Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

He was down at the first class in JK's new gym tonight

I passed the Naas road gym at 9 this morning and it was closed, are they finished there now?

It's closed since last Sunday, down in the new gym a few days now for one of the SBG camps, opens to the public Monday.

That would be just a ceremonial thing. He’s not training regular and the relationship between him and JK doesn’t seem good. Also Roddy has gone. There seems to e a lot of issues. I’m not confident we’ll ever see Conor compete at the highest level again. Such a shame as I don’t think Ireland will ever produce a fighter of his caliber again in our lifetimes.

Where has Roddy gone, wasnt he in SBG Charlestown.

Shame the way this is all ending up. They were all onto a good thing until that Khabib loss, now its all gone a bit Pete Tong

Roddy isn’t gone anywhere. SBG Charlestown is his gym.
That’s the issue with people see one or two Instagram stories and filling in the blanks.

Doesn't look like he was rolling but i won't take 1 pic as gospel, he could have finished his training, got dressed and jumped in for a photo then....

Since Charlestown opened Roddy was only ever taking 1 class a week in Concorde, he stopped that last year, travelling over the city for one class was pointless.

Roddy opened SBG Charlestown and is doing well producing his own pro fighters. He's too good and ambitious to be working for JK. He is still Conor's striking coach though, I haven't heard any different there.

I reckon Holloway has fought more times in past 2 years than Conor has even trained. Money aside, how did it all go so wrong for him?? He was so witty and likeable, and had more charisma than any Irish sports star in history. But now it’s like he lives inside layers of security and posts vile and utter nonsense on social media. He can still turn it all around but only by fighting, even if he loses against top fighters he will still be applauded for what he brings. Who gives a crap about his whiskey and suits??

I suppose the landscape was very different when he won the LW Champ against Alvarez.

    That was in Nov 2016.

Max won the interim FW Champ against Pettis in Dec 2016 and Khabib beat Michael Johnson on the same card as the one McGregor beat Alvarez on.

Ferguson beat RDA in Nov 2016 and wouldn't be the interim LW Champ until Oct 2017.

I suppose it's not surprising McGregor went off looking for other things.

Who cares about how much money he’s made?!

His sporting career went to sh1t. If It happened to Federer, Ronaldo etc. we wouldn’t look to their financial situation.

He obviously does though and that was really the reason he got into it in the first place.

This is dangerous, it's prize fighting pointless comparing it to tennis and football. You can be damn sure if others in the UFC made what he has they would be sitting pretty too.

Even his own ego can tell him if your not in this fully guys like khabib, Ferguson are a danger to your health.

I mean like if he cared about his sporting career he would of defended his belts and wouldn't have chased a boxing match he had no hope of winning with Mayweather.

    He does obviously.
He said himself he wanted to get in, make a **** load of money and get out.
He was never in this for his legacy.

Plenty of other fighters to take an interest in if that's what you're after

I know it’s a dangerous sport, and I know he never shuts up about making millions (no humility).

It still causes me to roll my eyes when I hear punters talk about how much money he’s made. The thing that intrigued me about McGregor was his obsession with the art of fighting. He lost it.

Has he really made all the money that he claims? I'm not so sure...

Well definitely tens of millions. Doubt he made 100 million vs mayweather, probably 50 or under, rest went to UFC. He likely made around 10 million in each of his last 4 UFC fights. Doubt hes exceeded 100 million even though he seems to be referring to himself as a billionaire recently.

He's undoubtedly made an absolute fortune. He's managed to consistently negotiate better deals for himself almost every fight. Not sure if he was advised to do so or whether that was his own business acumen, but hugely impressive either way. Don't think any other UFC fighter has come anywhere near a close to him in realising their actual value. Most would have been happy with their first big contract and continued on those terms.
His idea to fight Mayweather was pure genius and the fact that he managed to pull that off is insane.

His whiskey seems to be a huge success too, albeit maybe not quite as much as he makes out. Can't imagine any of his other business dealings made a whole lot of money, be it the suits or his Fast programme.

All in all, he's sorted for life, whether or not he ever fights again. Fair play to.him. Just a shame he turned in to such an utterly dispicable individual along the way.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,968 ✭✭✭Nigzcurran

When you think back to when he posted on boards years ago slagging off the lads he was fighting at the time that was a taster of what he was gonna bring, the good and the bad. We wouldn’t have gotten one without the other and that’s what made him the superstar

He got into fighting to make money. That was always the main motivation.

