Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

the salaries are not to high

They are because they are costing CIE - and the taxpayer who funds CIE - a fortune each year.
. they are competitive and insure staff stick around long term with the company, to build up experience and more.
So how do the private bus companies survive?

The citizens are getting as bad value from CIE now as the old airline customers did 40 years ago when we had to pay a few hundred quid ( equivalent to say €600 now ) to fly to England, with old union dominated and uncompetitive Air Lingus. They Ryanair came along and changed everything, and brought air fares down.

Have you talked to someone from Ryanair about their wage and conditions?

    Have people learnt nothing?
during the DB strike it was reported in the news that drivers earned 60k a year.
When the dust settled it was shown that the real figure in 40k.

"anyone could do the job , its worth no more than 30k a year"
Alas not everyone can do the job, the solid turnover of driving staff in BE/DB is proof of this.
Now how could you attract staff? Maybe pay them more than 30k per year?
For those who would do the job in a heart beat for 30k, you will be delighted to know DB will be opening the job application process to anyone with a car licence in the next few months and they will pay you 40k a year after 5 years. whats the excuse you have for not applying for the job?

The "Gold Plated pension" that some have their knickers in a twist over is worth a stunning €130 a week, alas the drivers have money stopped every week from their wages to pay for this, it called a pension contribution, maybe some of you have heard of such a thing?

What are these magnificent "perks" that posters here speak off?
No specifics are ever given, just that the job has "loads of perks, that no one else has" well do tell what are they?

The bottom line is that the company (BE) will go bust if there aren't steps taken to improve e efficiency and reduce the cost base.

Everything else is just 'arse boxing ' to quote a GAA managers famous expression.

Tommy Lyons if I remember correctly.

So no takers to even attempt to answer the questions i asked?
Posters just prefer to post bull**** and rant about the drivers?

The quote to sum up this discussion
"better to be believed a fool and keep your mouth shut than to open it and remove all doubt"

It won't go bust, that's just scaremongering. It may be skint already but it won't be dissolved unless that's what the master plan is.

The masterplan is that the tax payer and fare paying passengers will be hit again. And again and again and again.

That means the bus drivers will be hit again and again. Unless you think they don't pay tax.

Yes but proportionately they will still be earning more versus the extra tax they might have to pay

They pay tax but it is cost neutral to them as they financially benefit.
