Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I gave up on getting Spotify working a while back. There is a workaround to get the premium version which involves purchasing it through an ebay user based in the UK (or just get a friend in the UK to do it)

Has anyone here tried Grooveshark. Just got a VIP copy today and it seems to be about as good as Spotify as far as I can see. The VIP subscription is only $3 per month or $30 if you sign up for the full year (compared to £9.99 per month for Spotify premium). This also entitles you to the Grooveshark mobile app and ad-free service. Seems pretty good to me and I haven't had any issues yet. Maybe the music library is smaller than spotify.com, I'm not sure. Would definitely recommend trying it though :)

Just looking at it now. Looks interesting. I wonder if they'll start region blocking in the future?

Debit card from a Credit Union works via paypal, that was only 2 months ago and Ive never had any issues!

Cheers friendface for the heads up on GrooveShark. Looks good so far. Was paid up member of Lastfm till this morning, then they went and removed the ability to play your loved tracks and playlists. Another case of the media mafia shooting themselves in the foot. They have driven me from a service I was paying for to one as far I can tell I don't have to.

Wow, I had a 1 month subscription to last.fm, without being able to play your loved tracks, it will be 100% crap as opposed to 90% before that.

I signed up to Spotify free on a UK proxy I have and loved it so much, I bought a 1 month unlimited account on Ebay for $12. Worth every cent. I can't see myself downloading much music anymore and I have a what.cd account. It's that good.

On Last.Fm have you tried the free Chrome last.fm extension? I have started using that and finding it excellent, it is playing every single song, and my full playlist - very handy!

Just signed up to Spotify via a UK proxy address, thanks for the advice on here, very handy!

Apologies for the bump, but thought it was worth mentioning here rather in a new thread. Lucozade are currently doing an offer where you can win a Premium subscription to Spotify. Interestingly, it says on the bottle that Spotify isn't open to Irish customers, but Lucozade will give you exclusive access to Irish customers if you win. At the moment Tesco are doing a BOGOF with 750ml bottles so double your chances :D

Wow, lucky Paddy if he wins the competition eh? It's crap like this that makes me sympathize with all the people I know here who pirate their digital media.

Ireland's a small market, of course Spotify's focus at the moment is going to be breaking into the US. It's not as if we don't have alternatives to Spotify, We7 offer a great service along with Eircom Hub, iTunes, 7Digital, HMV Digital etc. The music service is far from perfect here in Ireland, but lack of service isn't the main cause of Pirating in Ireland.

Very frustrating but, with a small population, Ireland is the last on the list to get these new services.

Not comparable in any shape or form.

There are other legalities entailed with selling electronic goods in Ireland.

There are other legalities entailed with selling electronic goods in Ireland.

None that involve literally hundreds of record labels. Some no longer active but still holding the rights. Its a poor comparison.

Selling electrical goods in Ireland, very few legalities that aren't standard across europe, can't think of any that are restricted to just Ireland.

I've read through this thread and tried setting up an account via proxy but it doesn't work.

I'm looking to get a premium account. I've family in the UK. If I get them to set me up an account does that mean I can use it over here without any problems? I'm aiming to use it at home, on the phone and via a internet radio (has a spotify app on it)

You'll have to get them to handle the payments for the premium account as it blocks irish credit cards and paypal accounts.
I had to get a friend in the UK to link her paypal account to my spotify then I would send the money from my account to hers once a month.

    A bit messy.

I don't think so. I can't see an option on the subscription page.

As far as i'm aware you can only use Spotify outside the UK for 2 weeks. You would need to get someone in the UK to log into your account at least once every two weeks in order to keep your account active in ireland.

I set up a free account in the UK doing this, but i got bored of having to keep asking my mate in London to log into my account to activate it every two weeks.

I don't see why we can't just set up a premium account in ireland, I'm willing to pay for the service & they won't provide it.

spotify WORKS on a UK proxy, i've done it loads of times, every 2 weeks just login with my UK VPN and then logout and I get another 2 weeks. but it's a bit of hassle. i was paying someguy on ebay for premium for 3 months, it never checks your IP then, well worth the cash.