    That has been achieved.

Kavanagh has just posted a recent pic of himself and Mcgregor out, maybe it was a party for the opening of the new gym. Hopefully Conor will be back training soon.
Once again there is massive sweat patches under Conor armpits. I know he is manic and always on a buzz, but he doesn’t seem embarrassed by this or even try to hide it. Or do you think Conor suffers from some form of social anxiety or is nervous??

He literally done a rap performance in Brooklyn ahead of the Floyd fight. I don't think social anxiety is a problem for him tbh.

What an absolutely bizarre thing to pick up on he has sweat patches.

He wasn't even supposed to be there the other day, saw a video of him their for the ribbon cutting but JK is there to him jokinly "what are you doing here today your not supposed to be here till 21st sept for the offical opening".

What’s wrong with asking that?? I’ve often noticed him in these tight fitting shirts and huge sweat patches. I first noticed it when he did the ultimate fighter with Faber. It seems odd to me that he doesnt seem embarrassed about it.
I actually went through a phase in my late 20s when I used to feel awkward in social situations and I would sweat a lot, but it went away and I was able to chill out a bit more.
I don’t think Mayweather would sweat like this. He is one cool cat.

Haven't seen the pictures but maybe the pub or club he was in was particularly warm or he was out dancing or something. Just because he has sweat patches under his pits, doesn't mean he was on something.

TUF is filmed in Las Vegas where it's about a million degrees celcius on a cold day. He's sweating because it's roasting out.

Well this has taken a new low talking about his perspiration :)
Let's do a deep dive on the fabric of the shirt :pac:

I think the promising thing is that his arm is no longer in a cast and that he is still involved with the gym.
From his insta, it looks like he his heavily getting word about his clothing line out there.

Lol. Hopefully soon we can talk about his next fight or his training. Would be great if he came back to headline MSG in November. Climate in New York will be cold then so he shouldn’t be sweating. He can even get the Gucci mink out again for the pressers.

Yeah he sort of vacated himself into a corner. 2nd from top would be a huge step down. Sponsors won't like that either, co main eventing.

Maybe they're waiting/praying to see if Poirier beats Khabib and then set up a Poirier vs McGregor fight for the belt.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,359 ✭✭✭Man Vs ManUre

UFC can make up whatever rules they want to factor in a super fight. If they need to stick to their title fight headline rule then the only real option for Conor at MSG would be interim lightweight vs Ferguson or Holloway or the new 165 belt vs Masvidal or Cowboy probably.
Otherwise he can fight next for the 155 title in March, tho not sure if Khabib and his team will allow Conor that chance.
Can’t see Conor fighting 2nd from headliner so UFC gonna have to compromise. But there doesn’t seem to be any sign of him coming back. My prediction now is we won’t see him back till Vegas next March.

Its beyond farcical if Ferguson doesn't immediately get the winner of that fight. 12 wins in a row and I couldn't remember a bad fight in one of those.

He has no interest in fighting, he only came back for Khabib to promote that whiskey. He's as good as retired IMO.

Sure he now has income streams that will keep him obscenely wealthy for the rest of his life. But those streams will become even bigger the more successful a fighter he is.
Most of the people around him are fighters/martial artists, this is his first love before whiskey and tight suits. He has stated numerous times he will be back. The wrist injury probably delayed this by 3 to 6 months. He is only 1 big win away from another shot at Khabib and he seems pretty confident he can beat Khabib.
It’s such a shame he has been so inactive, as no other fighter brings the level of interest and excitement.

He’s the only one who thinks he can beat Khabib so.
He’s done at the level he was at when he beat Alvarez.

I’m sure he’d love to be champion again, but it’s not going to happen.

Well as there is clearly no MMA talk going on, in line with the thread title, I'm closing this thread for a while. I'll be reviewing posts made during the course of today. Hopefully I'll be able to open it up again once you guys start to appreciate the difference between MMA and other matters

Please ensure you read the OP before posting in this thread

    Off topic posts removed

Now back to MMA talk. If there's nothing relevant to discuss about McGregor then the solution is simple - don't post here

EDIT - within 20 minutes of reopening this thread I have carded and deleted 3 posts for ignoring mod instructions. Please heed the warnings
