Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Ooops. guess that is aimed at me given I asked the question about cutting the grass in the mornings in the first place!

Lot of worse type of people including those trying to sneer at others.

My Mam is going stir crazy too.....stuck in that house for weeks now worrying about the aul fella in the home with Dementia and the COVID.

Along with the Ireland's own she loves the aul Aldi magazine - highlight of the week and can't wait to be allowed back out to get to all those goodies in the middle aisle.

I'm partial to a bit of the Aldi mag myself. Might pick up a few bits for the garden, for when I'm cutting the grass early morning next time.

It wasn’t aimed at you. I don’t even know who you are tbh.

Didn't think you knew me - you just made a sweeping generalisation about people (trying to be funny/ condescending?) based on the fact they cut their grass in the mornings!

As I asked the question, I could just be one of those "type of people".

As I said, could be a lot lot worse.

Anytime before midday is normally too wet to cut.

    That is a fair point.

I personally witnessed that same poster be particularly nasty to another poster recently, so I am pointing out there are worse types of people than those reading the Aldi catalogue.

Do you cut your own lawn?

If so, what time is acceptable?

I find at 4am its a great release after coming back to my pad after a rave and after party and coming down off crystal meth.
You would imagine the neighbours complained but not after the first few times when the Regional Response Unit were called out. We had a bit of a discussion, ended in a stand off, me brandishing a sawn off shotgun, harpoon gun (for taking down the helicopter) napalm and some improvised firebombs.

Yeah after that happened twice .... it sort of calmed down and no one complained about the mowing. Just the Judge asked me why there were so many goats on the property.

I am sorry for the tardiness in my reply. I decided to celebrate Star Wars Day last night and thought it was appropriate to give a lawn a light trim.
From what I recall from the flashbacks it was like "Danger Close" and "Anthropoid" with a Sepultura soundtrack. I was awoken this morning in my favourite cell by a nice guard with a full Irish and a meeting with my three lawyers. All charges were dropped due to none of the neighbours wished to complain and a generous donation to the Garda Pension Fund.

I am currently on my way home to feed my goats.

Would that work for “trimming“ down a neckbeard? Yours sounds like it’s filling out a bit.

Was going to cut it this evening but neighbours out having drinks, so will leave it till tomorrow.

Would it annoy you if neighbours cut grass at say 10am?

As a hay fever sufferer, I would say December

Are you doing anything the weekend? Like if you are not doing anything specific and you are like not cutting the grass?
You could drop around to mine and the Missus. We just got a new dungeon and we are trying to work out the final kinks..... A third eye is always useful. What do you say ? BYOB

I used to cut grass for a living. In Ireland most days the grass is too wet before about 11 am to cut efficiently. You do get days when its dry from earlier on but they are the exception rather than the rule. To get a job done you sometimes have to start when the grass is still wet but you really notice how much easier the job becomes as the grass dries up.

As someone who had the responsibility of cutting the grass of a large garden for 30 years I always waited til late in the afternoon but before dew started to settle, you want the grass to be as dry as possible. Trying to cut damp/wet grass only doubles your workload. I have a neighbour who insist on cutting his grass at 8.00 in the morning (or earlier) and the engine cuts out every few minutes, you'd think he'd learn.
Rather than being annoyed at him cutting so early, I take great pleasure in hearing the engine cut out, the guy is such a crank.

Flipping thing growing like mad at the moment!

One of the pitfalls of having a terrace house as well is having to drag the grass through the house.

I'd get the garden paved completely only for it would be difficult for access.

Why weekends? I cut it whenever it's needed when there's sun out. Not all weekends are dry, ye know.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,037 ✭✭✭tabby aspreme

Don't be too hard on the Belgian's, in Germany you can only cut grass from 9-5 Mon-Fri, and 9-1 on a Saturday.
For me personally if I was outside having a few drink's it would depend on which neighbor was making the racket

I was asking about weekends as I'm too busy to cut at weekends. If weekend is wet well, just have to wait for a dry one.

It would be gone strong with another week.thats alright for a small garden not alright for a big one.
Hardship for man and machine.easier cut it when you get the chance

Have you considered napalming it? Throw a few tyres on it? Maybe even put a stack of pallets on the lawn?

Ahhh, life is too short to be cutting grass and weeding. Rather get someone to do it once a month, then I can do the most important bit; water a few plants and sit out and enjoy it.

How much would a lawn cost to get cut where you are ?
I cut it myself but cant say i love it, normally be in the evening or saturday, id never cut a lawn on sunday been old school day of rest type.

Not really sure. Want to get someone to come once a month and do maintenance, like edging beds, weeding, and whatever needs to be done. Half day a month would do it. €80?

I waited til all the dandelions were turned into puffballs and then cut it - to help the bees and stace off imminent starvation due to hunger games extinction of pollinators.

I think after 12 or so works well ( dew depending) but for optimal enjoyment wait until
you have had your lunch outside and a few delicious beers in the quiet of
your mown garden as mowing always triggers a frenzy of copycat mowing which will ruin your headspace if you havn’t already enjoyed the fruits of your labour in peace and solitude.

    2pm is plenty good!

Once I start on the cans then I’m on it for the day and nothing will get mowed.

You won't get away with once a month for grass if you want the garden to look well. Once a week from now until October unfortunately.

Was thinking to get someone to do the main cut and the weeding once a month, then I can just run the mower over it every 2nd week or so. I usually let it go for about a month and its a fcker of a job.