Get someone to send you an invite and upgrade instantly and you should have no problems.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,828 ✭✭✭unklerosco

Anyone on here have any invites? I've tried to sign up using a proxy via facebook but just cant get it to work..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,778 ✭✭✭dmcg90

So is there ANY way to buy a premium account? Honestly, you'd think they encourage piracy! Irish card, ip, no access to a mate in the UK.

Would buying a spotify code work?

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 11,373 Mod ✭✭✭✭lordgoat

Just request a spotify account from them, via a ukproxy then set it up and pay for hthe premium account. I'm red'd as an international user have no issues, monthly sub.

Ask them on twitter what you can do, they replied to me within days when i had an issue.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,321 ✭✭✭sham69

Anyone need an invite let me know?

I bought my premium sub by registering my credit card on paypal.co.uk and pay by paypal every month.
    No problems at all.
I use the app on my iphone and use the app on my mac at home and don't need any vpn whatsoever.
I got the iphone app by going to the UK app store and downloading from there for free.

If anyone needs any help with any of this let me know and I'll try to help.
    Sham.

    Just came across this.

Looks like Spotify and other sites are in trouble.

Over 200 record labels will have their releases removed from Spotify and other music streaming services like Napster, after distributor STHoldings announced it would be pulling its content from these online services. The concern is that these streaming services "cannibalise the revenues of more traditional digital services" (via The Wire).

STHoldings are responsible for the distribution of 238 labels. Of those 238, only four have expressed a wish to remain on Spotify, Simfy, Rdio and Napster.

    In a statement STHoldings wrote:

"As a distributor we have to do what is best for our labels. The majority of which do not want their music on such services because of the poor revenues and the detrimental affect on sales."

"Add to that the feeling that their music loses its specialness by its exploitation as a low value/free commodity. Quoting one of our labels "Let’s keep the music special, **** Spotify."

A recent study appeared to find that streaming services like this had a negative effect on music sales, and Spotify themselves also responded to the study, claiming otherwise.

Edit: Seems the distribution company specialises in electronic music record labels. Don't see too many big name labels there.

More whinging from the music industry. They signed the deals and now aren't happy their slice isn't big enough. No sympathy tbh.

Granted i would like artists to get more from a play on Spotify than they currently do.

tried to do it through a UK paypal account (which i transferred money to from my irish paypal account) but it needed a uk registered credit card to verify the account when i went to buy Spotify Premium

that was in the summer though, so maybe things have changed since then...

I had a free account and just signed up for a premium one, never had any issues, i forgot my password and had to get it changed using my cred card details and again they had no issue doing so.

I'll have a look around tomorrow and see what i can find. Best streaming service out there imo

    Hey all.
Started using http://www.unblock-us.com/?v=2 (which is ace) so I can finally get Spotify.

It now registers me as being in America, but it won't let me sign for the Premium package because my credit card and paypal are not registered as being American.

Question, if I sign for a new Paypal account with, say, my girlfriend's card, can I set it up from the beginning as being a "UK card", or will the system recognise it as being issued in Ireland?

Alternatively, could I get a UK virtual visa card that I could top up from my Irish account?

    Cheer for any answers!

It will still recognise the card as an Irish one. The only way I was able to pay for it was by using a UK Friend's paypal account. I was afraid to keep using it though in case I forgot to send the money some month.

Gah, you'd think they'd make it easier for us to GIVE them money, wouldn't you?!

Would really love to get spotify.

Am I right in saying I can sign up to a free account using unblockus but need a UK credit card or paypal account in order to buy premium?

Also, do I only need unblockus for the signup or do I need to continue using it every-time I access spotify? Really want to get it on my phone...

I used blackvpn to create a uk paypal account. Then I registered my irish cc with that account, then I use the paypal account to buy a spotify gift voucher on their site.

I created a spotify account while using the vpn, use the voucher to get the premium access and thats what I do... I do it every 3 months or so. You need to log into the site via the uk vpn in order to get the gift cards... Thats what I've found, no idea if unblock us will work with it...

I've no idea what vpn is. Technically, could you buy vouchers for someone else? (if they paypal'd you the funds in advance...)

[edit] If I'm using a US proxy to access, could I use a Norwegian card/paypal account to pay or do the countries have to match?
