Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Press release from the Dept of Ag.
    https://agriculture.gov.ie/press/pressreleases/2020/march/title,140467,en.html
Interesting note that BPS may be delayed as it depends on inspections being carried out before payment can issue. Whether that delays all BPS payments or just the ones due for inspection isn't known yet.

I suppose we have to realise if these restrictions and practices dont work we are going to move to the next level which could mean no vets, no milk processing, no meat processing, no calf registration, no bvd testing no ration.what i mean is if a business has covid outbreak that business will close no ifs and buts.the procedures in place are very easy to adhere to compared to the potential problems.adopt a cell strategy in terms of work -home -wider circle.be concious of moving between cells and try and minimize contact and wash after contact.a

Even in Italy that's not the case, a lot of business is still operating. Business is a valid reason for movement there

They just have to delay it so the hospitals don't get jammed up with nearly deads, most of us will get it and we won't even know we have it, take the opportunity to some spring cleaning and some diy around the house. Us farmers are lucky we have loads of space, can you imagine to be stuck in an apartment in Dublin with 3 or 4 kids absolute horror.

The one thing they have to do is keep food supplies going no matter what. We are now in delay stage, the whole plan is to stop the bell curve of the virus and to have a.lower plateau. The whole plan is to prevent the Health Service from becoming over whelmed.

As we get deeper into the delay phase health professionals will no longer isolate unless they develop symptoms and this will be true of society in general. It a matter if managing the pandemic now more than trying to prevent its further spread. 40-60% of people will get it before we develop what is called herd immunity.

In a way because our Health service is used of operating in crisis mode it may well help. Tracing is important over the next 3-4 weeks as is trying to keep elderly people with underlying conditions safe.

But stopping food supply would be a disaster as if people get malnourished there will be a much higher death rate. The UK is supposed to be going for rapid herd immunity which may result in 2-4 times more deaths and a higher number of patients with longer term problems than a more managed plan like Ireland and other European countries plan

I was a bit pissed this morning. I was in at the vets yesterday and they were implementing very simple strategies to protect the pratice and then i passed three pubs full and they clung to each other at the counter. To make matters worse i see a fellas cow box pulled in on way home from mart.then this morning i hear local village jointed last night with crowds down from dublin etc.i mean what part of limit your social contact do people not understand.

    People are selfish

This current schools closure is a massive thing, big effort and costing ordinary people money. The public need to row in and behave. The government will be left with no option but a full forced shutdown and this would stagger the economy costing more jobs when maybe it could be avoided by just making a bit of an effort now

Time now for our President Michael D. Higgins to finally do the job that he is there for and make a State of the Nation appeal to the Irish people on what needs to be done to look after each other in a civil society.

France closing cafes an restaurants. Will happen here fairly soon IWT.

Was the NCT test cntre today with son's car to put on lift. No notice or any protections measures whatsoever. Didn't go into waiting room. One person decided to bring the whole family, husband and three children for the day out.
    Close the bloody places.

The thing is the people who would listen to a common sense argument are already doing the sensible things and taking precautions.
I think the test won’t listen to anyone’s reasoned requests or arguments on this.

The public never learns to behave. It's not in the DNA of people.
Schools are off but the students are hanging around in shopping centres.
    It's boomtime for shops atm.

Tbh though I have a feeling this virus is at large in the public for the last fortnight or more in lots of places. There's people that have pneumonia symptoms but have been thrown from pillar to post between doctors and pharmacists and have never been tested up to now because they didn't fit the criteria of being abroad in Italy.
And especially won't get tested if the person themselves won't kick up a storm to get tested even now.

For the majority of people they'll get it but show no symptoms. For others they'll get a sore throat and then others it progresses in scale to a coarse cough from the bottom of their lungs and to full blown pneumonia.

At what point do coops close? Or they stop collecting milk? I presume even if they say all non essential businesses to close. The milk continues to get collected or am I wrong? Otherwise the country will have a savage amount of big strong calves.

    They can't and they won't.
The shops have to be supplied with milk and the rest of the grocery shop.

Every processor has a plan to continue collections on farms even if that farmer is known to have covid. Well so the processors say anyway.

The majority of workers in the processing plants will show no symptoms and continue working. Same for farmers.

I think some need to appreciate that it's difficult for many others to subscribe to the need for enforced closures that have happened and likely more to follow in the time ahead. why?

well we are told the majority of people if we should get covid19 will recover or not even know we've had it. that alone would be enough for many to not overly concern about it.add to that there is only asmall number of confirmed cases in the country. so maybe not quite a pandemic in Ireland yet.

if things do as predicted get worse in time ahead i don't doubt more people will realise the need for enforced closures and run with it for a while at least. so maybe a bit less moralising upon others for now.

Issue of a farmer having it wouldn't really effect milk collection. It would be if there was a cluster on the milk intake side that could close it for x period of time. Unlikely but probably not impossible

It'll be priority to keep the plants going.
We've as a nation gone beyond containment. So pointless to close a plant if one does get confirmed with it.
    That horse bolted long ago.
As mentioned before the majority will show no symptoms and can continue working. You could have it yourself this minute and you wouldn't even know.
