Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. On Virgin and have no quality issues on my now tv box or with the now tv app on my phone or laptop. I'm using my own router for wifi and not the cheapo one Virgin give out though.

I'm wondering is it worth upgrading to the Nowtv box, presumably has a higher spec than the Nowtv stick

Used this for NFL all last winter without a single issue, but the stream was garbage for the United match last night. Using virgin cable. Wonder if the issue was the number of people watching the game via NOW TV? Could it really be a broadband issue for everyone?

    Virgin BB as well.

Been using now TV for five years (using UK before Irish launch).

Never an issue with live sports streams.

Just making sure people know it isn't HD? It's not SD either.

Yeah I was using it before it launched in Ireland and used to use the Now tv app on Apple TV which was always solid but it's very mixed on the Now tv stick for me.

I know it's not Full HD and when it started working well in the second half last night it would be hard to tell it from HD.

I've the box from 2015, I'd say the stick is a higher spec as it's a good bit newer. The box doesn't have voice search either. Good thing about the box is that it has an ethernet connection so you don't have to rely on WiFi. I use wi-fi majority of the time when I'm on the road staying in hotels/Airbnb, but use wired at home.

England ireland match absolute garbage resolution again. Restarting router to see if that helps.

  • Registered Users Posts: 432 ✭✭Danny2580

Get onto them and complain (as I have done), something needs to be done about it... was never an issue in the past.

    Mine is perfect on chromecast.

Yes might have been less embarrassing in low resolution

First time using the Nowtv stick today for the Arsenal Liverpool game. Only have Three mobile internet, but was very happy with the quality (unlike Arsenal).

Have a free months sports pass that came with the stick (Tesco €29.99), anyone know if I buy the 3 months upfront pack, will it stack ?

No, this deal wont stack, but your 1 month pass will nearly be up by the time the offer expires. I wonder could you ask them cancel your current pass on September 11th? Then purchase the 3 month deal on the 12th?

T&Cs: 18+ ROI only. 50% offer: Available to new customers or customers without an active Sky Sports Pass only. Up front payment of €58 required for 3 months access to Sky Sports. After 3 month period, Pass will auto-renew to €39 per month unless cancelled. You can cancel anytime. Offer expires 12th September 23:59.

There is a pretty big delay on this vs direct from sky sports

About 15 seconds on the goal there (vs livescore). 5 seconds is normal

Phone buzzed and I knew the 33rd county were about to score!!

This is only really worth the discounted price at this stage. Wouldn't fancy paying 40 quid a month for too long. Picturing is blurring regularly enough now, at key moments sometimes. Was pretty smooth and stable last year.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,096 ✭✭✭Jofspring

Ya I agree, not worth full whack.

I see they are saying they will have the sky sports extra package soon so might be worth holding out to see what they offer with that.

I'm getting this a lot too. And dropping the network connection.
    Never happened last year

I use a wired connection to my TV and have zero issues.

Ye might try that if possible, never have problems on my phone either tho tbh.

Has anyone tried the mobile monthly pass for 7 euro per month. I know its only limited to watching on mobiles and it is limited to 5 channels but that includes Sky Sports Premier league so doesn't seem like the worst option

Is that with a now tv stick ?

I get that all the time but doesn’t happen with laptop or phone.

Yeah, with the stick. Worked perfect last season

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,527 ✭✭✭irishgeo

Same as yourself, very poor quality stream during matches, or dropping out entirely. I have Virgin media broadband as well. Tried setting up a guest network for now tv as suggested elsewhere, but no improvement.

do you have 2.5ghz wifi and 5ghz as separate networks. You need to split them out to get the best speeds.

Yep works perfectly, got it for the gaa and stuck with it. Doesn't include all the channels as you've said (doesn't include main event or golf channels). Grand for the Premier League though.

Yep, got it too and find it good. You get used to the small screen too. The delay can be an issue, as it's sometimes close to a minute or more, but once your not getting goal alerts from twitter, etc it'll be fine. It's good value too in fairness.

6 month Sky Sports + Sports Extra pass on Pigsback now for €180...down from €438 apparently.

Meh. 30 a month Feb to July.

Bit no footie for half of may, June and july. Closer to 55 per month to me on that basis.

  • Registered Users Posts: 561 ✭✭✭thenightman

They charge 39 a month for sports + 34 p/m for sports extra, so still a decent deal for both at 30 p/m. Worth noting that Spanish football is gone off Premier Sports now, which makes the Sports Extra package less attractive for me anyway.

I think the deal is good, especially if you can split the cost with someone (2 devices at any time). Would be useful to highlight the deal in a new thread/update title of this thread? It is essentially a different offer.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,353 ✭✭✭naughto

Does the devices have to be on the same network or can I get one of the lads to go halfs on this offer

they don't have to be anywhere near each other. just share the NowTV log in and connect anywhere in ireland on whatever network.

The premier League is done and dusted that's why they're discounting it, a non event unless you're a fan of the red Scouse, then it's a 3 month victory parade. Some of the ****e they've served up as super Sunday of late has been unwatchable also rans.

  • Registered Users Posts: 308 ✭✭donnyvegas

if you go incognito and sign up - you'll get 10% discount to your email address. Takes it down to €161.99.

The offer is for ALL Sky Sports channels, BT Sports and Premier Sports. They show more than just Premier League.

Fair if you don't appreciated the bargain but there is no need for such negative comments.

They run these offers all the time. I bought two months of this for €60 off them before Christmas, it runs out at the start of February. I can't see the same offer on their site currently but last time they were doing offers like this on pigsback the same offer appeared on the now TV site shortly afterwards.

It's a good deal for €30 a month, and I'd keep sky sports year round, but have no use for sports extra once the football season ends.

Went for it .I'm a football and f1 fan and my old man is a big rugby fan so this deal is good value imo.

Only snag is, think I have to wait for the sports extra 2 month for 1 deal to expire at end of jan before I can activate it as says you can't have an active pass when starting. Could prob set up another now TV account I guess tho..

30 quid a month is essentially about fair for that package on your TV. But Now TV has its downsides that make this not really a bargain!!

if you have a pass already for sport, will this extend it, or can it only be used when they have expired ?

I was listening to Liverpool v Utd yesterday on Newstalk as I arrived at my in-laws. Van Dyke scored just before I got out of the car. I stopped to hear the confirmation that it was allowed by VAR, and then got out and went inside. They were watching the match on Sky Sports virgin media and it the goal hadn't even been scored there.

Always assumed it was just NowTV with such a delay.

It can only be used when expired but you have until early March to redeem it.
