up last night.

EMUI was a concern but it's actually pretty similar to OneUI like my old Samsung (in the Android menus etc) so I am fine with it. I use Nova launcher instead of the EMUI one, which wasn't as bad as some people would have you believe.

Have the pro version, it's big and slippy!
Should have a case for it tomorrow to help improve the grip.
Camera is really good when you get a good shot.
Would have preferred 1440p screen but 1080p looks decent and it's better than my old 1440p one. Old one has much higher PPI but it looks tiny and dull compared to this phone. Colour accuracy looks a bit off sometimes but not it's ok.

Processor feels like it handles most things quickly but I haven't played any demanding games or processed videos.

Overall am happy with it. I was originally planning in getting an S10 but don't like the Enynos chip.
With the Sonos one speaker deal it was a no brainer to get this instead of the Mate P20 as there wasn't a big price difference at the time.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,312 ✭✭✭✭Cienciano

I'd agree with most of what Keith186 said. I use nova too. EMUI is fine. Battery and camera are great. Phone is slippy as fúck, spigen case on the way too. I'll post pics.
One slightly annoying thing is I keeping pressing things on the edge of the screen when I put it down unlocked. Reckon the case will sort that. Finger print scanner has worked first time about 95% of the time. Rest of that just required a second go. Haven't really used front camera or video. Nfc and Bluetooth icons in the notification bar is slightly annoying.
